I was 8 years old when this record was released, remember hearing it on the radio and thinking it was a bit stiff for that time, a bit old school. But having it over the years i come to appreciate the quality of the song and the marvelous voice that was Matt Munro. I was told when i was little that he usd to be a Bus driver from Dagenham, if thats true then the boy did well !!!

I suppose the old saying that as You get older You become like Your Parent's.Well in My case this is true,As I recall as a youngster some 40 odd Years ago,My Parent's having a few Matt Monroe albums and playing them at Family get togethers,and the like,So much so that now in My Fifties I have this wonderful singer in My own collection,And appreciate what great taste My late Mum and Dad had in their taste of music.

Entry to the Eurovision 1964. Matt Monroe was attracted by the melody

and asked permission from the Composer, Udo Jurgens, to record it

in English. This was the result the haunting melody Walk Away.

Warum nur Warum remains a favorite in Europe can still be heard

from oldies radio. Success came to Jürgens in 1966 when he won the Eurovision after third attempt. Ironically, it was not covered in

English.

I have been listening for 65 years and have a short list of favorite singers and Matt is right up there at the top with Lanza and Frankie Laine, Nat King Cole and Marty Robbins. I never get tired of hearing his rendition of this great song.

@daquidi Thanks for that, and no i dint know that Mat wasn't the original singer, even so i cant believe that any singer male or female could ever sing this song any better, i must also say that the lyrics are also fantastic, depending on my mood some times when listening to this song i can get very chocked, this is the effect that a Ballard of this class does to me.
