  • Amazing film.

I had clinical depression when I was younger and I truly see myself in that man as he contemplates suicide over and over again, except as a child instead of an adult. They really captured the emotion. It's like looking into a mirror.

I'm glad that point of my life is over, but I still struggle with suicidal thoughts from time to time. Thankfully, it's not nearly as intense now as it was then. It's a wonder I'm still alive, personally. I'm impressed such a film was made in the 60s

  • Death comes easy...living is the hard part..

  • When u don't hav shit 2 live 4 please fuckin kill yo self right away

  • this is how i feel who is the man actor

  • 14:03 - Now you get to watch our magnificently proactive film AGAIN!

  • death......please

  • do they still make tv programs like this?

it seems to me like shows were much better that dealt with issues like this. today tv is stupid.

  • Thumbs up if you thought the beginning credits took longer than need be.

  • What is the name of the main actor in the movie?

  • Thank u for this video I also have suffered from depression for a long time the ups and downs are the hardest to deal with

  • @calico26 - thank you very much for your comments. Have you considered trying Cymbalta? It addresses physical symptoms and is a relatively new medicine. We wish you well...regards...

  • @rosaryfilms I have not thought about cymbalta. My medication got changed so it is at a higher dose than it was. It is just hard dealing with a broken heart.

  • @calico26 - Cymbalta will help address the physical symptoms and allow time for the non-physical part of depression to heal. Regards and hang in there...

  • @rosaryfilms Im trying to hang in there. It just really hard getting over someone

  • @calico26 - also check out the books at the Tan Books web site....regards

  • This is a very forward-thinking film for 1965. Thank you for posting this; I had never seen it. I have battled suicidal thoughts and depression for years, and this struck a chord with me. Thank you for posting this.

One of the best descriptions I've ever read of depression is "the worst you've ever felt, and feeling that way all the time." It's really true. I had hoped that, by this point in my life (I'm nearing 50), I'd be past all this, but I'm anything but.

  • @MrNomomojo - thank you for your comments and for sharing your experiences. Have you considered trying Cymbalta? It addresses physical symptoms and is a relatively new medicine. We wish you well...regards...

  • @rosaryfilms Thank you for your concern. I am actually on Cymbalta now, along with generic Wellbutrin and Abilify; it all works fairly well together, but I still have precipitous drops. The adjustments to dosage are a constant.

  • @MrNomomojo i've always had really bad social anxiety disorder and still do as a 27 year old,but i have been getting worse and worse over the past 3 years and now suicide is all i think about, i have no friends or anyone to talk to about this

  • @mywifeElizabeth I would be willing to talk to you, if that's OK. I'm so sorry you're hurting. I'm not a therapist or anything, just a guy who has struggled with severe depression for a long, long time. I'll leave that up to you, of course. But I know how it feels to be overwhelmed with suicidal thoughts. If it gets too bad, I recommend the Samaritans (you can e-mail them any time) or calling the Suicide Talk line (1-800-273-TALK). But I am available to talk, if you like.

  • @MrNomomojo thanks, i'm glad someone else knows what i'm going through

  • @MrNomomojo

You're not alone and you can get out, I am 20 and spent my teenage years very depressed and battling suicide, I had brain cancer at the age of 4 and due to a surgery wasnt allowed to play sports in my teenage years, this took a huge tole on my social life and therefore my mental health but I got out, I got fixed up at the age of 17 and have followed my passion and am now a personal fitness trainer and bodybuilder, you can get out to I wish you the best of luck friend.

  • I can relate to the man's state between 2:05 and 2:15. I just wake up each day, disheartened and giving a quick rub to my temple.

I love our Lord!!! God bless!!

  • Some of the truest words in this ancient vid are spoken by the woman between 21:33 and 21:50 - "Suicides can hardly ever take place if people are TRULY in communication with each other." It makes me cross-eyed with rage when I hear self-absorbed fools remark, after the tragic deed has been done, that they "just don't understand WHY" their friend/family member did it. If only these people bothered to PAY ATTENTION to somebody besides themselves, the warning signs were probably quite obvious.

  • can relate to 4:27

  • Very well then. It was good talking to you. However, it is a mistake to judge Jesus by people who claim to (and may or may not actually) be truly following Him. Just remember that it is never too late to turn to Jesus, and that He is patiently and lovingly waiting, no matter what you've done or how bad things get. He will help you with all the woes of this life and the next. Christ's sacrifice is a precious, free gift. The greatest ever, and it would be a shame it were wasted.

  • what if god isnt the one to follow and its was really buda????

  • That's a very good/important question, and it deserves a good answer. However, I really don't have the space to go over it here, but if you really are interested, you see this reference...

    gotquestions(DOT)org(SLASH)correct-religion(DOT)html

  • Oh, and be sure to take out the space please.

  • god is a fairy-tale, science the answer

  • SchutzeAmon, can science save your soul? No. Science is great for curing our earthly woes, but it has its limits. It isn't everything.

