i'm really sorry to hear about your nan :( xx don't ever feel disappointed about anything you and Dee have done (good or bad), because at the time it may have been disappointing but it's all building blocks, i shared a pony and i grew a really strong bond with him and he was sold and i now don't feel disappointed about anything that we did/happened because i wish he was here :/ you clearly have such a strong bond between your horses it's so nice to see all your videos :) xxx

I don't know what you do with Dee, so it may not be my place to say. But maybe bringing her out once in a while just to bond instead of ride might be good. Make her WANT to try for you. Hop on her bareback, even just sitting with her while she grazes. I've had the same mare for almost 9 years, and it's because of days like those that she still nickers to me in the field. She may be thinking well iv done this before and i know how to do it, can we try something different? your descriptions are starting to sound like the problems i get with my horse! They are both quite capable at jumping, are brilliant when they do, yet half the time they choose not too. As riders we don't want to push them into something they don't want to do but at the same time you want to show their full potential because you no they can do it. It's like hitting a brick wall. With my boy i have been trying different things, getting his brain to work harder, he enjoys it, like lots of gridwork
ive had an immensely hard time too not just the horses going wrong but everything!
i genuinely hope you guys get back on track! its hard when your down in the dumps to look up and see the stars, but you have to fight through this. You can do it- your a very good rider and capable of getting there, it will just take a little time to work through your problems.

Your horse sounds like she has the same personality as my mare. She can be amazing when SHE wants to be amazing. And if she wants to be an arse, you can't get around that. And it doesn't help that we have pretty much the same temperment xD
lots of frustrating days on her, but those balance out with the amazing ones(:

keep your chin up, dont give up on dee yet, maybe try and push through, give her a time limit, like the end of the year maybe before making her a dressage horse :) your an amazing rider, and she is an amazing jumper. When my horse was frist bought, he stopped at everything, and when he stopped, theres no way in hell he is going over that jump, he refused to go through start flags (literally sitting on his arse) and would stop 20m away from the jump. but we pushed through it, he is great now!!
If only there were more people out there like you, Kate. It takes a lot of courage to face up to reality and only you knows what's best for Dee. Secondly, you're a true inspiration to lots of people out there, purely because you never give up. you've tried every method, every trick in the book..makes me smile how far you've come. However, I do know the feeling.. some horses aren't right and although Dee is a talented mare, maybe she's just not for you. It's definitely not your riding, you ride her like a pro!
cont. We had to drop him. Tie him to himself and pull him off his hooves. only then, we did everything he hated; worming, water, shaving... everything. Now he's depending on us instead of going his own way. We make him do it, but he does it even if we don't make him. It's like two cops trying to take a criminal custody.... only the criminal willingly leading them to the jail. Of course now it's not like jail, more of a little girl leading her brothers to the mud. They all like it, and that us :)
That's how my horse was for a while. At fair he was perfect! Despite the four disqualifications and the lower than 3rd place ribbons, I was proud of him for it was his first show EVER. Then he started getting pissy and rearing when he didn't want to do something. For a while he was like that and I just threw the whip down, tossed my helmet in the box and left. For a while. I didn't want to do anything with him. Now we're riding almost everyday and loving it. I got him to listen to me.

Dee sounds like shes telling you something is wrong, if this isnt like her??. I also know with one of my mares, shes not easy and it was like a continuous(sp) losing battle with her, then i got my 148cm too compete and the ride of another 148cm to sj and when i came back to riding my first horse, it took out all of the fight becasue she did'nt have to be going perfect all the time. if that makes sense. xx
@DiddiandMex It is like her, and that's the thing. She does go through phases when she's fab, then turns. She's had her back checked about 3 weeks back because she was due and it's all soft. She's been like this for almost 2 years that I've had her, and in the end it does get tough when you have a horse who is capable but goes through 'mood swings'. We'll probably see how she goes these next few weeks, and if there's no change get her hocks looked at again xx
@xKSEventingx i know exactily what its like to have a extremly capable horse and how fustrating it is when you cant show anyone how much potential they have because they wont let you, until recentily that i managed to solve something shes done all her life. Its all very well checking back, teeth, saddler etc but what im saying it that are limited and can only show perportion of what could possibly be going on. Please don't give up on Dee... to be honest when I was watching your BE schooling, I was thinking to myself "I wish I could even dream of doing that with my horse!"
So much potential should not be thrown by the wayside, you just have to enjoy the good times more than you hate the bad times and it will all work out.
@InsertAddictionHere I'll never give up on Dee, she has so much talent. It's just irritating when she decides not to use it when I need it the most. But we just now have to always take extra care of her and monitor her, for her hocks. She may only last a few more months, but then again last a few more years. That's when we feel she may be used for a foal or flatwork xx
You're by far the strongest person I know. You have never given up so far. Don't give up now.
You should come have a ride on Sweep this summer, have fun and forget about everything, have a blast and dust away the cobwebs, like we did all those years ago with Bexy & Kirsty.

