beautiful hair! Tell me your secret!!! I have been naturall (big chop) since May of last year and I am still in that awkward mini afro stage and lately my hair has been super dry and brittle..any suggestions? I really would love for my hair to be more healthy.
Drink lots of water (it really does help). Do more deep conditioning using a moisturing conditioner. Look at the ingredients of the products you are using on a regular basis for protein ingredients as too much use of protein products will cause build up resulting in brittle, dry & breaking hair. Get a good moisturizing leave-in conditioner.
Thanks for sharing this. I've been 'transitioning' for a little over four months. My last relaxer was in late august of 2011. It got to the point where it became a struggle managing the two different textures in my hair, so I attacked my hair with a scissor early this morning, only to be left feeling if I'd just made a HUGE mistake. Could you share on some of the products you've used. You're regime around that first year bracket? I believe our hair texture is close to the same.
What does your diet consist of, cause many times what one eats will make the hair grow, too...Just like what one eats will make you gain or lose weight.... So what do you eat that makes your hair that healthy and long???
Wow, it looks like your hair grows 6-8 inches a year. My hair nearly grows at that pace because everytine a get my hair done in braids it grows 1-1.5 inches in 2 months. My hair is not as long as it should be because of so much shedding, breakage. My problem is retention of length because there are people whose hair and nails grow way slower than mines (about 2-4 inches a year) but their hair is still longer. What hair producs do you use? I used africa's best but now use cantu this week.
sera i'm a nigerian dude who wants to grow his hair..there aren't many africans out there that put up videos..i'd appreciate it if you can give me advise since you may know more about african textured coarse hair lol..my hair is really short right now..and i started growing it earlier this year..but i lack experience with regards to taking care of it...any advise you give will help. thanks
Hi there, I would suggest caring for your hair as if it were the finest silk (lol). Moisture is very important, so look for hair products that help retain moisture. Protein treatments also help keep hair strong & more resilient to damage from comkbing & styling. I would suggest finding out what so a good balance of protein & moisture treatment for your hair (for example, 1 protein treatment every other month & 2 deep conditioning/moisture treatment every month works for me.)
WOW!!! U Go Sis!!! This is VERY inspirational... I been thinking about taking that big chop but I've been nervous to do so but u have done a FANTASTIC job :)
Do check out my fotki albums, I have documented my hair growth on a MONTH-BY-MONTH basis. Hope it clears any doubt. wwwfotkicom/Sera25 & wwwfotkicom/Sera252

You have some AMAZING hair!! OMG, I'm trying to grow out my hair and it used to grow so fast but now. . . idk I need to know what you're doing to make your hair grow so strong and beautifully.
I am growing my hair and it is 3 weeks old starting Tuesday. I am completely shaved low... Like a boy cut. I am doing all I can as far as research and preparation to have beautifully healthy hair. I want to make sure my hair has the best advantages and opportunity to have optimum results as it grows. I'm grateful for your video because your hair texture is like mine yet you manage it wonderfully. Not many say it's possible nor show the effort to prove otherwise... Except u. Very motivating:)
1- What products do you think have really helped your hair grow? I would like to get to your length by next year.
2- I saw in your fotki that you have used Shikakai (known for strengthening and growing hair) Do you still use it? Regardless, what do you think of it and what are the reasons why you would/would not recommend it?
3- Did you have any kind of moral/spiritual support or some types of set goals when you were growing it?

