  • Wow thanks!!!

  • I was trying to use another way of depotting and I ruined an eyeshadow 'cause it was so hard to take out the little metal pan of the black container ;__; but thanks to your video I successfully depotted 3 blushes and 5 eyeshadows today! Thank you soooo much!

  • damn that is a lot of work. I bought the larger pallet from MAC today and can't wait to transfer my singles to the large case. I will be going to Michael's tomorrow. Thanks for the video.

  • WILL IT BLEND????

  • Great video!!! Once the shadows are depotted can the containers be retuned to Mac without the metal containers in it? Can you return the metal container holding the shadow for the back 2 Mac program?

  • Fabulous! Thank you!

  • thats crazy I'm going to florida mall tomorrow to get this palette! lol

  • does mac open and check if the metal part is still there?

  • wow great tutorial, you thought of everything!

  • hey how did you remove the sticker from the pot ?

  • @cecipazs what sticker???

  • @PrettyTips - sweet, thanks!

  • @PrettyTips - hi, thank you for posting such an informative and helpful video...now, I was just wondering what color MAC shadow it was that you used for the taping of this tutorial...thanks again!

  • @b017ni3 Hi, I'm not sure if this particular colour was discontinued, but the eyeshadow I used is "Glamour Check!"

  • I did exactly what you said and it worked like a charm! Thank you for putting this up!

  • I wanna truly thank you for this video cause I was about to screw up something lol

  • Love your tutorial!

  • just so you guys know your shadows dont have to have the metal pan in to send it back to MAC.

  • I am going to try this trick because i have three mac eyeshadows that i need to depot. Thanks

  • AHHH thank you so much. I went to mac and bought a pallet and the lady was so bitchy and told me that I shouldn't do that, that it'd be a bad idea, and that I should buy new colors instead. I tried to get one of my shadows out, but it didn't work, so I ended up taking it back. But now I'm gonna go buy it again and do this! :D

  • @meaniemaelily Glad the video helped!

  • Im curious if you buy the pans from coastal scents are they the 44mm or 26mm?

  • you can also heat the sticker a little to get if off

  • I'm so excited about this tip. I can't wait to try it! Thanks.

  • Nice job. I've depotted several palettes worth of shadows but I used the alcohol method and it was a little messy. Fortunately, I was still able to b2m them. I'll have to try your method next time. XOXO Heidi

  • This video was awesome. Never knew it was that easy to do.

  • hands down best and NEATEST depotting technique! thank you so much for being so good at this :)

  • @shesprettyjustaskher Glad you liked the vid!

  • I don't have a flat iron, what else could I use?

  • @meadowfrance Good question. I find the straightener is the safest. I'd be afraid to recommend another method that's not as safe. Hair straighteners are really cheap these days.

  • @PrettyTips I de-potted two eyeshadows last night. I just put some foil in a flat cooking pan and put the eyeshadow in the pan. It worked fine, you just have to be careful not to get it too hot.

  • THANK YOU...doing mine as I watch your video lol

  • @pakipinagirl Glad you liked it!

  • This is one of the best methods I've seen on here where not only was the packaging NOT ruined but the original label was used. Thank you!

  • @tdotgyal4166 Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

  • if you buy the eyeshadows as refills itself, it's cheaper and comes with the magnets already but great tip if you have some that you want in a palette. thanks.

  • @azngyrl4yu I agree! Buying the refills are definitely the affordable way to go. This method is for those random pans one may have acquired.

  • Tried it and worked perfectly!

  • @acalvarado7 Glad it worked for you!

  • I Was Doing This And I Broke The Knife Tip! Haha Fell Like Such A Loser!

  • you can get these palletes behind the counters, that's where i got mine from :)

  • Can you back to mac the pots still?

  • @TheJackieGlitters You can back to MAC the pots, I just recommend getting the little metal pan to replace in the pan.

  • Thanx love:) U just schooled me on "How to" ...Before watching your video i was told i had to re- purchase all new shadows to go in my pro-palette:(..I knew there was a better way!!!! Again thanx a millon!!!Niki

  • @mikeesha100 This is definitely the money saving way!

  • Awesome! Thank you :)

  • @emergencylipstick You're welcome!

  • great job! depot-ting always sounded so difficult but you proved me wrong :)

  • wow ! thank you soooo much ! this was a really good video and you explained it so well thank you sooo much

  • @bibalish36 Glad you enjoyed it!

  • How do you put the pan back into the pot for the recycling program?

  • @kdewhurst5 You buy an empty metal pan, like from Coastal Scents or something, and just stick it where the old metal pan was.

