A few years ago I was at a top hotel restaurant in Cairo and a belly dancer was doing her stuff. When she arrived at our table I asked her where she was from. And the answer....NEW ZEALAND! I felt cheated.
I love her costumes. It just shows that you don't have to be half-naked to show the fullness of the moves. If I ever get or make a belly-dancing costume, I want it to look like this one!
I stumbled upon this and took the time to watch it - I am from the western part of the world and I have to say this way of dancing is much more charming and sensual then the western dances! She's got a nice body and a pretty, bright face, a MUST for any dancer.
I especially like the close up showing her arms and upper body movement from 2:30 on, to me the essence of femininity, absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing to the world.

The way she dances seems a lot closer to Polynesian dance, instead of middle eastern. It's like she's trying to tell a story instead of just entertain.

I agree and disagree. She is extraordinary because she is not typical of the average Egyptian dancer. There is a girl-next-door sweetness about her phrasing and presentation that you don't find elsewhere. She has very long arms and uses them beautifully.

So true Gypsy...this is the REAL thing, no choregraphy, no boring mechanics, no counting. Real Egyptian Ra'asa dance from the heart, soul unlike Jillina who lacks so much.
Again, there is no comparison. Suheir Zaki is a household name in the Middle East and dancers around the world know who she is. She couldn't walk in the street without being mobbed by fans. Jillina and company are dancers whose "fans" are mainly other belly dancers. They are not famous in America and most ppl living in the 'land of belly dance' have never heard of them.

Most Egyptians would disagree. Dancers like Suheir represent the true essence of this dance. They dance naturally from their soul. American dancers often come off as overly sexy and overly choreographed.
Suheir is my favorite. I do think Jillina is lovely and fun to watch, but Suheir is untouchable. She has something so beautiful, natural, and undeniable about her! Out of so many comments very few people have anything at all negative to say about her. Her dancing is sooooo moving and so beautiful.
She looks very pretty when she dances, and she's very graceful as well. In addition to that, I don't think that she has a weight problem. I mean, come on! At her age, she got wonderful curves. And 'skinny' doesn't always equal to 'fit.'
A bellydancer should be any size, if you go back to the history of bellydance you will see people of all sizes. So I think people should not make comments on her size. Comments like that brings on bulima
If you see the clips i posted she was a lot younger and slimmer. This was filmed 15-20 years later. She is in her late 30s, maybe early 40s. Of course her body is going to change! Suheir comes from the Egyptian city of Mansoura which is known for its beautiful women. She's great regardless, and she also happens to be THE Suheir Zaki. People are willing to watch her even if she weighs 200 lbs!!
Actually no. She is the perfect size. Belly dancers aren't MEANT to be thin. = Look into more classical belly dancing and not the modern crap and it's only the newer generation that is getting thinner to fit into Western trends.

I love the old Egyptian style dancing. Even the cheesy expressions are a great part of it. I have not seen any Turkish or Lebanese dancers that can compare to Egyptian dancers. IMNSHO
I don't know, that costume has that harvest gold flower power thing going on, reminds me of the 60's or 70's. But I don't claim to be an expert on costumes through the ages ;)

we have to think that, in this time, doesn´t matter the perfect technique that we can see in new dancers like jillina, rachel brice, amar gamal...

Most Egyptians would disagree. Dancers like Suheir represent the true essence of this dance. They dance naturally from their soul. American dancers often come off as overly sexy and overly choreographed.

Suheir is my favorite. I do think Jillina is lovely and fun to watch, but Suheir is untouchable. She has something so beautiful, natural, and undeniable about her! Out of so many comments very few people have anything at all negative to say about her. Her dancing is sooooo moving and so beautiful.

She looks very pretty when she dances, and she's very graceful as well. In addition to that, I don't think that she has a weight problem. I mean, come on! At her age, she got wonderful curves. And 'skinny' doesn't always equal to 'fit.'

A bellydancer should be any size, if you go back to the history of bellydance you will see people of all sizes. So I think people should not make comments on her size. Comments like that brings on bulima

If you see the clips i posted she was a lot younger and slimmer. This was filmed 15-20 years later. She is in her late 30s, maybe early 40s. Of course her body is going to change! Suheir comes from the Egyptian city of Mansoura which is known for its beautiful women. She's great regardless, and she also happens to be THE Suheir Zaki. People are willing to watch her even if she weighs 200 lbs!!

Actually no. She is the perfect size. Belly dancers aren't MEANT to be thin. = Look into more classical belly dancing and not the modern crap and it's only the newer generation that is getting thinner to fit into Western trends.

I love the old Egyptian style dancing. Even the cheesy expressions are a great part of it. I have not seen any Turkish or Lebanese dancers that can compare to Egyptian dancers. IMNSHO
