  • God I love this song! This song just pulls me into it and takes me to my special music place, where I am just feeling it!

  • what a great song

  • Memories of actual music, not that there isn't anything out dececnt now...but it's the exception. When Justin bieber is a " sensation", you know shit's out of control.

  • absolutely love this songgggg... greatness.. I miss this era so much!!! <3

  • greatest song ever written!

  • Can we please stop commenting on who sings it better? It has absolutely nothing to do with this song or why Pearl Jam plays it live. By singing this song, they are honoring Andy and keeping his presence alive. I really doubt Eddie's attitude was ever "I can top this shit". Just because you are able to leave a comment, it doesn't mean you should, so I will shut up now.

  • I cannot listen to this... Just by thinking of this song, it's entrance... I'm trembling, my breath is getting faster, and i'm afraid i'll die of emotions.

  • The good news for everyone here is that you are ALL wrong :) it doesn't matter who sings it better, they both suck lol

  • Happy birthday Love Child :) RIP

  • eddie's voice is better than this, lmfao ya if ya fuking tone deaf! : )

  • Epic-track indeed and R.I.P. mr. "Andrew Wood"

  • great emotional rock tune...dont know what grunge is.....sounds like a fungus or a sludge of sorts...now i know theres a million sub genres these days...but "grunge" really? that doesnt sound like a full description of what the so called "grungre"bands were....alice in chains was dark.. evil...heroin induced rock...soundgarden was very inspired by sabbath...pearl jam clearly loved neil young and the who...the melvins clearly loved their sabbath...fuck grunge.

  • I didn't realize this was also in "Say Anything" . Greatness!

  • Didn't expect to like this song, but as soon as he started singing, i got goosebumps and a shiver ran down my spine.

  • Hard to find a better song than this!

  • Kurt,Layne,Andy we miss you.

  • This is one of the best song's created! Brings me back to my college years. The movie, "Singles" was also a great one of the time! Grunge kicked ass as far as I am concerned!

  • It really is beautiful. Real shame what happened, he had pure talent

  • IDC if you think Justin Beiber is a better singer etc. but don't comeent about it! Besides why are you listening to it if you like that ... other.. kind of what this generation thinks is music?

  • But does it really mattehhaaa

  • rip shane mcconkey

  • Which singer is better? STFU idiot, who cares. MLB was around before pearl jam, and they had some excellent tunes and a tragic end that affected so many people like Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell / Soundgarden and others. And you waste a post because you are obviously so unaware of the Singer's lineage to other bands. They are both good singers but this is a stupid discussion related to a brilliant song. Do your homework before you post.

  • everytime i am wasted i go here and jam to this. i love it

  • @TheCamaro377 It makes me cry, and wonder why I'm fucked up... but it never helps. It's just a reminder of the shit I went through.. makes it worse, and better at the same time. WTF

  • Not an expert , but I think Eddie Vedder benefited from better production values than Andy did on this EP, which was probably self produced . Never the less , we were deprived of a fine talent that was just forming . It makes you wonder what Pearl Jam would sound like now if Andy were still here .

  • very well..... good words! i still like this song!

  • Return Please Return the Grunge Please...

Pearl Jam!! Return !! please I miss you ... Ten (album)

    Return Cobain Please!

    Alice! please Return!!!!! :(

  • @OficialDperfecto hey, so you wont the stuff on my page..but my band is a local seattle grunge band that has played in many places. check us out! i really hope this isnt marked as spam, :/

because i only say this because of your comment. thank you:)

    facebook/carpediemsband

  • @OficialDperfecto You have not heard Alice in Chains new album? It is called Black Gives way to Blue and is up there with their other albums.

  • this song still makes me cry,, just like me, only beautiful

  • I respect MLB but Eddie´s voice is a zillion times better!

