  • I love the R3! I would be more thankful if it had 61 keys!

  • haha

  • The song is The Model from Kraftwerk.

  • im cosidering getting one of these. even though the last four keys on my microkorg stopped working for no reason. but this will be my last korg if it happens again. i also wish korg and yamaha would stop filling these synths up with those damn trance sounds. they suck and all sound the same. more synthbasses and leads for r&b and funk would be better. trance sounds and banks make me not want to buy any synth. what a waste of space.

  • so umm, how much did it cost?

  • Does the tempo-knob trigger some sort of tempo-readout on 1 of the displays when changing the tempo?

  • korg r3. a.k.a. "the power" from regular show

  • Gearwire always has fucking retarded video titles, like their RC-50 video.

  • 2:12 Chameleon

  • @TheMickB22 i play that with my jazz band hahah I'm on bass lol fun song

  • fucking hell, that's the worst theme song I've ever heard

  • well I got the x-station...for a couple reasons - there were only 2 R3's ive seen for sale on craigslist (I gotta go budget), one guy never responded to me then deleted his post, and the other guy absolutely didnt want to sell his R3 - he only wanted to trade his r3 & microk for a roland sh-201 (?!) I searched for an sh-201 I could afford - none on craigslist - only online for like $600. Some dude gave me a sick deal on the x-station and it works awesome with reason. I WILL get an R3 though!

  • that thing is sick...im about make an offer to a guy on craigslist. I really wanted this x-station 25 i saw on CL but the guy never replied to me even after a second email. This R3 looks pretty sick but having a synth/audio interface/midi controller all in one would be prime time electro with the xstation. But damn theres no vocoder like the R3!! Hard choices here!

  • @fawkthescene666 get the r3 man i am too

  • @Theknightexpress I emailed the guy and told him I wanted it but he never replied to me yet..Im ready to buy, these dudes gotta get with the program! lol

  • @fawkthescene666 just be glad you didnt get the x-station. dont get me wrong, they're cool things, and the concept of having everything built in is awesome, but holy shit, the x-station sounds so digital and thin and basic. If they could put a bit of that good Automap and Ultranova tech into an XS2, then things would be different!

  • @fawkthescene666 Fuck the X-Station. In terms of pure sound, the R3 destroys it. Seriously. R3 is like a dark dirty secret that nobody talks about. It's an absolute animal of a synth.

  • 2:12 MOTHER FUCKING CHAMELEON

  • what kind of midi lead would i need to input this to a computer?

  • At 1:53 he said there's a sample built in. That's the R3's Formant Motion feature.

  • @DefecationSociety this is a synth made for crating your own sound your looking for like a work station

  • this dude sounds like john c reilly

  • 0:08 Kraftwerk! The Model!

  • @DefecationSociety fail dude. If you have to ask that this is not what you are looking for, lol.

  • @DefecationSociety

    NO.NO.

  • blues scale from C <3 love it

  • microsampler vs microsyth... who wins.. I want to pick one up for a hobby, to create hip hop and techno\trance... both are about the same price..

  • @JussBL4ZE: They are not at all the same kind of instrument even though they look kind of similar (I am assuming that when you say Microsynth you are talking about the MicroKorg XL). The MicroKorg is a synthesizer and vocoder - it generates sounds. The Microsampler takes sounds that you load onto it and plays them back via the keyboard or the sequencer. Even though they both use a 37 key mini keyboard, you could think of the Microkorg as a piano and the Mircrosampler as more of a drum machine.

  • In the beginning when vocoding is that "The model" by Kraftwerk?

  • do you need anything other than the synth to use the vocoder?

  • @MrJennion It comes with a goose neck microphone

  • Can you change the octaves on this thing? I'm assuming you can.

  • @Avoryne

    yeah, it has the buttons

  • Sonic cell

  • Chameleon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hmm, going to get a new VA synth before the end of the year and it's between the R3 and the Akai Miniak. Both have excellent sound engines and features.

  • this is pretty badass

  • Most/All Korg Synths knobs are fragile! why not make them sturdy?

  • @Zhorellski the korg EMX-1 knobs are rock solid

  • the chameleon XD

  • i try this in sjop was awesome trance sound

  • I liked the first synth with the arpegiator (i just butchered that spelling) but i wish it didnt have the vocoder sample. Is there any way i can get it without the vocoder sample?

  • Should i buy the Korg r3 or the MicroKorg XL????

  • @ckt510 That what i want to know really which is better?

  • @ckt510.. Have you also looked at the new SH-01 GAIA? it has full sized keys, more octaves, 3 oscillators, and more hands on fun.

  • are the keys any wider than the microkorg and xl?

