  • This law isnt going to decrease animals being placed into shelters. What about already fixed animals that swarm shelters because people can't afford them, or they simply want to get rid of them because they are moving or don't have time for the animal? It might decrease the amount of animals born out of an accidental breeding, but it's not going to stop people from getting rid of their animals.

  • marsdjinni2: You are apparently unaware of the puppymill industry, backyard breeders, stray dogs, etc. If you stop the breeding then these dogs you talk about have a 100% better chance of adoption. Use your head.

  • People are still going to manage to get their puppies from a puppy mill source, whether it be out of state, or from Mexico. Besides, the majority of puppy mill bred dogs originate outside of California, so it's impact specifically on puppy mill dogs will be low.

Even with this act being enforced, it's not going to stop "puppy shops" from selling, unfortunately.

  • It is however at start. After that perhaps we can stop it in all the other states.

  • Jane Velez-Mitchell is such a passionate advocate & her striking beauty gets ppl's attention! LISTEN to her!! She is as wise as she is beautiful!

Love you, Jane! Keep up the good work!

  • Care about the animals in shelters? See the nokilladvocaycenter org. There is a better way!

  • As a responsible breeder, myself and my other breeder friends realize that the problems with ab1634 are being resolved by the amendments and that it is the irresponsible and ignorant breeders that are opposing the bill. I am sick and ashamed of all the scare tactic lies being put forth against the bill. Lets be responsible adults and not play bush politics with animal lives.

  • Thank you so much for speaking up properly. I have no idea why both sides can't be civil.

  • I commend your post. I think the breeders that oppose the bill are the ones that are backyard breeding. I applaud you.

  • Thanks for posting this! :)

  • The breeders are crying because AB 1634 has passed so far and onto the Senate, but the breeders should be crying for costing the California tax payers so much money and all the unwanted animals that end up in the shelters. YES ON AB 1634.

  • Kudos to you!!!

  • There is so much fear mongering and misinformation. This bill will not end life as we know it. Click on here and read the text of the bill for yourself.

Too many people have been drinking some bad Kool-aide. Get the facts straight and you will support this bill too.

  • Most breeders are backyard breeders & puppymills, not responsible breeders. They wont buy expensive breeding permits just to be legal. I have been doing rescue for 18 yrs, a responsible breeder & DO NOT support this bill. Also 4 month old spay or neuter is NOT healthy for all pets. NO to the testicle police! Also shelter numbers HAVE been dropping in Calif in recent yrs.For the other side, please google doggone california or save our dogs.

  • Psycho you just have not been listening. Breeder Lose money any breeding. The IRS and State Tax board and the board of Equalization said breeder fall under the OCCASIONAL SALES and only pay tax if the more than 2 litters per year and if they file everything with all the lost of the per-breeding they end owning ZERO.. the IRS said it can not list dog or cat Breeders as a business. if you call the IRS the you do have the person you talk to badge # right?

  • I spoke to the IRS and they said to REPORT NON-TAX PAYING BREEDERS (also, those without business licenses) by submiting this online form (Form 3949A) from their website under forms and publications. Also you can call and report tax fraud by calling 800 829-0433

  • How interesting, first breeders will be able to raise prices due to a shortage of pure breds, then "pets will be available for everyone" Breeders can breed whatever they want with a "licence" in California. want a goldendoodle? Not in California.a labdradoodle? Not in California. no more mutts in California.. Pure breds only need apply and then only until 2009 when ALL licenses to breed expire.

  • Thank God somebody "gets it!" Too many pet animals dying, for far too long. GO AB 1634!!!

  • Maybe it SHOULD be open season on breeders at AKC shows to verify compliance with laws on the books. Like licensing, paying sales taxes, zoning requirements, business permits. Heck, I think I'll call the Pomona Mayor and request they get some ACs out for the Mission Circuit and do a little enforcement this weekend.

Maybe there would be some drug sniffing dogs to shuffle around the overnight areas, too.

  • Bravo Jeff! Way to go Mary... LOVE those purple socks!!! Judy