  • Wow thanks this really helped!!

  • Thank you!

  • The MAC 15 eyeshadow empty palettes/eyeshadow holders are more beneficial if you remove the black divider. You can only fit 15, but If you remove the divider you can neatly fit 26 eyeshadows instead :]

  • @sandylovesmakeup Great tip! Definitely useful if you have a lot of eyeshadows!

  • Hi,

I was wondering if the heat of the flat iron will change the composition of the shadow?

  • Very well explained, easy and neat. Do u need the label on the pot to back to Mac?

  • Why don't you just buy them in pan form, it's way cheaper.

  • do you have to put the metal thing back in after you finish the shadow to back to mac it or do you just take the container

  • or you could save the trouble and buy the eyeshaddow in pan form? :L

  • wow, you are super crafty! awesome~

  • pretty cool and well done

  • Great video, Thank you!!!

  • SOO helpful! Thanks girll(:

  • i have doubles of all the mac eyshadows and now i moved the one in the case into the panand still use it again thank you

  • Hey...i am starting to depot and there isn't a hole in the plastic to stick a needle in to push out the actual shadow how do i either make a hole in the plastic or get underneath the shadow to separate it? This is the case with all of the shadows I have tried so far....

  • could i use like a cotton pad with nailpolish reomver to remove the glue instead of the alcohol wipes? thanks

  • @eveheartscandy Yes, that works. I've tried it ;)

  • Will MAC still take the containers even though the labels aren't on it?

  • why do you need to use achohol?? :D

  • such a great informative video! thank you very much for that! i just bought my first palette and i wanted to put my other shadows in it and i wasnt sure how i would be able to. thanks again! :)

  • this was so helpful thank you for making this video!

  • what was the pretty pink color that you also had in the pallet?

  • what was that pretty pink color that you had hit pan on????

  • Actually, an easier way to pop out the shadow tray from the pot is to place the knife or scissor blade in the hindge area while the top is open, it just's "pops" right out.

  • that seems like a ton of work just for one eyeshadow

  • gr8 idea xx thanxs

  • Is it dangerous to use foil on a straightner? I'm sure it's ok but just wanted to ask, thanks again

  • @AngeLEyes8100 Well, putting anything on a hot appliance like a straightener should be used with extra caution because it can get very hot. Just be sure not to leave the foil and pan on it for too long.

  • @AngeLEyes8100 It could catch on fire so you should use parchment paper because that can not catch on fire!! Hope that helped! :)

  • @AngeLEyes8100 parchment paper is a better choice because it wont catch on fire or burn!

  • Do the magnetic backings already come with the refills? thanks

  • @AngeLEyes8100 Yes, the Official MAC refill pans have the magnetic backing

  • @PrettyTips so when you place an actual magnet on the back of a depoted container does it rise up a-bit more in the palette???

  • @ImJustMe228 Depends on the thickness of the magnet. I recommend using the thinnest one you can find. But the palette is made to expect a magnet.

  • WORKS!!!!!!!!!!

  • This video was sooo helpful, thanks! :)

Btw to anyone who doesn't know, you can buy cheap plain palettes and put them in the de-potted Eyeshadow and take them back to mac. So it looks like you have just used them up :) x

  • Very cool I always wondered how to do this I will go to Mall at Milennia MAC store tonight to try this yay

  • this was my first time depoting my mac eyeshadow since all my other i bought in pan forme and it worked great! thankyou :)

  • really helpful

  • like how hot does the iron get?

  • Thank you for showing this process!!

  • You could do square magnetic pieces. No wasted material and it really won't make a difference.

  • @puddlemonster15 I never thought of that, thanks for the great tip!

  • You actually happen to be really sexy, thanks for the video recording. it is actually pathetic i live within Graham for the reason that i can not get decent make-up, on the other hand i get hold of freely available samples of make-up through 'Gratis Makeup Samples'. i really like Garnier makeup!

  • oh i so should have watched this first haha ill do this next time :)

  • i tried to do it but it smelt like it was going to catch on fire so i just tried pulling the pan out using a saftey pin and i totally stuffed up the pan and had to try and reshape it a bit and grrr.

  • @LoadsOfMakeUp4You That's why you only have to heat it for a few seconds at at time, then test it, and try again.

  • @PrettyTips yer haha i wish i watched this before I did it cas now they look stuffed.

  • can you back to mac a eyeshadow if you buy the ones that are already depoted ?

  • @ilahmakeup49 Yes, you can back-to-MAC the separate pans that are palette ready.

  • @PrettyTips they told me that it has changed ...like you can only back to mac they eyeshadows the way you bought them...is that true or is this acceptable?

