Short term effects are impaired perception, judgment, thinking, memory and learning. It may be one of the safer drugs but that doesn't mean there is no danger.

I am actually wondering if you have ever been around people who smoke weed. Many of those effects are common in people who regularly smoke pot -- depersonalization, paranoia, depression, impaired perception, etc... I used to be around it a lot in college and many of my friends that smoked always showed some of those effects.

Also, I read an economist's report on the potential effects on the economy if weed was legalized. He predicted several millions of dollars to be made and saved. Pretty interesting stuff.
