@xXxNORALADYxXx, for self defense in your home definitely the 357 sig round, yes the 9mm is a bit more affordable but god forbid you are in a life and death situation, you really want something that will stop the assailant, and what more durable gun than a glock! Good luck on your purchase and stay safe and responsible.
I got the glock 23 gen4 great pistol,I keep the 357 sig barrel in it! I use 40 cal for range.in my experience you can take cover quicker from the 40 cal,but hiding from that 357 sig, good luck!
i will buy one Glock but i dont know witch? i need that for home defense or shoot target. is the .357 so much stronger than the rest or the 9mm? many people say buy the 9mm. please help..
will the 357sig round ring your ears like the 357 magnum round does??? i can shoot .45 cartridge all day and not wear earplugs but as son as i pop off the 357mag everything sounds like a broken computer speaker for 15mins!!!
i have a glock g32 which is the compact glock in 357sig. best semi auto load for protection vs humans imho. roughly same power as 357 mag in 125g loads, more power when using double tap ammo than most factory mag loads. Has far less recoil than a 357mag wheel gun. And has a nice flat trajectory. I highly recommend both glock and 357sig ammo.
The Sig Sauer P229 .357 is carried by the U.S. Secret Servive that protects the President of the United States. If it is good enough for them, then it is good enough for me. I love this pistol.
Just do a search and see who carries this pistol. The Navy Seals even carry a Sig. 226. Sig is by far the best handgun you can buy IMO. The Ohio Highway Patrol just started carrying the 229. 40
@RoyalAlba1, you can also buy the (40 s&w glocks, get the ~ $125 lone wolf conversion barrel and shoot 357 sig. The glock 40 mags are the exact same as the glock 357 sig mags.) I already had the 40 Glock (G22), bought the conversion barrel and have really enjoyed the .357 sig round. **FYI, the conversion barrels are made for specific model glocks. Just like you can't shoot a full size G22 with a compact glock barrel. So, remember to buy the right size conversion barrel**
They're both good choices, but i would go with the g26. You have a few more rounds and the .40 might be a little more snappy than what you want if you're looking for something with low recoil. If you ever need to defend yourself a 9mm will get the job done many times over. When I'm choosing caliber I want something really powerful (.45) or something I can carry a lot of (9mm). The .40 is just a compromise between the two. Hope that helps.
Yeah...I hear yah.. I have a 1911 right now and I love it but it gets to be a bit damned heavy carrying around all day. If I had to go with one of those 2 I would say the 27 just because it is in .40 S&W...I am not a fan of 9mm..And not a huge fan of Glock..My wife has one but ehhh..That's just me. Any round will do the job if placed correctly, but 40 has that punch to it. Are you concerned about price at all as far as cost of the weapon?
Depends how big your hands are..If your a smaller person the sub-compact might be good...if your an ogre like me I can manage to get by with a compact.
yes, its the same with most all pistols in .40 cal. great stuff huh? the mags are interchangable between .357sig and .40 S&W also but to shoot 9mm you'll need to replace barrel and mags. For some guns a recoil spring may also need to be replaced.
You have to change out your spring too. .40 S&W recoil springs were not designed to handle to recoil of the .357 sig cartridge. So if you buy a G31 (full carry .357 sig) you can put a drop in .40 S&W barrel. Everyone I've talked to about converting a .40 over said it isnt worth the hassel. That's why I bought a 31. To my knowledge, 9mm is not a convert option. (not that it isnt possible, but just not logical).
actually the springs from the factory in the 9mm, 40, and 357 sig glocks are all the same one. I thought they were different weights too but they all are the same. Although its not a bad idea to get a different one for each caliber.
Would the spring be that big of an issue? They are based on the .40 cartridge..or is it because how they necked it down. I am looking at getting the Sig barrel for my wifes Glock 22...I would appreciate the input
@HvyMetal4Ever No man, the neck is important but were talkin springs. The .40 does'nt kick much. Infacta it does'nt really kick at all compared to .357 sig. Just remeber that's 21,000 PSI inside that cartridge. With that said, you would have to change the spring. Trust me on this one man, get a G31 if you want to cycle .357 sig through it. Then buy a 100.00 .40drop in barrel. If it was built for the round, you can't go wrong with it.
It really depends on what state you live in. Here in Ky I got a sweet new G32 Glock 357 for $475. That is a really good deal though and around here we have nice guns for cheap. I would say average price is form $500-600.
It matters what model you're talking about. Most people who talk about Desert Eagles are talking about the big 50 cal. No hand gun has a bigger round than that. DE's are bad ass but not practical for self defense, way too heavy and bulky not to mention 3 x the price of a glock. There isn't going to be much difference in performance between a glock 357 and a DE 357 except the look and the price tag and I would even say the glock is more dependable and will probably last longer if used a lot.