  • Comment removed

  • So in other words. This is what I should have bought instead of the MicroKorg.......

  • @KaslarProductions i'm begining to think the same thing.

  • which korg synthesizer should i buy when i wanna make perdominant techno, electro, hip hop and RnB songs?

but the price can be at most 800 euro?

    thx for help

  • @mrhartuc

Depends on what you're after. If your world consists of presets, then listen to every example you can get hold of, and choose what you like best. Try them yourself if you can.

If you're a programming beginner, maybe start a bit carefully and go for the R3.

If you can afford a Blofeld Keyboard, you could try the Radias as well.

For building your own sounds, the Blofelds (especially the Keyboard version and the Desktop with samples license) blow the others right out of the water.

  • Blofeld is probably the most affordable pro synth. The rack is cheaper than anything out there. It's just over $500 brand new.Obviously the Radias is a kick ass synth too but I really dont know how it compares to the Blofeld.

  • @niteowlsam Thanks for your thoughts. Mrhartuc is heavily leaning towards Blofeld and Micron/Miniak right now, and has put aside the Korgs. I regularly update him on my findings with both Blofeld Keyboard and Miniak.

He wants shitloads of presets, but seems bright and ambitious, so I proposed to him to discover the joy of building his own sounds, preferably on the Blofeld, though the Micron is no slouch either.

Me, I'd love a Radias, but never instead of a Blofeld, always as an addition.

  • @v8bert u're welcome.I'm thinking about buying a Blofeld just for the heck of it, only thing money doesn't come easily in my life. But still the rack is too tempting with its sleek design and thousand sounds.

  • r3¬!

  • blofeld will blow this.Dont listen to what some people -who are obviously biased to the r3- say. This is like a toy compared to the waldorf. Huh !Some say this is better than the Radias! No kidding. This is modelled after the Radias, how's it going to be better than it?Basically it's made to imitate -in a limited way-what the Radias is.This is like saying a Benz C class is better than an S class.Anyway,I'd take the blofeld any time.

  • OK, maybe that we have very different opinions about SOUND. I do my job since 1976. Blofeld is for the younger audience, i think.

  • UUUHHHHH....TAKE A R3!!!!!! Never the blofeld -it sounds sick and hurts your ears - no joke! The R3 is unbelieveable warm and fat. May be one of the best VA-Synths ever. I sold my blofeld one day after buying, tried the Radias and went back to the R3. This Synth is worth EVERY penny: Cheers Martin

  • @BitSnapper

    ONE day?

So your strong opinion is based on a few presets + few programming hours max.

In real life what you heard is that the Blofeld is very hi-fi in its components plus that is *capable* of very "out-there" sounds.

    So what?

One just builds the sound exactly as warm as one wants to, either from scratch or by quickly tweaking the presets a little (waveforms, filters).

    Blofeld = professional + enormous

    R3 = nice addition

Blofeld for the younger? Bollocks! I'm way older than you.

  • Ohh man...My keyboardist has this. I've spent some time with it and realized that it's a total piece of shit.

Poor, plastic/cheap construction, and totally un-convincing "analog" emulated sounds...awful.

It's only strong point is that it's very light...but so light that you'll break it if not careful.

  • The interface is brilliant, but I can't help but think the sound is lacking something.

  • ive just bought a wavestation yea

  • @liecron ---happy wishes for your new wavestation!

  • how many sounds are there by the way?

  • 3:40 Final Fantasy 7

  • does this have a seperate band for your own sounds??

  • Does this have drum tracks?

  • why does everyone play the same type of music with vocoder synths?

  • @TehKeytar cuz people don't think outside the box .

  • @TehKeytar

same reason why people with electric guitars generally play rock..... its desgned for a specific genre...cheesey as shite though eh?

  • @TehKeytar i usually play jazz...

  • @hongdekong good on ya

  • should i get this? PLEASE REPLY!!!

  • YES. I just bought my R3 on Thursday Oct. 22nd. I actually bought it used on craigslist for $525. Their somewhat rare to find used other then ebay if you can. Give'er

This synth is siiiiiiick. Ive been in my room for hours on end. I was gunning for the microkorg until I came across the mighty R3. Its super responsive, with powerful sounds, light weight, easy to transport. It is seriously more then I bargained for. hope that helps.

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! I'm going to have to wait for christmas because thats alot of money. I will post some videos if i get it.

  • if you put a dif mic on that thing, will you actually be able to understand the words? thats the only thing holding me back!

  • yea you can actually put anything into the xlr jack - doesn't even need to be a mic =]

  • lol $525? Most on ebay are selling for $325!