your descriptions are starting to sound like the problems i get with my horse! They are both quite capable at jumping, are brilliant when they do, yet half the time they choose not too. As riders we don't want to push them into something they don't want to do but at the same time you want to show their full potential because you no they can do it. It's like hitting a brick wall. With my boy i have been trying different things, getting his brain to work harder, he enjoys it, like lots of gridwork

ive had an immensely hard time too not just the horses going wrong but everything!
i genuinely hope you guys get back on track! its hard when your down in the dumps to look up and see the stars, but you have to fight through this. You can do it- your a very good rider and capable of getting there, it will just take a little time to work through your problems.
im very sorry to hear about your gran- without mine i would never had owned horses so i understand. i really hope you pull through! xxxx

Kate,You have come through so much with Dee, DONT back down now,Not in the slightest!You's will overcome this,even how bad it might seem!She knows how to press your buttons,Push back at her,let her know your not giving up,Yous can do anything when you set your mind too it so chin up!Dont make desions about her being put into foal/dressage just yet,give her a while to prove herself again.

Your horse sounds like she has the same personality as my mare. She can be amazing when SHE wants to be amazing. And if she wants to be an arse, you can't get around that. And it doesn't help that we have pretty much the same temperment xD
lots of frustrating days on her, but those balance out with the amazing ones(:

keep your chin up, dont give up on dee yet, maybe try and push through, give her a time limit, like the end of the year maybe before making her a dressage horse :) your an amazing rider, and she is an amazing jumper. When my horse was frist bought, he stopped at everything, and when he stopped, theres no way in hell he is going over that jump, he refused to go through start flags (literally sitting on his arse) and would stop 20m away from the jump. but we pushed through it, he is great now!!

If only there were more people out there like you, Kate. It takes a lot of courage to face up to reality and only you knows what's best for Dee. Firstly, sorry for your loss, it must be unimaginable how you feel right now :(
Secondly, you're a true inspiration to lots of people out there, purely because you never give up. you've tried every method, every trick in the book..makes me smile how far you've come. However, I do know the feeling.. some horses aren't right and although Dee is a talented mare, maybe she's just not for you. It's definitely not your riding, you ride her like a pro!

cont. We had to drop him. Tie him to himself and pull him off his hooves. only then, we did everything he hated; worming, water, shaving... everything. Now he's depending on us instead of going his own way. We make him do it, but he does it even if we don't make him. It's like two cops trying to take a criminal custody.... only the criminal willingly leading them to the jail. Of course now it's not like jail, more of a little girl leading her brothers to the mud. They all like it, and that us :)

That's how my horse was for a while. At fair he was perfect! Despite the four disqualifications and the lower than 3rd place ribbons, I was proud of him for it was his first show EVER. Then he started getting pissy and rearing when he didn't want to do something. For a while he was like that and I just threw the whip down, tossed my helmet in the box and left. For a while. I didn't want to do anything with him. Now we're riding almost everyday and loving it. I got him to listen to me.

Dee sounds like shes telling you something is wrong, if this isnt like her??. I also know with one of my mares, shes not easy and it was like a continuous(sp) losing battle with her, then i got my 148cm too compete and the ride of another 148cm to sj and when i came back to riding my first horse, it took out all of the fight becasue she did'nt have to be going perfect all the time. if that makes sense. xx

@DiddiandMex It is like her, and that's the thing. She does go through phases when she's fab, then turns. She's had her back checked about 3 weeks back because she was due and it's all soft. She's been like this for almost 2 years that I've had her, and in the end it does get tough when you have a horse who is capable but goes through 'mood swings'. We'll probably see how she goes these next few weeks, and if there's no change get her hocks looked at again xx

@xKSEventingx i know exactily what its like to have a extremly capable horse and how fustrating it is when you cant show anyone how much potential they have because they wont let you, until recentily that i managed to solve something shes done all her life. Its all very well checking back, teeth, saddler etc but what im saying it that are limited and can only show perportion of what could possibly be going on. Good luck, you clearly adore her alot and im hear if you ever want a chat. :) xx

@InsertAddictionHere I'll never give up on Dee, she has so much talent. It's just irritating when she decides not to use it when I need it the most. But we just now have to always take extra care of her and monitor her, for her hocks. She may only last a few more months, but then again last a few more years. That's when we feel she may be used for a foal or flatwork xx

You should come have a ride on Sweep this summer, have fun and forget about everything, have a blast and dust away the cobwebs, like we did all those years ago with Bexy & Kirsty.

Secondly, I know that things aren't great right now but they do get better, you only have to look at your amazing and inspirational videos to realise that. I hope things looks up for you and Dee, she's a fantastic horse and you ride her extremely well. Life does have it's twists and turns, but stick at it and you'll come out on top, I've no doubt about it whatsoever. Lovely video too, the thought you put in is incredible. x
