The last battery comprises lithium, a metal of the alkali group in the periodic table. This family comprises sodium, potassium, etc. The alkali metals react vigorously with water, hence the 'pièce de résistance'. However I wouldn't say that it is worse for the environement than the others... I would even argue that the heavy metal residues (such as cadmium) that come from tossing the other kinds of battery are worse.
@kylemispel Well that is true. However, I then took these solutions and tested them on plants. The Nickel-Cadmium plants stayed alive for about 2 weeks. The Lithium plants were shriveled dust within a couple days.
@BenjiFester I agree, the free market in America is ruthless and uncaring at times. Nevertheless, it's important that people know what are the consequences of an exposed battery like that. Makes ya not want to just toss that batter in the trash ;)
