  • "Small audiences of artists and bohemians in loft spaces and galleries in the major East and West coast cities were the only people to see these films."

My dad organized a screening of Windsong back when he was in college at Wichita. Take THAT, documentary people.

He was all ready to go off and study with Parch too, but he went and died. Stupid Harry Partch, dying all the time.

  • everything this man did sucked. Not even close. He's just a bum trying to make a quick buck.

  • One or the greatest irl trolls of all time!

  • He was the first Blue Man Group in terms of visual performance!

  • shame there isn't higher quality audio of these amazing sounds

  • To all of the posts who think that what he does is easy,i really dont know what to say.i suggest listening Hal Wilner's weird Nightmare wher they play Mingus with H.Partch instruments.

  • 3:22- The Sideburns of Ultimate Death!!!

  • @Bass5el i think that's Danlee Mitchell.

  • i wont be putting any of this on my ipod but its kinda cool how some of the music sounds like its almost alive. like animal noises or something. must be very difficult to notate.

  • ......music to go mad by?......

  • After seeing this I'm convinced the famous duel between Kirk and Spock on the original Star Trek series was influenced by Partch.

  • Before I read this comment, I thought the same thing.

  • the sounds from his instruments sound almost oriental, like japanese or chinese, or buddhist lol

  • I hear lots of gamelan in there...

  • @Bass5el

Definitely a heavy gamelan influence. Part gamelan part Partch :)

  • Harry Partch. A man with a vision! I wish I could have met him.

  • i had no idea Partch had done stuff on Anger films, that's awesome..

  • Amelia1965:

Yes, maybe it may sound like shit but that's a lot of work and complex thinking to make a piece of shit...and besides he might think that today's pop music is all shit...music is subjective..

  • Modern, complex music (and art) really does take more effort and more thinking and planning than the kind of classic music (or art) that we're used to. I'm actually shocked and disappointed that they DIDN'T teach for example about Partch in music academy. Amelia, don't stay inside the box your education puts you to. There's so many things to learn and to discover - think for yourself, not according to a pattern you learn from school or from society.

  • It sounds like you have studies a very select and blinkered perception of what "music" is.

  • to each their own. One man's trash is another man's treasure. I'm sure you would be happy to listen to some manufactured pop garbage, or something else you have been trained to accept as music. I suggest you dose 500 micrograms and call me in a week.

  • This was a man who made no compromises...amazing.

  • Thorougly worthwhile look into the mind of a genius, thank you!
