My Russian is not the best (so I did understand only a little bit of your comments) and I'm not from Estonia either - so it's actually not my business. BUT from a neutral point of view:
1. the size of Estonia, the number of Estonian speaking people: Indeed Estonia needs to protect its language, Russian is not endangered at all.
2. Exceptions: In regions like in the city of Narva where most people speak Russian (correct me pleaye if I am wrong) Russian should be the official second language and school lessons should be held in the native language of the children, so they are able to learn as effectively as possible, but the national language Estonian should definitely be taught in a way that Russians are able to speak Estonian language in Estonia.
3. The Russians of course should have the same rights, but since they don't live in Russia, they should at least learn the national language and assimilate to the country without forgetting their Russian culture.
As I said, I am not from Estonia. I am from Germany where about 6 million Turks live. Of course there are some differences between Germans and Turks, but I can say almost every Turk has learnt to speak German fluently, only the older people have problems with grammar and pronunciation, but at least everyone tries to learn. But, the statue thing is a bit hard to justify since it has a sentimental value. The safest thing would've been renaming it to something like International Soldier, cause it wasn't just russian soldiers who fell. The main problem with neighboring countries is that they always seem to wanna push things onto their neighbors, be it the Soviet government during USSR times or Estonian government nowadays. I am hungarian but live in tallinn. ive learned the basics of the language pretty fast. but where i live, the older neighbours dont speak estonian at all, because they never really needed it i think, because the estonians had to learn russian in the ussr.