  • @cnpinheiroful I respectfully disagree. I think Eddie has one of the greatest voices of all time, but I don't think he's better than Andy. Eddie has a completely deep voice, which is beautiful and works very well in its own way. It's definitely great. But, Andy has a beautiful and haunting voice which I most certainly would have to say is better in my book. It's all opinion though.

But, although Eddie covers it well, I don't think he can touch Andy on this song.

  • @TheLyricsLegend

Chris Cornell was recently on the Howard Stern show. At one point while going over Cornell's history, the conversation got to Andrew Wood. It was really interesting to hear what Chris said about Andy. It sort of echoes your comment here. I read the Pearl Jam biography "Five against One" which starts off with the history of MLB and Andy, but I still can never get enough of learning about all these guys. I can send you the interview link if you like.

    Peace

  • @WMsandKFCisBackMOFOs can i get the link?

  • @TheLyricsLegend It really is a waste of time to say one singer is better than another. Like you said, it is all opinion, and it should be left at that. Music is subjective and visceral. It can't be measured and compared. You can find an extensively trained singer who has a pitch perfect voice and extraordinary range, but you don't feel the emotion in his voice or resonate with his style and timbre, then you won't care about him as an artist. And since we're all different, this is all relative.

  • @jazzhart25 I completely agree. More people need to think of it that way. If everyone had that pitch perfect voice, it wouldn't be interesting and there would certainly be a lack of emotions. I'm just glad to have some much diversity in music.

  • @TheLyricsLegend True that bro. I remember seeing Mother Love Bone perform this live. Insane. Certain voices you hear, and they fit the song like a great pair of jeans. He was born to sing this song.

  • Comment removed

  • @cnpinheiroful Keep in mind, Andy died at a very early age, before he had an opportunity to grow and improve as an artist.

  • @cnpinheiroful You are a FOOL. You haven't a single musical sense in your brain!

  • @cnpinheiroful Not on this one

  • @cnpinheiroful There is no way Eddie sings this song better than Andy. I so agree with the last post, Andy has a beautiful and haunting voice. Eddie, in no way, comes close to touching Andy on this awesome song :)

  • @cnpinheiroful hmmm i don't know about that one but I do like them both

  • @cnpinheiroful vedder ?

  • Pearl Jam did a live cover of this song and Eddie Vedder butchers it badly.

What's worse is that the Pearl Jam live crap version gets radio airplay up here in Seattle, while this original track doesn't.

How much more pathetic can mainstream radio get???

  • @CBScares I agree 100%. Which is why I listen to KEXP most of the time. The Eddie Vedder version of this song sucks big time!

  • 10 people dont know real music RIP Andrew Wood.

  • this song is timeless!

  • Who in god's name dislikes this? Amaaazing.... and I like PJ's version, too.

  • NOBODY COULD DO IT LIKE ANDY MAN (H)

  • this song brings me back to a time when i could not commit and had to be with others that could not as well. sex, drugs and running from anything that resembled anything possibly real...underneath all the bullshit that leaves, there is sometimes someone really beautiful underneath all the ugliness of a life that beats you down like that

  • @vig90 ......... wow. You took the words right out of my heart/mind/soul every time I hear this song... very impressed, very real... I feel you. Completely. Thanks for one of thee most heartfelt comments I've come across here. much <3

  • My God,,!! I have not heard this song in YEARS !!! Thank you,,,,Thank you,,!!! Took me back to,,,aahhhhh,,90,,91'!! Forgot how awesome they are,!! Love-Em,!!!!!!!

  • my name is chloe and my daddy played me this song when i was younger :)

  • What does "Don't burn your bridges, woman" mean. I heard it a few times before, but I don't know what it means.

  • @tjittosz The term means don't ruin your relationship with anybody because you might need them someday or they might play a part in your life later on. So be on the best terms you can be and always treat people good.

    That's basically what it means.

In the song, Andy says: "Don't burn your bridges, woman, cause someday... yeah"

Andy's saying don't forget or ruin your relationships cause someday you'll need that person.

