The korean war was in the 1950's dumbass. And that's a stalemate only because the cold war was on and we didn't want an atomic war with the soviet union. Cold war's over now dude. We won.

The real drag on the Soviet Union outside the war in Afghanistan was subsidizing the Eastern European countries.
That is why they gave them up so easily.