Well, no. DEs use a gas system so a steady diet of hot, jacketed ammo will keep the gun going reliably though in terms of feeding, the bottlenecked .357 SIG is inherently more reliable. In terms of lasting, DE. The DEs are more overengineered and over built than any handgun made. They use essentially a Garand action for a pistol cartridge so actual wear on this gun, at least in .44mag and .357mag is not going to effect this gun like it does most others.
My roomate's 44mag DE decided to break itself while I shot it. Parts out of the mag well, spring here and there. I would not call that overengineered.
I would but that doesn't mean that a defective magazine won't manage to crop up. However, I'm curious to know how you managed to get parts "here and there". It's stamped steel so did the follower break? Did the floorplate of the mag just come off? How long has he owned the gun and has he taken the mag apart?
It wasn't a mag problem, the mag stayed intact. I fired a shot, then noticed a small spring poking out between the slide and chamber, and the pistol was(obviously) not in full lock. I removed the magazine, racked the slide and a couple small parts dropped out of the magazine well, and I am pretty sure that something small flew downrange. It went straight to the range gunsmith, I wish I knew more about what happened. On the bright side, it was very accurate due to fixed barrel.
Wait, so it actually was the mag. I mean, you mentioned a mag spring initially and by your description, it appears that the follower may have been broken if a spring was poking out between the bolt and chamber after cycling the last round. Or the lip of the mag somehow got bent allowing a bit of the follower to get sheered off by the bottom of the bolt as slide came back. I've had my .44 for 20 years and none of the 6 mags(3 original) it has show a problem so far...(knock on wood)
It wasn't the mag. It did it on the first round of a full mag, and I remember removing the rounds from the mag afterwards. The spring that I noticed was a small spring, perhaps an extractor spring, not a huge magazine spring. The parts that fell off of the gun were not mag related at all. To the credit of the pistol, it was probably not cleaned very well but it still shouldn't have broken apart like that.
Depends. Broken apart like what? The problem here is that you haven't mentioned what exactly broke. I know exactly where every spring is on this gun and now what you described seems to be possibly related to the bolt itself. Both, the ejector rod and extractor are attached to the bolt and have small springs so it would be obvious if either was busted.
After the pistol broke itself, my roomate took over the situation and gave it to the gunsmith. It was probably the extractor, pin and spring that broke off but that is just guessing because this happened about 5 years ago and I didn't attempt to fix it. It doesn't really matter what broke. What matters is that it became a paperweight while shooting and I would never trust that pistol. Maybe it was just a defective part and most of them are reliable. This one was not.
@87228 Glcok semi-autos are THE most reliable, that is why cops and soldiers around the world carry them. Use what the pros do - Glock! I have a 19 and 32 and they are both awesome. Even my wife has a 6 inch group standing unsupported at 25 feet :) The 32 is wicked accurate and consistent. .357 SIG is my new favorite round.
@87228 smells fishy... hot reloads maybe? A stock glock with stock rounds is as reliable as you can get. Or it was improperly disassembled and reassembled...
It has 3 safeties. All controlled through the Safe-Action trigger mechanism. Trigger, firing, and trigger bar safeties are all tied to the trigger movement. That's one of the main reasons for LE adoption.
It has safeties, they are just all built in the trigger. Personally thats how I like it, if I don't pull the trigger it doesn't shoot. You can hit a glock with a sledgehammer with one in the chambere and it wont shoot.
I own a G32.. .357 sig. the compact model in between the 31 and 33...not too big not too small. I WOULD BET MY LIFE ON IT. Period. Balistics mirror the magnum closely, however I have a 357 ruger and think the magnum round is a bit harsher to handle. Can't complain, my Glock has never failed to go bang in over 250 rounds thus far. Accuracy is good too. A mid range option when needed.
if you use factory new ammo i doubt you will ever have any type of problem with any glock, its when you use old stressed out brass in them that the case can fail, also i think you hear more about glock kBs than others simply because everyone and their mother has a glock..
Glock 357 Sigs should have no problems with KB's. The Sigs brass is made stronger than .40 to handle the higher pressures allowed. Also, Glock makes all their 357 Sigs with fully supported cambers thanks to it being a 9mm bullet shoved into a 10mm hole.
Nice gun. I was thinking about getting a 357 Sig as well but am undecided as to what gun to get. How do you like the Glock? Is it a G31? I heard that Glocks have a higher incidence of going Kboom. Any problems with yours?
I love the Sig Sauer 357 but there are little things about the glock that make some people prefer them over the Sig, like the trigger safety. Law Enforcement and military usually prefer Glocks for some of these reasons. Either way you are getting a high quality, very dependable gun that will always impress. It's hard to say anything bad about either, I love them both!
@johnperos I have a Glock 33 which is a subcompact .357 Sig, and I love it. Glocks are great guns. They are VERY reliable. The takedown is incredibly fast. And the tenifer increases metal hardness, and resistance to scratching, rust, and corrosion. All around great guns.
