  • even unplugged they sound really good!

  • this is just the best show ever

  • The weekend started here

  • ooo this so reminds me of my childhood days, time has moved on too fast. so wish I could turn the clocks back ...thank you for uploading this

  • 16 people should just die.

  • i wonder if they are playing live .. because this is a good performance here.. i do remember in an interview paul saying that in germany in their early years..the p.a. sucked and they had to shout all the time

  • @klepetar No microphones. I think they're miming, though the Beatles were very capable live, particularly before 1966 when the screaming fans ruined their motivation.

  • THAT BRITISH ACCENT... it's brilliant!!!

  • wtf

  • what the hell

  • George was a charmer bigtime :)

  • on the first day god made man on the second day he made 54321

  • Dave Clark ...Give the people thier Ready Steady Go back, You may own it legally but it belongs to us.

  • @allybound Actually, Dave Clark has passed on. Dave Clark Five had quite a few hits.

  • @jimidee33 Dave Clark is alive

  • @schultz970 I thought I'd heard he was deceased. My mistake. Thanks for the correction.

  • I'll pay 6/9 for that - six shillings and nine pence, roughly 38p in today's money, or 3 million drachma

  • george you are my favorite....

  • wow that was so gear

  • THATS THE REAL PAUL McCARTNEY!!!!!!!!!!

  • TODAYS MUSIC GLORIFYS MONEY AND THE "ARTIST" DOING SO IS QUITE ALIVE.

  • THAT LAST PART HAD TO BE A THREAT.

  • That was a groundbreaking year, as invisible microphones had just hit the scene.

  • @brazenhubris its not live.

  • Quick question: When did Ready Steady Go! start having live performances? The Beach Boys played live on Nov. 6, 1964.

  • @sirpaisley What usually happened was the performance was recorded live but then they mimed to it for the broadcast. For better sound quality I should imagine. Even when The Beatles did Hey Jude on David Frost they were miming. But the mikes were on, so they could sing live also. Confusing? Watch Hey Jude and you'll note Johnmissing his cue to sing, but he's singing on the track!

  • @douglasamarshall Interesting. I can imagine a lot of sound problems with all of the screaming girls and the bad quality monitors of the day. I just didn't notice any mics in this performance.

  • I love john's face at 8:33, he looks so surprised XD

  • I remember watching this on the Disney Channel....

  • One of the best guitar performances ever by John Lennon on the first song ("You Can't Do That").... great to watch The Beatles in their hayday (even if it IS a lip synch)

  • Comment removed

  • 6/9 Classic which means 6 schillings and 9 pence...which is about 25p

  • We were in elementary school and one of the guys wore some beatle boots to school and was sent home. his mother and father came back and he was back that afternoon :D. it was a struggle during these years kinds. later.

  • What, they were only numbers 1-4? Must have been in a slump.

  • xD

    the beatles show tv

  • uh I watched this clip when I was 10, and I wondered how could John's eye brows so thick (look 6:02 and 6:36) and now I'm still wondering lol

  • George Harrison was such a sexpot and so is Paul!

I love Beatle banter. George was such an adorable boy with thick wavy hair like Harold Sr. and boy, did that Beatle look like Louise French in this video.

  • This is so damn fun! I wish I had a COOOOOOOOOOL 1961 Ford Falcon with my COOOOOL dial set to KBEA 1964 AM listening to some of the best music under the sun! Like a Ford Falcon, the Beatles are beautiful; classic and BETTER IDEAS! I just LOVE them! And I love their beautiful hair. I love Beatle coiffure.

  • Oh dear god, George from 3:55 to 5:50

    Amazing.

    <3

  • Although the lip sync is basically useless, I love the George interview.

  • Comment removed

  • Epic playback! xD =D

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • god he is so adorable

  • @mlopez39 He was quiet one who never shut up his mouth,he was serious one who was hysterically funny Eric Idle about,He wasnt quiet,it was just myth, his sister also said it,He was thinker, and he seemed to be quiet, cuse John,Paul were louder, but he wasnt quiet..No one friends of him wouldnt be agree with that

  • George wrote to mom in age 24,I want be self, realised,I dont care of material world,I want find GOD,It is my life goal..This wrote in such young age..and Olivia said, when somebody asked him He was The beatle,he just answered yes I used be in band,he didnt pay big deal for it,Olivia even said he loved be with guys, and wit people, but he hate journalists, and gossips ,and that rush time around them,George is sweetest person ever, who never looked for material things, with great sense of humor, rare man

  • whats the first tune called?

