I've read you can't buy Lister type engines in the US because EPA bulsheviks banned them from being imported. Which is really stupid, as Lister type engines generate no more pollution then the equivalent Briggs & Straten in horse power. If one wants a Lister type engine it must be purchased as parts and assembled in order to get around the EPA restriction.
When are these Indians going to learn quality control. We Aussies need to build these engine, run them on all that olive oilwe can't sell quick enough. Bloody olives grow in the desrt and land is cheap.
I know it's cheaper to have Indians build these engines, but it's sad to see the lower standards we have become a custom to, if this had been build in the USA it would not have all this shit in it.
Still looks like a great engine, and I will still buy one.
olha o tamanho do cano que o cara colocou na chave!!!!!!! é um sem noção mesmo! estes americanos não são muito bons em mecanica. já reparei isso muitas vezes
I am fascinated with the Lister engine. A question for you. Is the engine you bought a reconditioned engine from the manufacturer? It seems a bit odd to have to tear down a brand new engine and clean it up. If it was new you should be able to uncrate it, check/fill all fluids and fire it up, no?
These engines are improving all the time but it is wise to give them a thorough check prior to running. Sometimes small particulats from factory assembly are left inside which could cause damage to the big end bearing or crank if left whilst running. Rebuilding is easy and very fun. It helps you learn about the engine, and makes you better placed to know how to service and repair. I consider my rebuilding experience invaluable.
From what I've heard/ read, these Listeroids are mostly made in India and there are little to no quality control and inspection. Many times there are chunks of casting sand still left in the crank case which obviously would make a lot of problems if not cleaned before running the engine.
But even with lack of quality check, a Listeroid will run for a couple of decades if maintained, before needing a rebuild.
Why? Because once cleaned up, these things would probably outlast their owners. They are built like a tank, and are quiet and slow running at 650-750 rpm. They are cheap for how over engineered these things are.
Some people use these to run a generator and use waste motor or vegetable oil as fuel. They are an excellent alternative energy source.
Some use the engine cooling water to heat their home!!

As I said previously......I have since obtained a torque wrench!!

RobKat is right! For the love of the iron in the engine use a proper socket or wrench.

I am surprised that you would use the adjustible (crecent wrench) on the head bolts. Use a socket to do the job correctly.

Very interesting videos.
You have a video about the running engine?
Bidone1967 2 years ago
They'll run on JP7 and Jet-A as well, but with a little less power because the fuel doesn't have as much of an energy density.

Oh, by the way I have subscribed to your account and am anxious to see more videos about your veggie oil setup with your Lister. Sounds exciting.

Compression approx 17:1
8hp
Very low fuel consumption

Why would one buy these engines with such poor quality control? Dirt/metal inside a new engine? wtf.

If you have to ask those questions then these engines are probably not for you. These engines are for DIYers!
