In direct response to this one, Reggie Watts is undeniably a better singer and improviser, but KB would whoop Reggie's ass in a beatboxing contest any day of the week.
On that midi key combo thing..... I found a use in the opposite direction.....
POS keyboards, made for stores are programmable so that any single key can send key combinations. I then have a custom MIDI-OX plugin which converts complex key combinations into MIDI signals.
unfortunately midi yoke isn't working for my vista setup. works fine with my xp setup. Anyone using midi yoke on vista? if so let me know how you did it.
Just downloaded LoopBe1. It says it's not only vista capable, but apparently is windows native, for extra low latency. Hope it works as well as Midi Yoke does with XP. I"ll let you know
I remember one of his best songs he dedicated to a friend I believe it was a woman that lost hr life. But I just thought that that gave that persons spirit more love than ever.
It didn't cost as much money as a card with 8 inputs ;) Also, if you've only got the one mouth... or, less stupidly, if you typically only record one stereo sound source or two mono's at a time, why pay for more inputs? You might want separate outputs to send different tracks to different external effects, different channels in a mixing desk, etc etc. If he's wise, he's chosen a FW410 because it suits his workflow.
I have an RME Mutliface, 8 in 8 out. with 8 channels for ADAT. The internal mixer allows you to loop-back whichever channels you like. I have the 8 ADAT channels set to loopback, which gives me lots of low-latency routing options without having to use crappy VST based audio pipes.
Lots of uses for inputs other then plugging in gear........
a guy from portland, fogatron, does the same type of thing, with ableton live. he was the one who turned me on to live, when i was a little younger.good guy.
M Audio FW410. I've got one. Two inputs, 8 outputs... it's cool, but I had a little trouble with it because on a laptop it needs an external PSU (unless you find a way to get 6-wire firewire out of the laptop)... so there's a slightly annoying ritual for plugging in and powering up.
It looks like it's a simlpe midi controller pedal. They're most often used for guitar rackmount effects switching. That one he had looks like a particularly trick example, tho!
a computer is just as realiable as a guitar, or mic or any other peice of hardware you bring on stag. The problem is when you do daily activities on the OS partition that you go on stag with. The solution is to create a a seperate OS partition and use it only for Studio, then It shoudl be highly predictable. the only time it may become unstable is when installing untested programs, in which case do a ghost image so you can revert back to a previous OS state, if some problem should arrise.
i got a problem with ableton live 7 i hope you can help with when im tryin to loop vsti it records but there like 2 /3 seconds gap before the loops starts again ?
Does anyone know what pedal he is using? I need to get one and I like the amount of stomp buttons he's got going on there. I tried this method of looping earlier but I was using a guitar heroes guitar as the controller instead of a pedal. The looping worked fine but I think the USB of the controller and the USB for my audio interface (which plug in next to each other on my comp) dont like each other at all because it gave out some really bad interference type distortion on the tracks. Damn!!
i was so pissed when he didnt make the imogen dallas date a couple months back. I was really looking forward to it. Imogen does the same thing using loopback pedals as well. Amazing stuff
This is pretty sweet. I do the same style of live looping of vocals, guitars, and other stuff using 4 boss rc-20xl phrase recorders. Though I make "indie rock" heh. This seems like an awesome way of doing it because of all the other settings live has. Does this guy have some kind of specific info on his setup anywhere?
What was that last song called. The one with the wha-wha sound.

Not sure but LoopBe1 might help, it's a kernel level driver for MIDI loopback. Less jitter then non-kernel based ones.

I use it for running my timecode around and have found it to be the most reliable as far as latency/jitter.