So inspiring, I think I have 4b/4c hair and I keep downing myself because I didn't think it grew down like 4a. BOY WAS I WRONG! Last relaxed was on May 7th and I plan on BCing early next year!
I AM SO JEALOUS!!!! YOU AND YOUR HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL!!!! I've been growing my hair for 7 years...I haven't grown it to the length I want it yet....Looking at some of you beautiful ladies keeps me from not getting a shaved mohawk!!!! lol
One of my best friends has just had her big chop and has a similar texture to you. I cant wait to show her this video she will be so encouraged... Thanks for uploading.
@Sera2544 whateva to people who don't understand that with proper care, hair can achieve great lengths. my hair was the same length as yours at 6 months. I believe you. I love your hair accessories! keep up the good work.
Hi gal, love your hair. The best part of watching was where it all began. I think the Lord wanted to use you as an inspiration to black women who struggle with hair growth. Whats more convincing is that you are 100% black unlike mixed race blacks who dont have the wooly textured challenge to disprove those who say black hair cannot grow. Mine's on the way to that length. Thanks and God bless.
Hi Sera. What kind of styles did you do with your TWA? I have about 3 inches and I usually wear braidouts or twist outs. Did you ever use extensions to braid your hair? I'm thinking about box braids...
can you do a demo on the hairsticks. I can't seem to do it. I have these pretty hairsticks I got as a gift and I don't have a clue to how to use it. I look on other videos but I need a 4b hair tutorial PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! :)
I'm curious to know if your hair ever reached this point when you were relaxing (or before your journey)? I'm back to my original "relaxing length", and now the question is will it get longer, which time will tell of course...
This is truly inspirational!!! Btw I think you'd get more hits and inspire more women by putting 'natural hair journey' or 'natural hair growth' in the title :). Especially for people who still believe kinky hair can't grow :) (just a thought).
LOOOOOOOVELY! If my hair was at the same stage I would have CONSTANT hand in hair syndrome! hehe. You have beautiful hair and like others have said, thanks so much for this video because it is sooo inspiring
loving it .. i just did that big chop not 10 minutes ago... i'm not gon lie i look like amber rose lol jk can't wait till it grows back and i'm like long hair don't care... nice vid
Hello :) what did you do to your hair to grow it out so long? I have been on my journey going on year two and it still hasn't hit the shoulders. I wash, deep condition, and keep it in braids. I just don't get it.
OMG, this brought tears to my eyes. I must be such a big baby but as a transitioning black woman, it hurts so mch how brainwashed we've all been in regards to everything about us. Our skin's too dark, our lips too big, our hair too nappy that it can't even grow... you are a HUGE inspiration. I've been transitioning for two months and I hope in 5 years my hair will be like yours.
This is so inspiring. I'm 18 and I'm starting to transition to natural. I wasn't brave enough to do the big chop so I'm going to cut the relaxed ends until I'm comfortable with the natural length. My mother thinks that black women cannot grow their hair down their backs and if they do, they're mixed with Hispanic or Indian blood. I'm going to show her this video when she wakes up!
Sera, I have to say that out of all the different video's on natural hair care, yours have truly been an inspiration. What's weird is some people have bought into the belief for so long that black people cannot grow long hair, which is so sad. If more woman would give half as much time and effort taking care of their hair instead of weaves, it will be healthy and grow. I know that I've spent years hating and damaging mine. But now I love it and embrace each strand.
I don't know how much clearer I can get...it is evident by this video & all of my other videos not to mention my monthly documentation of my hair journey/growth that this is MY hair - it's definitely NOT a weave as I DO NOT wear weaves & prefer not to. Feel free to check out my albums: wwwfotkicom/Sera252 & wwwfotkicom/Sera25
@nia7g If you had looked at all the videos she has on here, not to mention all of the subscribers on here who have watched her document her growth, you would realize how lazy it is of you to make that stupid request. She has videos on here of herself washing her hair, rolling her hair, twisting her hair etc. Not to mention that this video is almost 2 years old, and here you come asking for proof now? Go sit down somewhere.
Your hair is very long and beautiful!! I love your videos so inspirational! Iv'e been relaxing, braiding, and weaving my hair for years!! Now I'm going natural and have been transitioning for 3 months going on 4! For once, I want to grow my hair out with no chemicals and want healthy growing hair!
Wow ur hair is beautiful!!!! What did you use for your hair to grow that fast in the first year.? I did my BC almost a month ago and that same day I did a sew in. I use pure jamaican castor oil its great but what do u use?
Nothing in particular; I tried various commercial products trying to find what worked for my hair & then I started experimented with mixing my own oils.
@juelilh There are no tricks or products tha will make your hair grow fast. Its an investment of time. The Number one thing is patience, followed by propper hair care techniques. That's all it is. Just enjoy your hair at whatever length it is and before you know it a few years have past and you have a head of healthy abundant hair. All the long hair divas you see on youtube represent an investment of time and loving care to achieve their length.
@Sera2544 Patience, Diligence, and let's not forget Genetics...Sera you have some immense locs flowing off your head chica. I mean in a year, you've pushed passed the averages. It's no wonder that you have hip length now. It's beautiful too. Glad that I've found you.
By far the most inspirational video for natural hair Ive ever come across.. its been six months since my big chop and every time i need some inspiration of what the future holds for my hair journey i look at this video, thank you so much for such a beautiful compilation, as well as your dedication to hair health, it is inspirational to me :D
Wow! I am impressed and motivated after going thru your fotki. I think you and I have the same hair texture(s) but my loose (very few) is in the back. I have curls mix but most to not clump because of my many z patterns. I love your hair. My mom's hair use to be that length in her 20s but now she keeps it very short. Btw, I think I just found a new addict (aside from under shirts and long sleeves t-shirts): hair sticks and forks. You wear them so well. Mes felicitations. Tres Belle.
FINALLY!!!! I've been searching for someone that has went from big chop to your length of hair. I have been natural for 6 years, but unfortunately my hair is no where near you length due to improper care of my hair. Hopefully in the next 3-5 yrs I can obtain some more length. Your hair is beautiful and inspiring!!!!
wow thats amazing your hair is so beautiful i love it i recently did the big chop i was wondering what kind of product you were using to get your hair to grow so nicely
absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for sharing your achievement.