  • @liamjoul "You Can't Do That" It's on the A Hard Day's Night album

    :)

  • george really got the spotlight in this. thank god, we need more of this! :)

  • I sure did, Isle!

George Harrison was such a sexpot! You've just got to love the man's beautiful wavy hair!

  • This is awesome! Thank you for posting. I love it that George pays tribute to his favorite albums by Motown artists like The Miracles, Marvin Gaye, The Impressions. Did anyone else catch that little piece of Music History there?

  • where are the microphones??

  • I love how he says "love" :D

  • Perfect song to 'mash potato' to!!!

  • well at least my generation got to watch aqua on top of the pops...

  • this is how it should be: no screaming.

  • LOL George is going crazy over "Drive-In Movies". That's funny. I don't think drive-in's even exist anymore. I could be wrong.

  • BeatleMania!!! Wow!!! Hard to believe this was over 45 years ago!!! I was probably 2 years ago when this show was aired. Great to be able to watch the Beatles on their great TV performances.

  • MANFRED MANN!

  • Now i carnt stop saying 54321!

  • 16 people have no souls

  • @1939PlymouthRatRod You spelled it wrong! Wow who do you screw that up!

  • George the shy Beatle?? MY ASS!! He's a charmer!! :)

  • i hate how john never let anyone record him playing his solo for you cant do that

  • cant buy me love is a great song..and i love the beatles recording of it...they have such a great groove between drums and guitar on that record...i have seen paul play it a number of times in his solo shows..but the drummer cant get ringo's groove...i dont know why but it never sounds as good as the record...cant buy me love is a great great record..very exciting..never gets old...

  • i love the bass and drum line on "can't buy me love."

  • 13 people are soul-less gits

  • 5:06 Haha , George is amazingg ! <33

  • 2:11 Mann i love Ringo's little head bobb . ! (:

  • @IDLERACER 3/28/11: Great commentary for us RIC 12 fans. While one scouts around other videos of the era, really, quite a few other groups were picking up on them, both the 12 & the 6. See the Knickerbockers, & "Every Mother's Son" , The Turtles, The Hollies, etc. If anyone posesses one of those early RIC12's, they probably could sell it, and retire for the rest of their lives! Happy jingle-jangle 2 U.

  • @Msemospongebob bass

  • @mikeoooze oh yeah i wasn't thinking straight thnx

  • but this is playback

    wtf

  • 47 years ago today this performance aired... HAPPY 47TH ANNIVERSARY!!!

  • Cant buy me luv, thats an acoustic song, but there werent any acoustic :D:D:D

ANYWAY BEATLES IS MYYYY LIIIIIIIIIFE :)

  • where's the mic ? :D:D:D::D

  • nadie se dio cuenta de que estan haciendo playback? ajjaja...

  • Check out this new You Tube sensation - they're called the Beatles. They just might hit it big like Justin Beiber. All they need to is get millions of screaming teenage fans and create a manic type mania around the world. (Sarcasm, for some who don't get it.)

  • mime??

  • It was just easier to have groups lip sync the songs for a television broadcast. Some tv studios weren't equipted for all the complicated microphone placement and mixing required to pull it off. Plus I'm sure some of the groups would rather lip sync than risk sounding bad because of a incompetent sound man.

  • @Tickbryan I totally agree with you. Do you think that the Beach Boys turned to lip syncing ? I know that this is a Beatles site, but I just asked myself that question. The Beatles were N° 1, in the UK, and the Beach Boys were N°1 in the USA

  • @misstsarina , i've seen the old Beech Boys footage where they were lip syncing. If they played on American Bandstand they lip synced, because that's the only way Bandstand did it.

  • @misstsarina , also, the Beech Boys weren't #1 for long after the Beatles invaded the USA.

  • Lip sync..... the Beach Boys did it live.

  • @wabbitinwed

As much as I hate to, I agree, these are too similar to the studio versions....

  • How ironic that George is being interviewed by Cathy McGowan, the inspiration for the ficyional Susan Camphy, "the posh bird who gets everything wrong".

