  • Unlike the sob story bullshit we've seen in movies after the Vietnam era, most soldiers are proud of what they've done to serve their country. They tell weepy stories to get pussy because many women want to believe they were victims because its been a long time since this country was directly threatened in WWII and we've made all killing out to be a bad thing rather than what it really is, which in some cases is a necessary thing. So they tell women and civilians what they want to hear.

  • Richard is a soldier. He's good at what he does. No doubt he was an experienced shooter and hunter prior to the war (grew up in the mid west on a farm). Once he went, he put his skills to use as a sniper and did well. He fucked up and caught one in the head and will never lead the normal life he craves.

  • Though he seems sad and tragic figure, richard is cold blooded murderer, willing to kill anyone who jimmy asks him. He aint typical type sociopathic gangster, he would probly live different kinda life if he had not been in war. Both jimmy & richard are so messed up and dont simply care what they do to other peoples. Love how they both are depicted that they know they are murderers, thieves, bad people but still they can shoot anyone child, woman without feeling any remorse. Its great way to tel

  • The Delesio Brothers were shit bags. Richard is just doing what any sniper does, think of a way to make the target show themselves and when they do take the shot.

  • Once, just once, it would be sweet for a person with an actually traumatic disfigurement, deformity, mental/physical disability, to actually play a role in a major tv series or movie and win the appraisal and any awards. Not just have a very talented actor do it, which Jack Houston is of course, because it would be more challenging for them and rewarding when they win. Oh, that would be a very fine day indeed....

  • @ViceCityVacation : Heath Ledger as Joker. And it was, indeed, a fine day.

  • @rushmiester Did Heath Ledger have a medical condition physical/mental? I didn't know that. I thought he was just drug dependant? Not making fun, I like Heath. But I liked his Joker, even better than him.

  • If he could suggest doing this for people he doesn't care about, what's Richard going to do to Nucky's family once he finds out what Nucky has done?

  • I FUCKING HATE Nucky, hope richard blows his head off.

  • @UnaSolida For some reason, I read this and laughed out loud. I agree with you like 200%, but the blunt delivery of it is priceless! LMAO!!:) My mom laughed too when she read it and she's like 60.

  • @kkarls1 lol thanks and hi kkarls1 mom :)

  • @UnaSolida Uh unfortunately Nuck Nuck beat him to it :( Shame hunh?

  • @ViceCityVacation what? No Nucky killed Jimmy.

  • @UnaSolida Hmm? That's what I said. Lol

  • Best character in the show. In any show. In any show ever. He is the human condition.

  • If i was nucky i would've killed Richard before i even think about touching Jimmy. Next seasons going to to be headshots galore

  • harrow is a good man for a hit, but his complete lack of moral code will be the end of him. he's gonna kill the wrong guy's kid and get popped

  • I am still in love with Harrow even with all the bad stuff he does cause he is so sweet and sad I just want to hug him and tell him that he is adorable and lovable. <3

  • I dont think his method to finding the Delessios shows a lack of heart, but a military approach to finding an enemy. In the military, in war times, on the battlefield, who knows what goes on, what people are ordered to do. Soldiers like Richard and those in Vietnam, etc, were probably ordered to do all kinds of shit they wish they could forget. Kill kids, etc. To Richard, it's probably just war. But he has a huge heart underneath it all, Richard's a noble man, just one broken by what he's seen.

  • I like his ruthlessness but he is one dark, heartless motherfucker. His freaks me out. The way he talks... But hes a good soldier and a great shot. Imagine if he was normal. and i also though he would have relations with Angela. But once a lesbo always a lesbo

  • @slapheadk - He's certainly not heartless. You can see that he yearns for normalcy, but past events and his disfigurement make him feel like an outcast - so he behaves accordingly. Hence the apparent 'heartless' facade.