We don't have a perfect understanding of a book written by an infinitely intelligent being. We don't have a perfect understanding of the universe. The fact that two imperfect understandings don't line up perfectly is not surprising. True religion doesn't harm science and true science doesn't harm religion.

  • One thing you have to realize is that seasons pass and so does depression. Depressed people should turn to friends/family/God. Suicide is never the answer. No matter how dark, there is a light at the end of every tunnel. There is always hope.

  • people with depression dont believe you

  • Still, you should seek help from friends, family and professionals. Seasons pass. Depression comes and goes, and is treatable/reversable. Suicide isn't.

Anyways, how can there be no God? How could blind chance make the universe, life and us? God made all these things, and yet He loved you enough to die on a cross for your sins so you could spend eternity with Him. You really shouldn't be depressed. God has given you the greatest gift ever, and all you have to do is accept it.

  • alot of people died on the cross,

and people burnt at the stake in its name

the only thing christans accomplished is mass murder. "the china man and turk will go to school to the christan to aquire guns not religon"

    mark twain

  • People twist perfectly good causes for their own selfish reasons all the time. Its been going on forever, it isn't limited to religion, and it doesn't change the cause. Jesus said "Love thy enemies" which even to this day is considered radically peaceful. You can't let the deeds of sinful men distract you for what God, through His amazing love, was willing to do for you.

  • "Season's pass..." - what a cliched crock!

Spoken like a person who has NEVER "looked over the edge of the abyss" that truly IS suicidal depression.

As Shakespeare said - "They jest at scars that never felt a wound".

  • Well, it is cliche, in that it is said so much that it has lost its meaning, but it is true. I know. I've been there. If people would just talk with family/friends/proffesionals/God ect. and realize that seasons do pass, then they would realize that there is always hope, and suicide is never the answer.

  • @RogerQSchmidt

There's a lot wrong with that. Often, family and religion are the main causes of suicidal depression, at least that's how it was for me. Families can be relentlessly abusive, and religion doesn't cure suicide. It encourages it. Especially if you're not a straight, white, middle class, republican male. And suicidal people don't have many friends. The only way to truly cure suicide is to make excuses for yourself to keep staying alive. Set goals and hope things will get better.

  • I called one of those phone lines, and soon after a man on a bicycle, with flashing lights, started fallowing me, and I saw police cars driving down streets where I was walking. As soon as I'd think it was a coincidence, there would be another one, blinding my eyes with their headlights as they turned. I can't sleep.

  • I think it seems like his parents make him feel shame and his wife is punishing him.

  • If you know someone who is suicidal or if you are suicidal, call 1-800-SUICIDE. There is hope. Rescue is possible. Suicide is not the way to end a human life.

  • does anyone know who the actor is? i can't find this video on imdb or anywhere.

  • In those days? Nothings changed.

  • i am consciousness having an experience

  • we finally passed a mental health coverage parity act in congress. it's about time.

  • in those days only 'crazy' people (or very rich folkes) saw a psychiatrist. people were expected to, like the story line implies, to 'work it out, life's tough.' if people heard you were seeing a psychiatrist, you would lose 'friends' and maybe your job...and maybe mostly, respect. it was very stigmatizing.

  • I feel bad for Charlie.

  • you would think all of these therapists would have mentioned that perhaps he should go see a psychotherapist instead of being sent to a family physician that's going to tell him his tummy is growling

  • Life can be bad, real bad. But suicide is not the answer. There is a light at the end of every tunnel.

  • that is death

  • not the best way of discribing it...since that also discribes death...

  • The tunnel represents hard times. The light represents the end of hard times. Suicide does not solve anything. It's like saying "OK, my computer has a virus so I'm going to destroy my computer."

  • Sound's good.

  • but if you're the computer, you have to deal with yourself having a virus or being defective and some people cannot.

  • In that case, you should take your computer to a computer place where they fix it.

The point of the analogy is that you should seek help. Its important that you seek help instead of isolating yourself, because isolation always worsens these sort of things. You should seek help, not necessarily always from proffesionals, but from people who geniuenly care about you.

  • How old is this video?

I need to know because i have a project on suicide and suicide prevetion.

  • If you need any help on it I wrote a 10 page research paper on it 2 years ago, email me and I'll send you some links.

  • hi guys, I just want to say that in a minority of people suffering from depression, that results from disorder of parathyroid glands. Plz let check your PTH level and serum Ca concentration.

  • No one understands unless there going

    through it. It's HELL.

  • It is. I also find that I have been able to read and understand others feeling and what they go through and help them better since I experienced it and still fight with it.

  • I think that suicidals do want to live, they dont want to do is live the live they are living

  • I have attempted suicide several times as a teenager...and I always thought I was alone. I see that people are now raising more awareness and that makes me happy, though it came a little too late for me. I spent a lot of my teen years in psych wards. Still...good job on this video! Thanks for posting it!