  • what is the song they are singing???

  • You must be a young pup then.

  • George looks terrified by being surrounded by the estrogen ocean

  • Why do I recognise this '5 4 3 2 1' song when I never saw this show?

  • @JamspongeVideo It was hit song by the Manfred Mann band(Paul Jones lead singer)

  • @frankns

Ah, perhaps it was on the radio at some point. I'm making it sound like I was around when this show was on, I wasn't.

  • I think 08:34 when John is genuinely surprised is not something you saw often of The Beatles. Here they were just getting used to the fame.

  • what i want to know is why none of the girls near them didn't cling to their legs like static electricity and never let go until they got an autograph or.... yeah

  • Great show, great memories.

  • I love how at the beginning of the song John seems like he's looking at someone.

  • @dmenkhau He actually wasn't looking at someone. He had just started wearing contacts and you had to gradually increase the time you wore them each day and he was always looking at the floor because the light was too harsh on them and hurt his eyes. :p

  • @bladesofglory12 Oh thank you :)

  • 8:34 I love John's surprised face!

  • @llamawalrus lmao

  • 0:40 Intro :D

  • the way George says 'love'

omg...... i love these boys so much. <3 they'll always be in my heart.

  • margaret rutherford....!!! LMAO !! why was this man taken from us... miss u george, the world is a colder, more boring place without you.

  • A little piece of my soul dies inside everytime I see Justin Bieber mentioned on Beatle videos. Ugh. Anyways, Thanks for putting this up! I love George! Long live The Beatles!

  • @jedimiss ok... then just don't mention him.

  • @jedimiss which is what you're doing right now.... ugh...

  • @mizmarymack GREAT comment.

  • @jedimiss i feel the same, but you JUST mentioned him...

  • longest intro ever? just sayin.

  • @Scouslan Lol, I got it, you can count down from 5

  • beatles lip syncing??? no microphones, whats up with that?

  • @Devbomb37 yes, they usually always lip synced on TV shows

  • @Devbomb37 yes, they usually always lip synced on TV shows, except Ed Sullivan of course, that was live, but little shows like this they lip synced

  • I cant help but smile when George says `love`

  • Looks like John nearly fell over at the end there.

  • @Feisty1967 Nah, that's just John dancing. He loved dancing, and always pulled off little moves like that in some interviews and concerts.

  • They featured George! Very cool!

  • As soon as George said "private" films, he knew exactly what everyone was thinking. Love George!

  • George was so happy here. :) He just seems like he's in a really great mood.

  • Great to see Ready Steady Go remembered on here. It was a major part of the sixties for my generation growing up back then. And essential viewing on those Friday nights for all pop music lovers of that time.

  • the audio isnt live

  • what a wanker dick clark ; [

  • The night they appeared on Ed Sullivan I was 11 years old. And a friend that was watching with us (cause his family did not have a TV) said "they won't last six months in this country" Never lived it down. Whenever we get together at reunions we always remind him of his totally stupid statement!

  • @songman1955 How longs this band been out? They copied Justin Biebers hairstyle, but the music is different than biebers.

  • @NSA666999 ...you mean Bieber copied them, right? This band, known as the Beatles to most people, has been 'out' since 1963. They broke up in 1970 and are rock legends...I really hope your comment was just a troll, because if not...you...just...make me *facepalm*

  • @NSA666999 Haha now that is funny. You do realize that Justin Bieber is much younger than these guys. Why did you think it was in black and white? And they wouldnät need to copy Justin Bieber to get somehwre it this world, they made music history.

  • @Ecclipze I did not know that. I thought not having color was the latest thing, started by apples computers. I will check out what you said thow to see if you are lying

  • @NSA666999 Do that. These awesome musicians were born in the 1940's....

  • @Ecclipze good answer,OMG Beatles stolen Biebers haircut,I laugh so hard, can be NSA666999 more stupid OMG

  • @NSA666999 already you searched it,LOL,Bieber was in his father eggs, when Beatles changed world,by their haircut, dresses, songs, opinios on war, piece etc,

  • @Ecclipze just ask how old are you,Bieber cant be even mention in one sentence with Beatles,Bieber is nothing.