  • No nont get it, i tryed one out, not many presets and cool synth sounds. for one way better for the same price get the Yahama MM6.

  • LOL.

If you use presets, your full of fail.

    And not a real keyboardist.

  • @drakeishfyre bullshit. ones a ability as a keyboardist has nothing to do with their ability to program sounds into a keyboard. You may want to rethink your definition of what a "real keyboardist". I'm not one but I could show you plenty.

  • @Thatguy301

Fine. Call em a real keyboardist, but never call em a real synth user.

  • @drakeishfyre hehe, fair enough.

  • @drakeishfyre that's just stupid. It's not about whether or not you use presets or not. It's about how the music sounds at the end. What would be the point of Korg or anyone else putting presets on synths if people didn't actually, I don't know, use them?

  • 2:12 Chameleon - Herbie Hancock :)

  • bought an R3 a couple months ago..happier with it I could not be :D

  • whats are the arpeggiator settings for Favorites Bank 1?

  • How many voices at a time can this play? I play on sequencing one with a MPC 2000 xl and I just wanted to know how many synth tracks I can get out of this.

  • it has 2 oscilators so it has 2 main timbres. You can split the keyboard to have 2 tones, so youd be getting 4 on the board at once which you can adjust each indiv. oscilator vol. add some latch or modsequence and you can even get a digital response as a third/fourth voice

  • this or prophecy?

  • well, I'm selling my prophecy on ebay at the moment and buying an r3 tomorrow.

The Prophecy is pretty advanced and for someone like me who don't know what they're doing...well it had to go!! ..Great sounds though. I would say this after playing it in the store - it's amazing and so much fun. If you're a pro though or serious musician, the Prohecy is worth a look (although bear in mind it is monophonic)

  • Take a listen to when he pulls the bass line at 2:22/2:23. Is it just me, or did Cyndi Lauper have that exact type of bass sound in "Into The Nightlife"?

Is my ear for music on target for this one?

  • I knew that sounded familar

  • When he was demonstrating the cutoff that was a chord progression from final fantasy 7 :)

  • I am taking my first step from keyboards to synths and i was planning on buying a microkorg xl. But, soundquality-power-playability over mobility, is the R3 a better choice? I am yet to go to a music store and feel the difference myself.

  • the microkorg xl has a shit keyboard, its for baby hands. i personally think the extra money is way worth it for normal keys on an r3. i just cant play on the microkorg xl or the original microkorg.

  • me either. i have no idea what synth too get for my first synth. and ive been going back n fourth bewteen the r3 and xl but after playing them. i like the xl better but the keys just are shit like you siad.

  • the roland sh-201 is very good for a first synth

it really helps you learn about sound synthesis and is just overall great for beginners

  • well...im sold

  • omg that's cool!

  • sounds awefully like the microkorg.. any key differences here in sound?

  • nevermind. i got the korg. im no keyboard player but the small keyboard can be very limiting but at the same time for me its less intimidating if you know what i mean. recorded some tracks already- lovin the sounds it has. u got the other i take it?

  • this or the korg micro x?

  • why even bother to buy synth if u asking this kind of stupid question ?

    Bottom line:

Find out more about synths and u understand whats wrong with your question..

  • dicknose- 'find out more about synths' - well hence my question you silly shit. I've bought one now and already have made approx 10 tunes. in the music world there's loads of gadgets and equip- sorry i dont know all the details in advance. Idiot.

  • Calm down stupid fuck before i tie u down to your kennel

And if u cant see any difference between micro x and r3 and ur still secure enough to hurl insults - you're one big and pathetic idiot.

  • I'm perfectly calm you ignorant fool. Sorry i studied the differences between every type of instrument around. You sound like one of those technical dick brains who knows the equipment but can produce shit! haha, unlucky mate- i'll request advise elsewehere next time.

  • U dont have to be 'technical dick' to know the difference between micro x and r 3....or u do now? because we still cant establish that...

Micro x is sample based so its not good alternative for r 3 - dont compare different purpose synths .

anyway - go fuck yourself little cunt.

  • Instead of using all that energy to start a lame youtube comment war, you could've just politely stated your own opinion. While they obviously are very different synths, they do have a common purpose, and that is playing music :D

  • Im not polite when somebody calls me "silly shit"

  • woah!

  • what is that bassline he plays; the one at 2:12? I hear it all the time but what song is it?

  • Comment removed

  • It's Chameleon by Herbie Hancock

  • Is it possible to sing through the mic as per normal, and then switch to the vocal effects?

  • I think you'd need a separate mic to sing through. When I saw Anathema live, he had two mics he switched between, one for regular vocals and one for the vocoder

  • hell yeah!!!!!!!