  • on the second season there is a better scene , he asked jimmy "would you fight for me ?" and jimmy said "yes of course, until the end" very good scene I was very impresionated.

best TV serie ever , if it isnt at least in the last 5 years

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOT THE DENTIST!!!!!!!!!!

  • best character on tv. period.

  • I don't think Jimmy was looking at him thinking what the hell did he bring back with him, I was thinking Jimmy was like " hmmm, sounds like a good idea"!

  • I love Richard Harrow. He's definitly my favorite character. He's gets the job done. Even though he is ruthless you cant help but love him. His character is so mysterious yet so simple. He's awesome.

  • Best character in the series.

  • @SonnyA89 Most definitely. Harrow is the most deep and mysterious character in Boardwalk Empire

  • I have no sympathy for any of these characters. Not even Van Alden

  • I see people calling him a psychopath... He is not even close to being a psychopath as Al Capone is... And I think I'm in love with this character -3

  • Best Character ever.

  • I think Richard is in love with Jimmy's wife... But, he's one cold sniper!!

  • In the 2nd season Capone suggests shooting Nucky instead of the political coup. When Richard said he won't do that, Capone stares intensely and asks, "What do you mean, WON'T?" I don't think Harrow is a psychopath because he understands that there are other ways to do "business". He also longs for a family of his own when we see him making a scrapbook. What I think is that knows what it really takes to be a gangster. In the war, this would be collateral damage and a kill or be killed situation.

  • i think he is a lovable character and quite badass i might add

  • great character, i can see how he bonds with Jimmy, they both came back from the war scarred. Only Richard's are both internal and external.

  • I've seen several people suggest that Richard Harrow is a psychopath. The writers are clearly trying to avoid that label as they develop his personality more and more.

  • i love richard's character so much it's so interesting

  • this g uy and chuckie are my favs

  • @skyiscrying53

    chalky.... ?

  • @131untouchable yes, chalky and richard

  • @131untouchable

    chuckie. the doll.

  • @skyiscrying53 I guess you mean Chalky White right? me too! I like that new Irish dude too. Something Slater.

  • Richard is the most badass character in the show.

  • Fallout should have a dlc made just so he can be in it as the boss and have to go head to head in a sniper battle

  • Harrow is a fantastic, complex character, played perfectly by Huston. I hope we see much more of him this season.

  • Harrow's quite the Doctor Jekyll/Mr Hyde character. For one thing, he's sensitve and seems like a shy guy, but on the other hand, he casually suggested killing four people to draw two others out.

  • 1:15 when i first watched this episode, the doctor's hesitant pause made me believe he was part of the poisoning scheme, lol.

  • WW1 was possibly the most brutal war of all time. A man who'd survived all of that just to get shunned and hideously scarred, it's not surprising he'd have lost all respect for human life.

  • he just wants friends thats all.

  • Richard Harrow's.. Role.. Dangerous...

  • I also like how he goes from awkard turtle to serial killer in about twenty seconds.

  • Harrow is a fuckin beast!!!!!

  • I'm pretty sure Richard is gonna pop off and go nuts next season. Like he's gonna do some crazy shit.

  • i could watch an entire show about harrow

  • @lazy1115 - I agree. Such a minimilist performance by Jack Huston, yet he gains so much empathy despite being a quite ruthless assassin. Huston should have awards coming out of his ears by now.

  • My favorite character...

  • i love richard

  • I think this scene just shows Richard doesn't question the morality of killing anymore. He thinks purely in terms of tactics and practicality.

  • This character so wants to be liked. It takes him to such extremes in behavior.

  • Stuff like that is practically SOP for a sniper.

In wartime, you wound or kill a fellow soldier to make his buddies expose themselves. Harrow is just applying that to peacetime/being a gangster too.

  • @thewandering01 I agree, although that's still pretty cold blooded.

  • Richard Harrow is so awesome! When he was introduced i felt so bad for him, the actor plays it well and the character is so complex! He's becoming a series regular and i hope they give flashbacks on him because he's easily one of my favourites.