  • @NSA666999 OMG you are such stupid,Bieber lives now, they were band in 1958-1970,so how they might copy Bieber haircut OMG,how old are you

  • 7:56 a 7:59 look john kkk

  • Brilliant...........

  • suprised there's no girls screaming, I guess that's a good thing since you can hear their music for once

  • Worst T.V. show theme song, ever.

  • Is this live or a lip-sing? The songs sound identical with the studio recordings.

  • @yizhan123 are you on crack?

  • @pyroclasticflow64 What crack?

  • @yizhan123 ilp-synch

  • This performance (from the spring of 1964) was probably the first time a Rickenbacker electric 12-string was ever captured on film. By the end of that year, almost every lead guitarist of note had one. Pete Townshend, Carl Wilson, Roger McGuinn. The president of the company handing a free one over to George while he was in the states a couple of months earlier, was probably the most brilliant marketing move of all time.

  • @IDLERACER which one? the 360(George) or the 325(John)?

  • 5:06 I cant stop giggling XD Pew pew..

  • Comment removed

  • @Petertunes nopee, probably not. they're miming to their records.

  • hahahaha 1 2 3 AND 4 in Americas top ten!! yeh beatles are shit, rubbish, over-rated hahaha, 'APPY BURFDAY LENNON YOU SCOUNDREL X

  • am i the only one who repeatedly watches George say, "James Bond, cck cck." over and over again?<3

    George...*o*

  • @MsMadiMonster haha, i could listen to that all day!! ; )

  • when Lennon looked normal before transforming into a long beaked bird when he met the witch Ono.

  • Love it... love it... love it!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My Life for Being There!!!!!!!!!

  • i thought this was the beatles on ready steady cook :( lolz

  • They were allowed to be so close to them! Those lucky girls!

  • Back in the sixties lip-sync was the norm on TV (easier for producers, though often tracks were pre-recorded rather than just the record).. In fact Ready Steady Go was the first English TV pop show to go live - later in 64 I think, but after the Beatles' various appearances on the show. Actually its the norm now if you think about it (most music videos!). And, heck, wouldn't you rather see the Beatles up close and miming than not at all?

  • Must have been really weird for the kids in the audience to be brought in thinking they were going to see the Beatles, only to have to hear piped in music and watch the greatest band in the world lip sync a foot away from them. Then again, maybe they didn't feel as weird as the Beatles did having to pose like this.

  • The Drive In movie theaters the Beatles liked so much are pretty much gone from America

  • @edkollin So is everything else from my youth, it seems. They could have a drive in, I guess..but the people working there wouldn't know how to speak english and someone would probably mug you..or you'd get caught in crossfire or step on a meth head in restroom. Then the neighbors would complain of the noise (there's no more open space near towns) the movie production houses would yell they're not making enough money and we'd pay 16 dollars each to eat the garbage they serve. I prefer memories..

  • I<3 GEORGE HARRISON!!!

  • LOL that lipsyncing sucks

  • Probably the best pop TV show of is own or any time. The bands, the clothes, the new-ness and inventing-as-we-go-along attitude of that time. The show went out live on early Friday evening. The mods and wannabe-mods watched it religiously ("The Weekend Starts Here" was its slogan). It only lasted three years or so but it really really mattered to England's youth culture.

  • @QuarryBanksy This show should have aired in America, but probably didn't because by 1964, ABC, CBS and NBC were beginning to convert from black-and-white to color (NBC was mostly color by '64; ABC and CBS would convert over the next couple of years).

Had this show been taped in color, it's very likely one of the three American networks would have picked it up.

But since it was in black-and-white, it didn't air in the 'States until reruns aired on cable's Disney Channel in the mid 1980's.

  • J'adore READY STEADY GO

  • Can you imagine being there and dancing away 1 foot away from John Lennon??? That interview was so cute! I bet Cathy got asked out a lot by the band! I wonder where she is today??

  • I had to be born in 1997. :/

  • @4:23 They didn't have Drive-in movies in England ?

  • 3:54.....so much for the "silent" Beatle then.....

  • @PAULLONDEN It doesn't really matter, does it? Besides...they asked him questions, he has to answer them.

  • i could watch George do his James Bond impression-thing all day.<3

  • More cowbell!

  • Ringo at 7:01 to 7:09. :)

  • I love George's voice-- talking AND singing!

  • omg George is so adorable , 8:39 <3