Due to shrinkage the more length I attain the more harder to maintain, especially being that my hair tangles easily.

Hello :) what did you do to your hair to grow it out so long? I have been on my journey going on year two and it still hasn't hit the shoulders. I wash, deep condition, and keep it in braids. I just don't get it.
lahana2244 10 months ago
OMG, this brought tears to my eyes. I must be such a big baby but as a transitioning black woman, it hurts so mch how brainwashed we've all been in regards to everything about us. Our skin's too dark, our lips too big, our hair too nappy that it can't even grow... you are a HUGE inspiration. I've been transitioning for two months and I hope in 5 years my hair will be like yours.
bubblebum333 10 months ago

But now I love it and embrace each strand.

nia7g 11 months ago
@nia7g
Sera2544 10 months ago 9
@nia7g Why would she need to do that? That is such an ignorant request. This is obviously her hair.
dominicaalexia1 10 months ago
@nia7g What an idiot you are.
ananse77 9 months ago
@nia7g If you had looked at all the videos she has on here, not to mention all of the subscribers on here who have watched her document her growth, you would realize how lazy it is of you to make that stupid request. She has videos on here of herself washing her hair, rolling her hair, twisting her hair etc. Not to mention that this video is almost 2 years old, and here you come asking for proof now? Go sit down somewhere.

Wow ur hair is beautiful!!!! What did you use for your hair to grow that fast in the first year.? I did my BC almost a month ago and that same day I did a sew in. I use pure jamaican castor oil its great but what do u use?
juelilh 11 months ago
@juelilh
Nothing in particular; I tried various commercial products trying to find what worked for my hair & then I started experimented with mixing my own oils.
Sera2544 11 months ago
@juelilh There are no tricks or products tha will make your hair grow fast. Its an investment of time. The Number one thing is patience, followed by propper hair care techniques. That's all it is. Just enjoy your hair at whatever length it is and before you know it a few years have past and you have a head of healthy abundant hair. All the long hair divas you see on youtube represent an investment of time and loving care to achieve their length.

Thanks for the videos.
