I wish, though, that they had explained about that sticky strip on the one edge. I assume it's to tack it down to the underfloor?

No, it is to stick to the adjacent strip in order to create a solid barrier. Overlap by 8".
The video also had a problem in that the strip against the wall should have come 4" up the wall to the right of the actor.