  • The fact that Richard says "Um..." (and not in a way to clear his throat, as he often does) right before suggesting that he could leave to go to Philadelphia makes me think that the only reason he is proposing such an intense and malicious idea is because he is desperate to hold on to the only real friend that he has left. I'm not trying to make an excuse for the man, massacring an innocent family is fucked up, but he almost sounds unsure before diving head long into his suggestion. Sad.

  • @HelloThar9

"innocent people" there arent none..... goverment kills "innocent" people all the time

  • @131untouchable

I meant innocent as in innocent to the situation. They had nothing to do with what was going on with the attacks on Nucky & Co.

  • @HelloThar9

but there family did have shit to do with the situation i know people who have been killed for less

and this is now not bak in the 20s

  • Comment removed

  • It was never stated that the family was involved.

And obviously people have been killed for less. You need only flip on the television to hear stories about idiots killing each other over a pair of shoes.

  • @131untouchable Sure you do.

  • Harrow is easily my favorite character of the whole series, seconded by the Butcher from Philly. You can sense a certain ruthlessness in both of these characters that Jimmy fails to display, although he does a fine job. The actor who plays Jimmy has certainly come a long way since I saw him in "Bully", though, but Harrow really plays a better ruthless criminal. He's been scarred grotesquely by war, women avoid him along with people in general, all he knows how to do is kill and be avoided.

    Norm

  • @HelloThar9 He was traiend to kill, he's the best marksmen and his face is half blown off... He doesn't care anymore, he's Jimmiy's killing partner and friend, that's all he thinks he is. It mgiht be sad, but at least he has worth now because of Jimmy.

  • @musiclovinggurl123

Agreed. I hope to see more of him in Season 2.

  • @HelloThar9 if someone dies, and they are innocent, i think it's not so bad. i mean, either ur dead and gone or ur in heaven. its not like ur suffering once ur dead. depends on how the death is done . even that is temporary.

  • @HelloThar9 im not saying it's cool but, just saying u kill sum1 when u want to get rid of them, not to harm/torture them. for that ppl dont just kill u

  • @HelloThar9 Nah, he has a speech impediment due to the shot he suffered to the head causing a brain trauma of some sort, that's why he says,"umm..." all the time and is slow when speaking .

  • @HelloThar9 I think the "um..." was more of an old time thing... I had a professor that would go "hmmm?" after every few sentences.

Also if i'm not mistaken he does the "um..." regularly when he talks, however I haven't watched the series in a while.

  • @HelloThar9 - That's an interesting interpretation. There's probably something to it. Even before being disfigured though, we learn that he was a sniper during the war; a job which, by its very nature, would make him quite the loner. Being injured so badly would cause further isolation, and people who live inside their heads often develop ticks and other affectations because they've distanced themselves from any social ramifications that may have otherwise stopped them from progressing.

  • Comment removed

  • @HelloThar9 I disagree. I dont think he had any hesitation about what he was doing. Its just how he talks. He has difficulty talking, he sometimes makes sounds like that, even in casual conversation. But I think he truly would. He has a war mentality still, and the way he describes them "poking their heads up" connects back to that. He was a sniper. In war, you do what you have to to win. Your point is good though, I think its half of what you said too. He was showing his loyalty.

  • I think Richard Harrow is one of my favorite characters in the series for just the sheer fact the audience can't quite figure him out

  • Interesting how they are able to make you like a guy who is so evil. Its the Tony Soprano effect. Somehow he was one of the most likeable people on that show, but also one of the nastiest.

Harrow has no problems with killing defenseless, innocent people, but due to his injury and the hard times he's experienced you still feel bad and pull for him.Good stuff.

  • Jesus, Richard slipped his murder agenda into the conversation so effortlessly I had to watch this twice to realize what was happening.