  • @TheLyricsLegend Thanks! Like MrDannypyle said, you could not have said it better. Thanks a lot!

  • @TheLyricsLegend To burn your bridges means you've gone a step too far one too many times.

  • @Psychoholicable It can mean many things depending on how someone uses it. In this song, and as far as the classical term goes, it's as I described in my other comment.

  • lyricslegend could not have said that better and for the song maybe one of there best i could listen to andy sing all day he was so good to bad we lost him so early

  • @tjittosz you might need them to return...(dont disrespect people on the way up....you might need them on the way down)

  • "and this is my kinda love

it's the kind that moves on

it's the kind that leaves me alone

    yes it does"...

  • its always a tragedy when a great musician can't or won't beat his demons....musicians love their vices

my generation alone lost greats like the a fore mentioned Andy Wood, but others as well.....like Staley, Cobain, Hoon to name a few...the world is a sadder place without them....and I think Woods might actually top that list

  • grew up in Seattle, when this was still underground.....this is a part of me....I'm 40 now...and nothing has come close to touching my spirit like the music and style of the early 90's

my kids will never appreciate what this music does for me.....and nothing, not even my own music will ever come close to this...its a psychedelic state man

  • "say life is what you make it// And if you make it death then rest your soul away"

    R.I.P Andrew

  • Time to dig out Temple of the Dog. Who am I kidding, it was never off my stereo. I live for this.

  • Repeat, Repeat, Repeat!

  • Pearl Jam covered this last night what a pleasant surprise :D

  • @Pheroine13 Pearl Jam is Mother Love Bone with a different singer.... MLB's singer died and the rest of the band created Pearl Jam with a new singer.

  • @dandee32 Yeah I know..I was just happy that PJ covered it...wow

  • @dandee32 well jeff ament and stone gossard were in MLB

but mike mccreedy and matt cameron are new additions, as well of course is eddie vedder and the other drummers before cameron came back

  • @dandee32 Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament are the only people that were in MLB that formed PJ.

  • Been Rockin' this from the get go!!!!!!!.. Fucking EPIC!.. Plain and simple...

  • I just heard the Pearl Jam cover today for the first time...I suddenly feel heartsick for my youth and of course for Mr. Wood. Mmmm What could of been. Now is time for Temple of the Dog.

  • Andrew Wood live forever in my heart & ears!!!

  • The ability to turn pain into beauty is what keeps us moving on. Keep rocking, broken heart!

  • the song is so beautiful...most underrated band in world!!!

  • was this song in a movie?

  • @fossilbox1991 Yup its on the Soundtrack for the singles Movie( from 1992)

  • For all you people that eddie vedder didnt have ths right to sing this song. Are you stupid? If I wasnt for pearl jam two of mother love bones members wouldnt have achieved there dream. I think eddie played that song as much for jeff and stone as he did for Andy.

  • My Friend told me about this song. But I don't care anymore.

  • super fucking underrated band.

  • im named after this song:)

  • i cried 4 no reason

  • rip Andy

  • Crown of Thorns is mainly about Andy's addiction to heroin and alcohol and how it screwed up his relationship with Xana.

  • Unfortunately this song is not only about lost love but mainly about drugs. Andy was a good guy with a bad problem. RIP

  • try some old school sublime, plenty of songs about bitch ass ho's

  • Good morning ladies

  • Can you believe Ed V. TRYING to sing one of Andrews deepest songs?! I know it's a tribute, but fck him!!! My man Andrew is the only one that can do it baby.

  • @jczother Yeah i completely agree i just had a dispute with another guy over this issue, the song is immortal

  • @jczother fuck you you dont know shit

  • There were TWO albums...Apple was the first one, delayed in it's release because of the loss of the great Andrew Wood (R.I.P)

This track is actually on the second album, combining Chloe Dancer & Crown Of Thorns into one track instead of two different songs

  • ill never forget the time spent layin by her side

  • Best ending to a song ever!!

