Carter was one of the wisest Presidents of all times and over the years, his policies have been vindicated. Reagan was a failure from gdp, retail and home sales, taxes, fuel, and standard of living.

That's because he tried to make changes and because he was President during a recession caused by an oil crisis. The Ayatollah Khomeini dropped oil production in Iran causing skyrocketing gas prices. Ironically Ronald Reagan enjoyed the benefits of Carter's energy policies. Because Carter insisted on raising fuel efficiency standards and cutting down on fuel usage, Americans used less gas and fuel prices dropped again which led to the economic boom of the 80s.

I read Carter's book. He is a FANTASTIC elder statesman. I think he has done more since he has been out of office--Habitat for Humanity, etc. etc.