  • RichardHarrow is a BADASS! i love this show so much

  • watch my another brother link NOW :)

  • you can buy richard harrow t-shirts on ebay!!!!!!!!!

  • the people that created richard harrow = pure genius

  • Like everyone else is saying, Harrow is definitely my favourite character out of everyone on this show {and there are a ton of amazing characters}, but how complex this guy is and how he really obviously shows no emotion when he goes to kill innocent people, which even people who have seen terrible things in war can't handle killing another person, but I guess losing half your face would do that to anyone. I can't wait to see him in the second season, and Jack Huston is an amazing actor.

  • This has to be one of the best scenes from the series - Harrow is a complex character and this, so soon after he bonded with the children, just goes to show that like everyone else in AC he has a dark side too. Quality, just pure quality; Harrow is my favourite characters. You are solid gold star for loading it - I didn't think anyone would.

  • @Tracy137

its my favorite scene too gangstaaa also the one wen jimmy shit kickes the photographer guy

  • @131untouchable : I'm not sure I like Jimmy much - though I think his wife is a total b*tch to him. I mean cutting her hair after he tells her that thinking about it is what kept him alive during the war shows how stone cold she is. He should definitely get rid of her.

  • @131untouchable Jimmy's beat down on the photographer is fuckin awesome. i watched that scene when i was high and was like "holy shit... awesomeness" haha.

  • @Tracy137

I agree. Harrow is a riddle. A gentle, sympathetic sicko. I'm very curious what he will do in season 2.

  • @bigfilmhat I must admit that I am looking forward to S2 mainly for him; though I do like Nucky too. I've heard that the writers are bringing Harrow in as a solid regular character during S2, so it will be very interesting to see what happens to the character as he develops. I hope he finds someone who would love him and so bring his gentle side more to the fore; but I doubt it; human nature isn't like that.

  • @Tracy137 Judging from the comments above, this golden star has a dark side of his own.

  • @lashlashlashlashlash : He definitely does, but that's the beauty of it.

  • Dude left half his face in the trenches and now he's stuck in the war for the rest of his life, killing people and making an effort to make his soul resemble his face as closely as possible. That's pretty much hell.

  • @immortalass That's a brilliantly fucked up description of his character. I love this comment.

  • @immortalass Beautifully put. I love this character.

  • In one sentence Richard is saying how it was Jimmys duty to be there for his mom, and in another he's talking about killing someone elses mom. Even Jimmy, who's killed a few people too, is looking at him thinking "what the hell did i bring back from Chicago?"

  • Just a glimpse at Richards sick twisted side.

  • @momdog14 Well yeah. He got his left side of his face blew up and is still the best marksman.

Great for the job in the gangs =]

  • I love how Richard reminds us he's a sniper by using the phrase 'stick their heads up' a direct reference to the trenches of WWI. Also, it's great that a few eps ago he's bonding with Margaret's children, and here he talks so coolly about MASSACRING an entire family just to provoke their enemies into revealing themselves. Also he MURDERS A TWELVE YEAR OLD.

  • @DiscreetFilms Which tewlve year old?

  • @ohnestaeb86 italian in the last episode, i believe

  • @DiscreetFilms a twelve year old? you mean the youngest d'alessio brother? well he deserve to die

  • @DiscreetFilms I thought he was 14......

  • Jimmy looks over like...."What the f*&k did I bring back with ?"

  • Harrow's a killer. He's dressing better since coming to AC.

  • got couple other scenes as well

  • rough distraught war beast!!!!! this guy is the man

  • @UncleGermrod

I don't know why but I just laughed so hard at your comment xD

  • oh man, thank you for adding this scene.

i loved this scene when i saw it, i didnt think anyone who upload it though

So chilling, Richard Harrdow is one of the best characters

  • quality mate - absolutely outstanding.

  • @stevenzgorac You cretin.

  • One of the coolest scenes IMO!! thanks for uploading! SEASON FINALE!!!!!!!