  • Thank you! Perfect step by step instruction!

  • can you back to mac if the black container still has the metal tin in it because i dont want to depot my shadows??

  • @babyash707 Yes you can :)

  • I love the MAC store at the Florida Mall!

  • that was really helpful - thanks sooo much :)

  • this works sooooo well! thank you so much for posting this!

  • I'm so confused... Are you Depoting just the eye shadows you purchased in the container before you bought a pallet?? or do you always do that?? And if you do the BAck to Mac do you need that metal pan in there?? or you just return it with out??

  • @CREEPYANI It's for limited editions and things, since they don't come in pro palette form.

  • Thanks for the tip! I almost cracked my eyeshadow trying to depot without knowing what to do. What a pain to go through all of these steps! Thank goodness i only have one eyeshadow to depot. Awesome video!

  • i cant wait to depot mines,, just need the empty palette getting it soon...

  • i thought the pallettes came with magnetic so y do u have to go buy magnets an glue them to the eyeshadow if the pan is metal it shud stick to the pallete right?

  • @mizzmakeup1 The pans are aluminum and the pallete base is metal/iron. That's why you have to put a magnet on the pan, to stick to the iron base.

  • @mizzmakeup1 i think that refill pans which are made for u to put in palettes do hav magnets on the bac (cant be sure) but if there's a limited edition shadow thats in a pot that u want to place into ur palette then u hav to stick it on as the ones in pots defo dont hav magnet. :)

  • great video! i was just wondering if u buy a pan for the pallete, does that count for back to mac?

  • @xX94laurXx Yes, you can back-to-MAC the individual pans that you've bought as individual pans. It must have the magnet and sticker/label.

  • So perfectly neat and tidy. I'm going to try it this way. Thanks.

  • Thank you (:

  • Great thanks!! :) Very helpful but I think I will just buy a Pan eyeshadow then with a pot. LOL :) Its easier!

  • great thanks cant wait to try it!

  • Thanks for the awesome tip!

  • oh my god! this worked so well for me! they didnt break at all, but last time i did this they did!

  • great video. Very neatly done.

  • i know i'm way late watching this, i just started buying mac in the black containers, i always purchased just the pans. thanks so much, this was really helpful.

  • what does it mean to "be able to back to mac it"?? Anyone??

  • this is soooo much easy!! I will do this tomorrow to ALLL MY SINGLE ONES THANKS =)

  • i tried this method and it works better than using a flame. THANX ALOT! i depot over 20 shadows in less than thirty minutes. i need more space so i stop buying single shadows in the container and started buying pans but still had so many singles and this help me alot....

  • without the magnet sheet that you put on the back of the eyeshadow, can you still put it on the palette will it still stay there

  • thanks for the advice...you have such amazing videos

  • Is it possible to 'repot' eyeshadows? I sometimes want to only take 1 or 2 shadows with me when I travel or store away colours I am not as keen on for a season or two.

  • OMG!!! It worked for me!! I deppotted all 8 of my eyeshadows. And the black trays were still able to fit back into the containers. I used scissors to pop it out (very easy), and i used a 210 degree flat iron and placed it on there for 12-15 seconds.

I am keeping my containers. Because when the pans go empty IM going to just put the pans back in the container and back-to-mac it like that. WHy buy pans when u can just wait til u run out and use the old pans.

  • @MulataLinda8 I meant 210 degree Celcius flat iron. That is pretty hot. I also kept the glue on the back of the shadow (let it cool down just a tad) and use that, instead of magnets. If i want to clean the glue out, I can use acetone since it dissolves glue. thanks for the video!!!! I went out and bought the palette before even watching how to depot it, so yes I was very nervous. No cutting it out or anything.

  • Thank you for sharing this, very helpful:)

  • People depot the e/s because some shadows that are limited or not in the permanent line do not come in the pans. This looks good, thanks for sharing!

  • hmm... every eyeshadow comes in a pan dude.

  • what I am talking about is the fact that eyeshadows that are not in the permanent line do not come as just a pan they only come in a casing which you would need to depot if you wanted to put it into a pro pallet. If it is in the permanent line than go ahead and buy the cheaper $11 pro pallet refill instead of the $14 e/s in the casing that would need to be depoted if you choose to put it in a pro pallet.

  • ALL the eyeshadows come in a pan. and the pans, can come in either containers or either quads... :)

  • I just had to buy some in the container form because they were sold out if the pro pan form, and they didn't know when they are going to get them in so I am debating depoting them, if I could have bought them in the pro pan form I would have been happier but alas I could not and they are still sold out.