  • My Chloe doesn't love me anymore

  • he who rides the pony must someday fall.....if u make it death then rest ur soul. rest in peace andrew.

  • oh man talk about a waste of talent. they were so good, andrew wood was so talented. one bad decision and its over. i love this song but its so sad to because of the pain in his voice and knowing how he died.

  • they dont make them like this no more

  • 1992. Combat boots, ripped jeans, anything flannel. Nine Inch nails, MLB, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jams 10 on the cd player on constant repeat. Seeing a good "live" band in a club, You could feel the heartbeat of a generation. Smoking cigarettes until 4 in the morning, cheese fires with gravy. Woodstock. Red hot chili peppers, Stone temple pilots. Music was everything. Nothing has compared since

  • @LittleBlackDress06 That sounds fun! too bad I missed all of that fun because i was born in 1996:( My Generation is screwed! evrybodys all worried how they look and listen to crap music Blah!

  • @LittleBlackDress06 - well spoken. Indeed.

  • @LittleBlackDress06 and Soundgarden??? wtf dude!

  • @MikeWtf of course!

  • @LittleBlackDress06 man u said it all right there. nothing like then

  • @LittleBlackDress06

There are no words to describe how much I agree with you.

  • @LittleBlackDress06 i cant help but agree, and thats coming from somebody born in 92!

  • @LittleBlackDress06

You lost me at red hot chili peppers. stupid lisping keetus blows.

  • @Lamborghini652 Ahaha wow STP? Really? Another follower who just assumes that Nirvana had no musical talent because some idiot said it somewhere.

All the bands from the Seattle scene are great, I think that's something we can all agree on

  • great band! love them... they took glam rock a step further and into the 90's

  • To bad the singer kicked off before his time. There probably been more good music from him if he lived to make a second or third album.

  • i pretty sure mother love bone came before nirvana. and none of them liked the label of grunge.

  • Great song, but I have to point out a typo: it's "Chloe DANCED the tables in the French Quarter..." not "does". Thanks for posting!!

  • 5 people were tied to the cielin

  • This is probably my biggest inspiration out there. I'm 14, and trying to make music of my own, and I really love Mother Love Bone style grunge.

  • @AlkhaniStudios I'm 15. Glad to know there are still people at our age who are aware of the existence of he somewhat unknown bands from a era gone by.

  • @AlkhaniStudios Kurt Cobain is actually quite well known among most of the people I know. It's more about other singers such as Layne Staley, Shannon Hoon and Andrew Wood.

  • Listen to Iron maiden's Prodigal son. It's very similar.

  • What a masterpiece of a song! U can feel all the emotions of everyone in that song. Great lyrics! Not like that bullshit commercial stuff we get nowadays.

"I want to tell u that a i love, but does it really matter. I will never forget the time spent laying by your side.. " :(

  • I fuckin' love that song. Every time I hear it I get get a cold feeling running down my back. Never before and never after hearing this I heard a song of such intensity and I have heard a lot of songs. It's one of my top 5 songs ever.

  • This is great Seattle history here. R.I.P Andrew Wood

  • This is great Seattle history here. R.I.P Andrew Woods

  • This? Good!

    Nirvana? Baaaaad!

  • @Teimaninja nirvana good mother love bone good

  • @buttitcher you'r wrong my friend

Nirvana dont know how to play guitar.

all thier songs are "i hate myself and i want to die"

    kurt cobain cant sing.

    and ugh... what more?

"i swear that i dont have a gun"

    i guess he did have?

  • @Teimaninja thats because Nirvana was leaned more to punk rock like Mudhoney. they're both great bands

  • @Teimaninja They sure as hell could play guitar. Which songs are ''i hate myself and want to die''? And Kurt Cobain was an awesome singer, I would suggest that perhaps you're tonedeaf but apparently you have some musical taste.

