Amazing building. I would love to go take pictures while its still run down- not inside or anything just around it. Fascinated by it all the way in Dayton Ohio.
I agree that you can take pictures of burned down houses in most large cities, but to this extend... Don't get me wrong, I don't like to see this, but I'm afraid that a lot of these buildings (and some are really great buildings, heritage somewhat maybe) are lost forever. And yes there are still good houses and area's in Detroit. True that that is not said enough.
This is a perfect example of someone taking a few pictures of the worst part of a city and then saying the whole city is in shambles.....I have family in Detroit.....it has serious problems......but it also has serious promise ....its not as bad as these doomsdayers make it out to be
@jmallton But you can take these kind of pictures in Detroit can't you? Says enough to me, you have ghetto's in Europe to, but no city has this much abandoned and burned down buildings. I know because I am from Europe but used to live in Detroit from 2002 till 2006.
@amisven You can take these type of pictures in any large city.....I have family who still live in Detroit and they live in very nice homes.....these pictures try to make you think Detroit is like this all over...it is not
@jmallton I agree that you can take pictures of burned down houses in most large cities, but not to this extend... @jmallton But sadly enough the bad side of town is pretty large, Highland park, the area round central station. If you drive down Woodward ave and pas 7 mile road, just take any left or right and tour around. It should not be tolerated by the citizens of the city. I left Detroit 5 years ago, maybe it has changed but when I speak to people I know who live in Troy and Ann Arbor ... There is a lot to do for Detroit...
@Guitarrosaurusrex yup, this is an example of what happens when a society no longer manufactures anything or has a meaning. For every one of these buildings, a new shiny building is being built in China. Transfer of wealth. America is dying.

Wanna know how to rehabilitate detroit? Move out all the blacks and have a bunch of asians move in. I swear asian neighborhoods in the u.s always go up in value due to commerce, education and low crime rates.
What has happened to our once great industrial center of the country? Its breathing its final gasps of breath... It may be the first great city to fall, but it certainly wont be the last... I weep for America
Once profitable (after tariffs were imposed) the Carlyle Group, AKA the Bush-Bin Laden syndicate, sold the whole shootin match to the Ruskies for billions in profits.
The chicoms were dumping welded pipe, imports went from 100.000 tons in 2003 to 720,000 tons in 2006. To make a long story short the ITC ruled that the US could impose tariffs but Bush said that they would "hurt consumers". Once all the pipe produces were bankrupt the Carlyle Group swooped in and bought something like 11 of them. Just a few months later Bush decided tariffs were good and put a hefty tariff on chicom pipe.
On the morning of Monday, October 25, 2004, the business media was abuzz with news that Ross had struck a deal with Indian mogul Lakshmi Mittal to sell International Steel Group (ISG) for $4.5 billion. Shares of ISG immediately jumped, so that by the end of the day, Ross and other ISG shareholders were $545 million richer than they had been when the stock market closed on Friday.
After Bush imposed the tariffs, the stock prices of the steel companies went up.
About 95,000 retirees of defunct Bethlehem Steel, for example, collectively lost $380 million in health-care benefits between March 31, 2003, when those benefits were terminated by Judge Burton Lifland of U.S. Bankruptcy Court, and October 25, 2004, when Ross agreed to sell the former Bethlehem assets to Mittal.
Around the beginning of 2001 the domestic steel mills were in trouble due to the dumping of imports. Of course Bush being the free trader he is would not impose any tariffs.
Anyway, LTV, Weirton, Bethlehem (which included Lukens), and Georgetown Steel were all bought by Wilbur Ross for pennies on the dollar. LTV files bankruptcy on Dec. 29 2000. Ross buys LTV on Feb. 27 2001. On March 6 2001 the FREE TRADER Bush signs 8% to 30% tariffs for 3 years.
American producers filed six 421 petitions during the administration of President George W. Bush. In four of those cases, the ITC found in favor of the American producer and recommended the imposition of tariffs. In each instance, President Bush rejected the ITC recommendations. Subsequently, two of those petitioner industries -- the U.S. iron waterworks and wire hanger producers -- have gone out of existence.
Help save Detroit? Every person with any sense has left. Only 25% of HS kids even graduate. 7 in 10 murders go unsolved. Packs of wild dogs run the streets. The thousands of abandoned buildings are in such a state of decay as to be unsalvagable. They must be tore down. Who would move INTO this wasteland and why? The local population is mostly illiterate. So you have to tear down buildings to build new ones, hire security like in Iraq, and entice workers from afar.
@zizyphus99 Pls try not 2 mislead the public with yr horrible description. There are still good parts n the city safe 4 kids2 play & grow East English Village-Rosedale Park 2 name a few. Yr comments can b viewed as an injustice 2 those who choose 2 remain & call this place home. I dont no where u live but the writing is on the wall. If u think this couldnt happen 2 your city just hang tight. Det. been a testing ground city for yrs. Whatever happens to Detroit will soon happen to America. Peace!
this happened because of having 1 industry, diversify and take care of your city, ppl make it a shitty place to be. some of the houses would have looked awesome in their day.
@markjv Some truth to that Markjv ...but The point I was trying to make is that the entire city does not look like what is depicted in this video. Noone would stay if the entire city looked that way. I guess he had to shoot the worse parts to match the erie sound effects....its call drama...I certainly wish ppl would do videos on the good parts sometimes. but yeah some parts are unbelievable. Funny how he shot that whole video with the windows rolled up LOL!!
only some pockets fo "city" the rest is ghosttown that was left to decay, ppl just left, just dont care. no doubt about the windows. dying city definately, seeing the "future" promises of progress seen from a distance w the ppl mover, but its a bygone era. D didnt have to die car companies w deep pockets/greed killed the city. my city was always manufactering and always survived.
and "ghetto" most ppl dont live in those areas, they are abandoned areas. hard pressed to find it in canada
@markjv The nices parts are the areas that boarder other neighboring cities but they still exist. What specifically did the car companies do to Detroit besides abandoning it? (which was worse than anything). So sad to see the bulk of ppl leave. Causes more problems as in mental illnesses. I see ppl becoming very depressed due to isolation in certain areas. So abnormal....
@TheMidcoast1 its so sad that large pocket look like this. Canada really doesnt have too many places that look so abandoned, check out life after ppl, discovery channel. very sad to see so much neglect.
i can see why some want to stay but seems a losing battle/cancer, some times u have to just give it up n leave.
This is what happens when the U.S. government destroys our protective tariffs while every other nation on earth cheats on every trade agreement before the ink can dry.
The Republicans have been the worst on trade votes.
Since NAFTA the Repubs in the House and Senate have about an 84% pro-free trade record.
The Dems are about 38% in the House and 46% in the Senate pro-free trade.
The Repubs rammed these trade bills through, not the Democrats.
This is what happens when you buy weed and a Forty instead of painting your house or cutting the grass.
This is what happens when you wait for Democrats to give it all to you free while you sit on your ass not working.
This is what happens when you elect people you do not even know, and have no clue what they stand for, but you vote for them, because he is black and you are black.
what ever is happening there is really disturbing and scary !! lets hope for the best .. as the victims are the normal, peace loving citizen like us .. we all (the normal people of the world) are victims !
