@LoveYoshiClan Not really, i wont be before i return to Sandberg in a month or so to adjust the prototype. You will however get some videos with the protype before that:-)
I love my bass like I love my woman. And I wouldn't like a woman that looks old and used unless she has become old and used by me. For the rest: much respect for you and all the work you do for all the bassplayers in the world DK. Merry Xmas to you and may you enjoy this bass very much.
I really love this series of video's. Well done MarloweDK and Sandberg, I'm seriously thinking of buying a MarloweDK signature bass when it's finally released. Lookin goooooood :-)
Great stuff and it'll be based upon your best looking bass too. Will you be going for the vintage fretboard radius? I like sandbergs, but their standard flat fingerboards are a huge turn off for me, I like the vintage fender curve..
Wow. I am loving this whole process. Sandberg make great basses. I must admit I love the finished results of the ageing process - road worn instruments have so much character - but I hate watching it happen. Its almost painful seeing someone beat up a perfect piece of wood. Bizarre!
The sticker on the front of the bass body could be used in the DK on the headstock. The K could like K<<<<. I cant make right on here, but that will give you an idea of what Im talking about if you are interested. Congrats on the bass.
I was wincing all throughout this video. Inside I was going, "Nooo! Please stop! Dear Lord, please, make him stop!" I'm obviously in the opposite camp on this custom-aging issue. =)
One question that comes to mind is: would the worn-out, aged look reduce the chances of theft?
I like the used and abused look. It has served me well in the past. Kudos to you sir on the daunted task of creating such a fine specimen of a bass. It sounds great too. I have to admit without a doubt it's one of the best basses I've heard.
Sandberg, seem like good guys there ... interesting, looks like a red aged FenderDK ... or a Danish Faux-Fender ... looking forward to hearing you play this beast when it's finished :)
Marlowe why do you like bashed up basses !!! when i get i small ding on my basses i cry ohhh no lol i so pose it s personal taste i myself like a new shiny bass i think it does the bass more justice in the craftsmanship but that's me any way Marlowe good luck with you new axe i hope it lives up to your high standards .
another question to sandberg ,,as your in sweeden ,, why dont you simply recycle basses or introduce a range of recycled instrument or parts? ,,its looks ecco unfriendly to see rich people trying to make their products look second hand ,my bass cost 35 pounds i cant afford a New Bass if you fathom my drift ,,,so you named your bass the red barron ,,i wonder voltz ,,the red imperial player ponders ,, ??,, did you work on any of the aolian fractions yet?
Far better job than fender road worn series.Sandberg company has a growing reputation and let's hope they will keep their top quality standards of handmade instruments.
Fender instruments are really too expensive considering the way they are made...even if I have one lol
I came here to see a bass being made. Looks more like a bass being wrecked. I understand some people like that sort of thing, but it's not for me. I take care of my instruments and when I pick out a new one I want it to look new and shiny like the eyes of a puppy begging you to bring him home with you.
that and a lot of musicians perfer vintage basses for the sound..so if they copy the look maybe it can pass for a vintage bass made before..hmm..1970 or so? This isn't the route I would take but I know my custom Mike Lull bass will sound better and better through the years..that's why it's the ONLY instrument I'll ever need.
@elbowrinkles Its based roughly on the specs and looks of one of my older favorite basses, and since the guys at Sandberg are good at relicing I thought it could be fun to make it look like that. Dont dispair, you will be able to buy it new and shiny if thats your preference;-)
How is it fake? It's not artificial scratches, or dents, or tobacco stains, it's just accelerated. A lot of us like the look of aged basses, but we don't want to wait 50 years to have one.
@elbowrinkles Well, sometimes instruments that look old and worn tend to give it character, like it's been through hell and back and still sounds damn good.