  • @Teimaninja Nirvana started the grunge movement fella, i would like to hear u play guitar if u think nirvana can't and u must have a damn good singing voice to be able to talk shit and critcize other singers this isn't even about cobain, it's mother love bone. just fuck off.

  • @1i1okey nirvana didnt start the grunge you fool, have you heard about Green River? , Pearl Jam? Alice in Chains, these are real grunge bands cocksucker, another kurt cockbain fan... and yea, i sing since im 12, and i used to play guitar before i joined the army.

  • @Teimaninja u must not have read that right, yes there was grunge before nirvana, but it wasn't as popular until nirvana.

  • @Teimaninja

Lol ya all the bands u mentioned are incredible!

and yes i do think nirvanna got most of the credit, and it was unfair, but nirvana is still fuckin awsome!

And this is comming from a girl whose favourite grunge band is AIC, all the way!

dnt hate on nirvana though ,they were a great band:)

  • @xluxuryxsparks Nirvana got the most credit because at the time more people were into their style, first that Punk/Grunge style and some years later a "lighter" style (sorry, bad english) but still, Alice in Chains, Silverchair, Mother love bone, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, all of those great grunge bands had thousands or even millions of fans all over the world

i myself like Nirvana the best because its my favourite band, but still i love all those other grunge bands x)

  • YEAH ALL YOU PEOPLE THINK THAT GRUNGE CAME FROM F-ING PEAL JAM AND OOPS I PULLED THE TRIGGER BUM...... THINK AGAIN...... MOTHER LOVE BONE IS THE FOUNDERS OF WHAT NOW IS CALLED GRUNGE... AND THE WOODMAN IS JUST A SMILING DOWN..HE GOT HIS TOUR BUS UP THERE... AND HE'S FILLING ARENAS 20 TIMES OUR SIZES DOWN ON THIS F-ED UP PLANET R.I.P BROTHER

  • @OZZY19689 MLB was the predecessor to Temple of the Dog which was the predecessor to Pearl Jam. Even though Eddie Vedder wasn't an official member of MLB he was a friend of the band and often played with them especially after Andy Wood died...so in a sense the "people" that "think that grunge came from f-ing peal jam" are f-ing right

  • i've been in love with this beautiful girl for almost 5 years, and i have a feeling she feels the same. but we've never been single at the same time. for instance right now. im single, and she's not. and im not going to let her know how i feel, for i wouldnt want to ruin their relationship. but for now, i'll settle for the same position i've been in for the past 5 years, as her loyal, trusting, love stricken best friend

  • fuck love it doesn't exist, only mlb, aic, pearl jam, nirvana, screaming trees, mad season and death exist

  • @TRKTKO Amen to that! or whatever

  • @fred2566

Ok Only Love For Music Exist

  • After 20 years together and splitting with my high school sweetheart, this song means more than it ever did before. One of the best songs EVER! I can't begin to tell you the utter pain this has caused. Glad to pull this song up again....

  • i love andrew wood and mother love bone and all always......always <3

  • Man, it's great to realise that there are still people listening to this. It has been ages.. even have a rough demo version of this song, in which Andy is still searchig for his singingmelody. Great result..great album, fucked up end of a band..

  • r.i.p

  • andrew wood: the real face of grunge. step aside kurt cobain.

  • BABY BABY BABY I SAID BABY BABY OH BABY YEAH

  • They would have been the forerunners in the grunge explosion but Andy lost the battle of addiction early. Kurt and Layne reached great heights before they succumbed to addiction.

it motivates me to stay clean, nothing glorious dying a junkie, its a fuckin tragedy

  • RIP Andy , beutiful song

  • All you people...with "theories".... I lived the late 80s in Pioneer Square in Seattle.... the "birth" of "Grunge".... eff that word..... was an amazing time.

And Eddie made a tape in Sand Diego and Jeff Ament heard him and he came up and it's that's simple.

