Go to any homeless shelter, soup kitchen, or adult literacy program and who is volunteering their time and energy?

A lot of those women are retired teachers! Working for free! For the common good of the society!

God bless the hard, working dedicated teachers who many times go far and beyond the call of duty!

When foolish teachers refuse to teach that basic FACT to children, those children become non-competitive, LOSER adults who are rewarded for being dependant on FORCED taxpayers "charity". They lose ALL self-esteem and ALL hope of EVER reaching the dream of doing better than their parents. This is made WORSE by the "Progressive" income tax which punishes success!

US Failing schools teaching US failing children who become US failing adults who are dependand on the forced charity of US taxpayers. Meanwhile, employers move overseas or import people with the job skills that US teachers FAILED to teach!

An in-depth study in 2004 on the explosion of CEO pay revealed that, including stock options and other benefits, CEO pay is more accurately $500 to $1.

@yakyakyak69 Just FYI, teachers' unions ask for things that help CHILDREN, like funding for libraries, for arts and sports programs, for staff development, field trips, safe transportation... the list goes on and on.

Getting the government out of education means that MOST CHILDREN would be uneducated, as MOST of the cost of public education is paid for by those who do not have children in school. Many parents cannot afford private education, and that would not change if public ed was gone.

@yakyakyak69 Education is primarily handled by the states, not the federal government. As it's not in the constitution, it's one of the responsibilities delegated to the states. And I certainly agree that the federal government's meddling has been harmful rather than helpful.

Clearly you know nothing about unions. Teachers benefit from being able to work in schools that treat students well. Since treating students well helps teachers, teachers' unions push for schools to treat students well.

Other countries whose schools do well on international exams? They have government-supported schools. A good education is expensive, and the market shows that quite clearly.
