The reason there are no examples of Republican magazines peddling lies about Obama is because Republicans are illiterate, obviously. (There is one actually -- the Weekly Standard, formerly an at least respectable rag by Irving Kristol that has faded into relative obscurity and is so desperate for cash that it advertises on Fox News)
AKP is a murderous party as far as the Kurds are concerned. A young Kurdish Boy aged 7 was not allowed into Turkey because he was called Welat, a Kurdish name. The reason given was the letter 'W' is Kurdish and does not exist in Turkish, so this threatened Turkey's unity. The little boy was returned to Germany where he resides, separated cruelly from his parents, not allowed into his own country under Turkish occupation. What if the boy was called 'Walter'? or Wolfgang'? Outrageous,Shameful
Let me say about the New Yorker cover: the mistaken idea that the New Yorker might use racist imagery to help McCain would have been inconceivable if we didn't live in a world where so many right-wing magazines were doing precisely that--exploiting racist fears in an effort to help McCain.
What the New Yorker was doing was ridiculing those among McCain's supporters who have taken the a lower road than we ever knew existed.
In "defense" of McCain's telling the joke, his own spokesman says "this kind of stuff is an example of McCain being McCain."
If that's the real McCain, I think a lot of Republicans are going to be switching parties to make sure that there is no chance of someone like McCain getting anywhere near the White House.
I got the humor. They were satirizing the ignorant stereotypes the right wing were making of Obama and his wife. Of course it's offensive! They weren't mocking Obama and family, it was the lies and stupidity of the right.
Remnick wrote a book about Ali even though he is clueless on boxing and never had a fight with his own sister.
Now Remnick reveals what a halfwit he is, expressing his admiration for Jon Stewart's "genius."
LOL.

What's inexcusable is John McCain's joke about a woman being raped and liking it. Everybody gets his joke. Nobody finds it acceptable.

Remnick forgot about psychological projection...when employing satire, one risks exposing their true ignorance or attitude.
