I agree, Messi cannot be copied and there are players with the similar skill and style, eg. Naymar. This doesn't mean anything though. People are saying that Ronaldo doesn't get "the job done". I'm sure he does, he scores goals very, very often.. and to be honest..he works for them himself. He doesn't have Xavi to help.

The most important change for skilled player was the ban on the tackle form behind. George Best was at times assaulted on the pitch by defenders, Pele, Garrincha etc also had to take on tackling Messi never sees when playing with heavy footballs on inferior pitches. I think Messi is wonderful but laugh at Pele? Come on.

It isa commonplace to assume modern sport is faster stronger etc. It is but only by marginal amounts and soccer is ultimately skill based. Messi has great skill....as id the best of the best in the past all of whom were natural street footballers.