  • RIP Andrew, never forgotten.....He who rode the pony!!!

  • March 19 2001 - we still love you and your songs. long gone but never forgotten!

  • I always found Andy Wood and Mother Love Bones story much more interesting and tragic than Kurt Cobain and Nirvanas. 21 years gone today. RIP Andy.

  • @FaithIsAnnoyed you said it! <3

  • March 19, 1990 - 21 years ago today, we lost Andrew Wood. RIP Andy - we still remember you! <3

  • the 4 thumbs down should have their asses beat

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • WoWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

  • I'm in love with this girl and she don't love me back so I just play this song over and over and cry...... I love MLB and AIC, they are the only thing I've got in this frail pathetic life!

  • @cfad178 "woman.. cant live with em pass the beer nuts'' (norm from cheers) look bro we all get hung up on that one girl who dont feel the way we do so you can either feel sorry for yourself or go for that wild crazy shit that sweeps her off her feet! you only fail if you dont try! you want too know whats pathetic im an orioles and raiders fan thats pathetic! lol

  • @cfad178 Let me tell you something, brother; I am right with you there. This has always been my song to listen to for love troubles. I relate to it so much. I just got out of the best relationship ever a few weeks ago. This song helps me through it. It's beautiful. Just keep your head high, man, and know that others are right there with you. The future will hold something for you. Andy says it himself: "Dreams like this must die..."

Just let Andy guide you through your troubles; he helped me.

  • @TheLyricsLegend indeed my man... thank you for your positivity. lotta love in that support there.

  • @TheLyricsLegend Wauw, i just can't help writing here as well... Unfortunately i can relate to that as well... My girlfriend dumped me, months ago, with no other explanation than "i just don't love you anymore"... Still haven't recovered from that (if i even CAN recover)... This song is a great help for me as well...

  • @cfad178 it's not that bad, man. We've all been there. It gets better.

  • @cfad178

much love bro - you ain't alone friend..

  • @cfad178 ive felt the same way man, its hard to imagine but life will get better, keep rockin

  • @cfad178

    U and me both

  • @cfad178 Duuuuuuuuuuuuude, chin up. Life goes on. And on. And on and on. Things come and go. Things change. It's what makes life interesting. Look at it like this; you know about duality, yeh? There's no heat without cold, no light without darkness, no happiness without sadness. The levels each of these reach is dependent on how far either one goes.. by that i mean, you only feel so bad because you know the opposite extreme of super happiness. And you'll know it again. And on and on it goes.

  • @cfad178 grow a sack you pussy. Seriously dude.

  • @cfad178 im with u dude...i could sit and play this song and just cry my little eyes out.

  • @cfad178 k

  • @cfad178 k

  • @cfad178 If they're all you've got, you're doing amazing. I have been in love with somebody who didn't love me back. That person doesn't matter anymore. I found better.

  • @cfad178 You know it's funny... This song is NOT about the pain of unrequited love, but about moving on. It's like a crown of thorns, he says, that past love. But does it really matter? In the end, it's all who you know. It's the kind of love that leaves ME alone. Meaning you gotta let somebody love YOU (see: DESPERADO by The Eagles) before you can love anyone else. I think. Then again, it's just a song. :)

  • @cfad178 Life sucks i know im only 14 and already know what. I think ive known it ever since I was a young kid. But if that girl doesnt Love you then screw her! I spent m y time in the 7th grad chasing after some dude who didnt love me back. I was down for a while but then i realized screw him. The only reason he didnt like me anymore because he built a big disgusting ego. he went from a nice likable person to a rude, jerk, that puts people down and enjoys doing it. Mlb and AIC RULE!

  • @cfad178 dude i used to listen to this song back when i was in high school...and i know exactly what u mean man....it hurts right?...all i can say is that it'll be better with time...

  • @cfad178 dude your fuckin cool with me

  • lets go to Seattle