  • but you can back2mac the containers ;) well actually you can't anymore if you live in the united states but like if you live in england.. or france.. or australia, you know.. (:

  • I know it sucks that you cant just take the pans in but Im debating if I want to use the pro pallet or not, I have them but it seems easier to find what Im looking for when I dont have to open up all these cases, even if they are labeled lol. But single e/s get bulky, ohh I dono but I would love a free e/s or somethin =)

  • Sorry, I was just wondering what's the point of depotting the MAC Shadows? Why don't people just buy the single pan ones instead?

  • Because then you can back2mac the containers :)

  • Thank you. :)

But then with the when you trade in 6 of the containers to get something else..the price difference between buying the pan and the cased ones...it kinda adds up, doesn't it? Like, the panned ones and the cased ones are roughly a $3 or $4 difference, and that times 6, is...pretty much the price of a new lip product/shadow, isn't it?

I don't mean any of this in a bad way, I promise. I'm just trying to figure out which one is more worth it...thanks again! :)

  • Haha it's okay :-) Then just get them in pan form if you're going to buy less than 6 and if you don't like lipstick buy them in pan form (-: And you're not gonna get an eyeshadow at your counter, only at a MAC store, I think (-:

  • Ahhh. Otays. Awesome. Thanks so much again! :)

  • Do mac stores take back the eyeshadow containers like that? Without the sticker and the empty pan? thanks for the vid!

  • thank you for this tutorial! This actually looks safe vs. others i've seen

  • Thank you for the video. It's so helpful.

  • Awesome Video, Thanks!!!!!!!!

  • thank you so much for showing this!!!! awesome :) now if i only bought a palette while i was at mac today lol

  • awesome, thanks!

totally gonna go do that now.. ;) :P

  • sweet I'm so going to do it this way

  • I really like your videos! They look so professional :)

  • Does anyone know what size are the pans you get from costal scents that fit into the depotted mac e/s the 26mm or the 44mm? thanks??

  • Great ideas. My fav depotting video that makes B2Ming possible! Thanks!

  • does the magnet have to be put on the pan. i already sticked the color labels onto the pan from the container :(

  • yes it does so that way it will stick to the palette, lol Try to take the sticker off Very very very slow and carefully so you don't rip it and put the magnet on the pan then put the label back on :)

  • This is by far the best depot video I have seen on youtube. Thank you so much. Now I know a clean and easy way to do it =]

  • Great!

  • Great video! Thanks!

  • Greetings,

Can you tell me what colors are in that palette I want to order them. By the way great tut! I can now depot without destroying the container. Thanks.

  • Great advice!!!! Worked wonders!!!! Super fast method!!!

  • thank you this video helped alot :)

  • this has to be the best depoting video on utube!!!!

  • oh my gosh, i have no idea why, but this is my favorite depotting video! thanks so much! :)

  • If you heat up the bottom of the pot for a few seconds, the sticker will come off easier with the glue still intact

  • i just got a zippo and burnt the bottom and it popped right out but i dont need it neat because im keeping it in the pallete the whole time

  • Why do you have to replace the pot? You still bought them right? What diffrence does it make if the metals not in there?

  • Some places you go to return them for Back-to-Mac require the metal pan to be in there. But it really depends where you go.

  • @cmbrasgalla

I think it has something to do with MAC not wanting you to get free items unless you've actually used all of the product. =\

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH! I love Mac eyeshadows but i was getting to many of them and it got to be a pain to search through them so i bought a palette! I am going to try this on monday! I will let you know how it works.. What did you have your flat iron set to? High, Med. Low?

  • How did it work for you? I had my setting at medium high. The higher it is, you just have to check it quicker.

  • wow thanx for the info and sounds about right on e/s refills....thanx again :)

  • 6 containers will get u a free lipstick,excluding viva glam.

  • ok so im new to all this depotting and tryin to understand that u can return the emptie containers to mac and wat do u get in return for this?

  • I believe if you turn in 6 pots, you get a free lip product/eyeshadow. However, it winds up being cheaper if you buy the eyeshadow refill pans by themselves, even if you get the free lip product/eyeshadow.

    Assuming tax is $.0825...

    POTTED E/S: $14.50 . 14.50 X 6 = $87.00 + tax ($7.18) = $94.18 — 7th e/s FREE

    PANNED E/S: $11.00 11.00 X 6 = $66.00 + tax ($5.45) = $71.45 — 7th e/s w/ tax $83.35, 8th e/s w/ tax $95.26

Not my math, I don't know the name for whom I should give credit
