to all you people trying to make hay for your conservative causes out of the demise of the anthracite industry, look up Johnny Mitchell, Lattimer Massacre or 1902 Anthracite Coal Strike on Wikipedia. These people are miners because its in their blood. It is the big energy companies using the government to put them under, not the UMWA or the democratic party. There is a big difference between these people and assholes like Blankenship and Massey. These are decent working people.
@travishumphrey: What the hell are you trying to spit out? Incoherent babbling. I worked Union (UMWA)for a decade, and our Union Mine ran for over 40 years, setting production records and brings hundreds of MILLIONS of tons out of the ground. Our UNION miners worked their butts off to get the coal. Our UNION miners saved the mine from fire disaster three times. Go to hell, but learn to read and write before you do.
@madisonhack you only vote democrat if you don't want to work. if you actually work for a living and manage to scratch a few cents off a rock the democrats will take it from you and give it to someone thats supposedly 'disabled'.
Most coments are that Union men are lasz, well bud I'm union and I'll work most any man under the table seven days a week. I worked both nonunion for years and now union and there are just as many lazy nonunion men as there are lazy union men.
Governments are good for one thing only, fucking people in the ass and taxing them for the privilege. I'm not in the mining industry or in the US, but if Unions are anything like the ones in Australia, they're not much better than the Government.
Hey guys, it's real simple. Democrats or Republicans doesn't matter. You see we now import a trilion dollars worth of oil from overseas. This money alot of which is turned around and reinvested in Wall Street and in Washington elections. The oil industry has been hard at work for years, making the country dependent on oil And they want to keep it that way. Get rid of American coal, that's the end of the railroads with it. Then passenger rail, that sells more cars etc.
the Unions need to quit holding hands wit the Democratic party and work for the good of the Union the democrats will fuck em and so will the republicans, property rights peoples rights, idividual power over the corporation vote libertarian
God Bless ya for your comment.I've been a teamster most of my life until recently when I was fired from my job.The union wouldnt even come in and represent me.I cant understand how people in the union can see what the democrats have become, and still vote for them.I said this pass election if the union coal miners vote for Obama, they will vote themselves right out of work.LOOK AT WHATS HAPPENING!Democrats dont care about us.They care about abortion, anti god movements, and gay rights anymore.
true, i'm pro-union but they need to get away from politics and government, my cousins union supported Obama, did the regular union labor guys vote for it no, it was chose by the Union leaders to support him
I myself am a miner and just to see those MSHA fucks come in and write outragous fines for shit as stupid as someone not wearing saftey googles, how stupid. I do utilities on a split air unit an run entries 1-5. they usually keep curtains up so the CM doesn't tear them down going in. Well I dropped my curtains which is only 4 cuz cm was n entry 3 an saved my mine $48,000 cuz Feds came n. other side got fined, Im also a pumpkin head :)
Im not a miner, but I want to ask you,do you see how the democrats claim to be for the working man are constantly fucking over the coal miners?I know the republicans are idiots to,but they dont have the working class brainwashed like the democrats. The democrats dont represent me at all. They are controlled by extreme leftist who care about every special interest group before the working class family.I think we will litterally have to spill blood in the streets to get control of our country again.
true, just like what my people did in matewan and blair mountain, this country is going to sht in many different ways, if the dems are goin to do wat they really want to do they will fuck the whole industry, dems have fucked the coal fields with welfare programs, shit almost everybody my age is addicted to pain killers thanks to welfare
I got news for u I work my ass off and I'm UMWA buddy. it's u guys that have hurt us.like massey. U half to sign a three year contract with them and half to pay it back if ya Quit. work 7 damn days a week. come on. I work 6 day reg.
Question?; as a coal miner, why would I want to be union and let my company go under because I am lazy and cry 24/7?. Production is money. I still today thank the union 40 years ago, but now there is a thing called "goverment regulations". yet As you call me a "Scab", my company requires me to do things by regulations legal and not the whining. Reminder: Coal mining is tough and always will be. and if you want to keep a job in this industry, Work your butt off sissy. The UMWA now is not helping
@TravisHumphreyslife I'm a uinion man ans was once a nonunion man. I worked at one of the biggest nonunion mines in pa, and there were just as man lazy men there as there is at the union mine I work at.
@TravisHumphreyslife I am a UMWA miner up in Canada... I can see why you feel the way you do about unions... where I work, most of the people are there to get coal and as much as we can every shift... some hide behind the collective agreement and make us all look bad... but also, with the company I work for the union mines consistently out produce the non union mines.
hey if u had a grocerie store,ok,what if the goverment walked in and said were shutting u down becuase they want the money to go strait 2 them u just lost what u put food on the table with same with the family mines the gov. wants the money and they guna get it... sad sad, no wonder the homeless rate is going up
Everytime the GOP gets in office..the economy nosedives due to their non-stop support of wealthy corporations and tax cuts and credits for the wealthy..yet they will fight to the death to keep minimum wage from rising. The coal companies do not care for the miners and they have brainwashed the miners into thinking that the democrats will hurt coal..which is idiotic, the democrats want safer mines and clean coal(which is the future). Massey shut down mines for a decade waiting for the right price
Massey will shut them down again when the price falls far enough. Yeah, unions hurt themselves but at least the miners had a voice..they have none now. They are subjected to nicotine test(Massey)which is nothing more than the company telling them how to live their home lives. It is slowly going back to the days of the company telling the miners when to shit, shower and shave. Sad times are coming if some of these people dont wake up to the evil that is the coal operators. I grew up in Appalachia.
those big corps r trying to get it all for them selves.... getting coal out of the mountain is like trying to get water out of a stream or getting rock for ur house foundation they can go fuck them selves i say let them dig
This is just the trailer ... the documentary itself gets into the economic-political issues surrounding US coal production and squeezing out small, independent producers ... and also the role of the government in driving these producers to their knees. Well worth catching if it comes to an independent film festival near you!
while i am a firm believer in the benefits of coal, and live in the anthracite area of northeast PA, i have to say that this looks hardly like a documentary, and more like an advertisement. perhaps the full length movie explores more than one side, but that is not evident in the trailer.
Obama wants to kill coal this is true
