The originals were pretty damn dark and a lot more sophisticated than this dreck. Looks like they got just about every aspect of both characters completely wrong--from wardrobe to posture to attitude...but I'm just a guy who's read all 60 stories over 20 times each (including both sets of complete annotations at least five times), so what the hell do I know? :) However...if it makes somebody curious enough to go back and read the Conan Doyle originals then I'm all for it.

I am a huge fan of the stories and am excited to see them live again. However, Jeremy Brett will always be Sherlock Holmes to me, and I will judge any revival by that standard. I love RDJ, but I wish they had cast someone who had more of Sherlock's character and I hope the whole film isn't like Fast and the Furious, Victorian London edition.Jude does make a great Watson however.

it's a trailer people. Downey and Law are still good actors, and though the trailer isn't amazing, I still plan on seeing it. The whole "ladies man" thing was said in an interview to actually go to Watson, because that's how he was originally portrayed in the novels, instead of the dumb sidekick. Plus, they're both hott...added bonus. =)

Nothing about this suggests that this holmes will be a ladies man..he is only with two (one is a maid) Holmes is a "karate kid" if you have read the storiesno holmes film has ever been true to the books, each simply take aspects of holmes they want to illustrate..this one wants to take characteristics that would please (many of) todays modern movie goers. That's fine. Whether or not the movie is good, Downey always gives an enjoyable performance (even if isn't as the homes we all THINK we know)

Trailers show what the movie will be like- u didn't see Pride and Prejudice trailers with explosions or fist fights. Holmes is more mystery than action and we only get a glimpse of mystery in the trailer.

If a movie has action scenes and "funny moments", it's very common for the marketing people to focus on them in the trailers, to make it seem "exciting", "hilarious", "crowd-pleasing" etc. It's the Hollywood standard, for better or worse. It doesn't mean that there won't be any mystery in it - according to those who read the script, it most certainly is. So I'm still looking forward to this new, kick-ass Holmes.