  • nope is not user...

  • sound presented here suck balls i wonder is that limited synth or user...

  • roland sh201 has no vocoder!!!

i bought this for 350€ ^^^it was so cheap heehehe

    and really faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat synthesizer

  • What song is that at 4:15

  • Tocatta en Fugue

  • It sounds great.

  • do you recommend this over a microkorg?

  • Yes, this is a microkorg 'upgrade'

  • the microkorg is ok... i tested this at the store the other day and ordered it online. the microkorg suffers from a few things- shitty menu, bad keys, and 4 voice polyphony- also no usb, which sucks for starters. the microkorg xl fixes (most) of these but its still not as good as the r3. this thing is still more expensive though and much less portable

  • WTF?! This synth has portamento (Glide)?!??!?

    2:34 - 2:43

If it does and it can be applied to all of the patches I might have to buy one immediately!!

  • yes, as do microkorg, micron, ion, etc...

  • haha... mostly all software synths have portamento

  • roland sh 201 does too :)

  • what is the voice from 2:50 to 3:00 sounds awesome, kinda sounds like it has a lil jazz rythm to it

  • It's called "Fusion Lead"

  • wait. the lead sounds are monophonic??

  • well, they can be either. it's programmable, so you can change that and save your patch.

  • ok good.

  • what about "PREC/HIT", is there a snare or a bass kick or a hit hat? cymbals?

  • oh snap! I forgot to look at that.

  • answer me, the "perc/hit" has a snare, a bass kick, and a hi hat or cymbal ? tell me what this have!

  • if i remember correctly, it's a combination of virtual analog kick, toms, and then some house stabs. Again, it's been almost a year since I did this, so i'll have to get my hands on one again.

  • dam the voice from 2:50 -3:00 sounds so beautiful (not gay)

  • i love the chords, they sound great.

  • very reminiscent of early 808 state

  • which has a better synth lead microkorg or korg r3? and which has a better vocoder?

  • R3 is better in every aspects.

  • aLchemistrik is right, but Microkorg is a lot less in price and you still get a great deal of shit to mess around with.

So if you have the money get the R3 or if you're kind of a keyboard noob and don't have a whole lot of money get the microkorg.

  • I'm just starting now to learn how to play keyboards and I want to buy a synth for xmas.

Which one do you recomend? Money is not a problem.

    Please answer.

  • hahahahahaha... well mate. There are so many different kinds of synths, depending on what you to do. If your just starting. Waldorf has just brough a fucking gem man.. Its a desktop synth(means you need to plug a wee midi keyboard into). anyways its called the blofeld, One of my new fav's

  • I was more in doubt between R3 and microkorg... Can you tell me which one is better?

  • Just starting....hmmm....probably Microkorg and if it feels to simple for you go to R3 but there are other synths out there as well.

  • both are different.you cannot compare.

  • the third sound on the C lead is called?

  • what was the third sound on the synth lead called? PLEASE ANSWER!

  • I just want a couple opinions, which do you think is better the micro or R3, I know there are a couple differences such as the synthesis engine, and just wanted to know which is more worth the money.

  • R3 deffinitely

  • Ok thanks a lot, I need some suggestions that are that definite.

  • yeah, its just all around better, pluss it has realy keys

  • What is a good newer synth for old school sounds like new wave??

  • I would not recommend the microkorg unless you are using it strictly for the vocoder. The R3 is amazing. I was going to go with the R3, until I discovered the cheaper Alesis Micron. The Micron is amazing, and I highly recommend comparing it to the r3. keep in mind, it has a vocoder/stereo in as well.

  • yeah, but is it a good vocoder?

  • Micron vocoder is inferior to MicroKorg's... One of it's few cons

  • i compared them in house and I actually agree with you. the micron vocoder stinks held up against the microkorg vocoder. forget trying to play synth lines with the micro, though.

  • im looking to buy a synth : microkorg or the r3? im playing trance and i dont mind the small keys, also this is my first synth, any help would be great!

  • I had to make the same desicion recently and I tried the two side by side in a shop. The R3 has full sized keys, a better vocoder, sounds nicer and has USB connectivity.

The only downside is that the MK can run off of batteries whereas the R3 cant.

I personally am now deciding between the R3 and the Micro-x, but am leaning towards the R3.

  • Im so glad I finally got one!

  • wheres the rest?

  • where can i get one

  • Most music stores that sell synths.

  • how much does that cost?

  • about 600$

  • in the store its like $550 and with tax about $580 with a warranty its $680, i got a new one with a warranty on Ebay for $455 and $11 shipping. Look on ebay.

  • Now about 500

  • hahaha he played chameleon bass line
