"The Rose" is a pop song written by Amanda McBroom and made famous by Bette Midler, who performed it in the 1979 movie, "The Rose." The movie was about Janis Joplin (famous rock singer that died from drug overdose).

Really quite sad to see because Janis Joplin came from a good home. That's why I say "listen to your parents not your peers"...most of the time.

The lyrics and vocal melody in the piece are wonderful. Unfortunately, it needs some serious orchestration. This could be a wonderful song for a movie if the right composer rearranged it.

LeAnn Rimes voice is good, but, Bette Midler does it better, for it's character. I still think someone out there could come up with some better vocal/instrument harmonies...with violins...definitely.

Some excellent thoughts to contemplate in this piece.

There is no mention of the composer. If anyone else than Mendellsohn claims to have written it they are lying. It is a identical to his piano concerto no 1 2nd movement. It is much better without the words.
