Now go back to the beginning of the video with this in mind and you can plainly see where his head is and that he is pushing with his back legs. This is a dung beetle, better known as the scarab beetle worshipped by the Ancient Egyptians. Look at Egyptian hieroglyphs and carved monuments, and you'll find it's representation.
After he gets the dung ball stuck he turns around and tries to dig under and around with his head. Back legs pushing, head and forelegs digging. And, of course, I don't actually know if it's a "he". At the end of the movie the producers do give a list of credits to all the different bugs.
