This one isn't on CD per se, but is available for direct download through Amazon.com. The graphic even has "authorized recording" seal of approval on the image listed there; it wasn't available on anything but vinyl for ages, but was bootlegged a while back - I guess they finally got off their backsides and put out a remastered version of it.
i have this production on vinyl, but i do think it is finally available on cd. it was incredible, wasn't it. can't we get ellen greene back to ny. i wish i had seen her in
"guys and dolls". unfortunately, we can't get raul julia back, but we can get ms. greene with some luck.
SO nice to see people remember Raul Julia in Three Penny Opera, which he was AMAZING in. ANd yes, any time he did the Delacorte, he was electric. Couldn't agree more. What a talented, great man he was.
Does anybody have a video version of the Ballad of the Pimp w/ Raul Julia and Ellen Greene? Or any footage from that show. I saw it at Lincoln Center and I was at the Delacorte Theatre when NYC had it's blackout during Ellen singing "Jenny's song" and she fabulously finished the song and got a standing O in the dark.
@jimjimmyjames59 It was actually at Lincoln Center while the New York Shakespeare Festival had a go at running the place. I saw it and it was amazing.
Saw this when it was at Lincoln Center. Julia made a great MacHeath. He also played a wicked Edmund in King Lear in Shakespeare in the park a few years earlier. He crackled with electricity whenever he was on stage. Gone from us far too soon.
I looked for this song like crazy when I read it in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: 1910!! Finally found it! Really grim, dark and good song. Wish I could have it.
Interestingly enough, this isn't the whole song. I have a copy of this translation, and two great verses are left out (the first and last, incidentaly)
Thanks for this. I saw this with my parents and family all those years ago. It is a good memory for me. I bought the alblum many years back. I can't remember when I played it last. Now I hear this track again. Good memories..
THANK YOU for this posting!

I'm still stupidly hoping someday a CD will be released. Best version ever. Raul Julia outdid himself. Miss him terribly.

I never saw him onstage but I do own a copy of him in the movie version, "Mack the Knife", which was incredible!

i have the album, but can't find the cd. also, why didn't ellen greene become
the superstar she should be. her cd is great, but not available anymore. she
needs to come back to ny and bring some life back to the boards.

Does anyone out there have film or any recording from the Lincoln Centre production of Threepenny Opera? Raul Julias best role.

Thank you. A fine performance by Julia.
This is the only bit from the Shakespeare Festival's production that I've been able to find on YouTube.
I still have the LP, but haven't been listened to it in the years since my turntable died.
Great translation, IMO.
