  • Unbelievable....

  • amazing cover

  • yeah lol james mercer is my uncle!!!!! (:

  • @allibear95 if your telling the truth thats pretty badass

  • i loved when they played this on jimmy fallon on pink floyd cover week.brutal!

  • Saw them perform this on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. It was eerie how much this sounds classic. I wish I could find that performance.

  • @MD5 Are you talking about the Shins performance on Fallon as what you wish you could find? If so it's on NBC's site. At least it was.

  • @MD5 Just go to shins.com

  • They were on Jimmy Fallon tonight, their interpretation of 'Breathe' was amazing! Search for the video on NBC / Jimmy Fallon. Totally worth it!

  • The Shins kick so much ass.

  • One of my favorite bands covering my favorite band? OH MY GOD.

  • brilliant. i love it! love how the loud sound of the drums have a peaceful feel to it in the recording

  • epic.

  • Thank you for this.

  • A greart tribute band

  • Epic.

  • thsi is good. I bet the shins were really influenced by pink floyd. They have a similar sound...

  • Brilliant version!

  • awsomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee \m/

  • This is so wonderful. So jealous of anyone who saw this live!!!

  • i can smell the marihuana

  • omgggggg <3

  • WAY COOL BAND PLAYING WAY COOL COVER

  • who is the shins?...

  • Everyone seems to think there is a wrong or right to music.....it is all subjective.

  • They played it wrong

  • Ofcourse they played it wrong.

Theyre not Pink Floyd and never will be!

  • Did I say they were Pink Floyd? If your going to do a cover then at least get it right!

  • I know right?

  • I think I owe you an apology. I misunderstood you. Sorry

  • Lmao, dont sweat it!

    =D

  • I'm pretty sure the point of a cover is not to "get it right". Usually, you're supposed to put your own spin on it. If they got it "right", then the song would be a carbon copy, would it not? And why would you want to listen to a carbon copy if you could just listen to the original?

Case in point, its a good cover.

  • another reason, is to show that they made a footprint in music and we have to respect them and keep it alive.

  • I found it really amusing actually, I have never heard of this band before but I am pozitive they don't play it WRONG. Its called covering. They have just put their flavour to the song here.

And in my opinion, any band covering Floyd, are surely great Floyd fans, since Pink Floyd is not commercial stuff, so they play it not to promote but to appreciate and perform.

  • it would be sick to catch this live

  • Excellent comment, I couldn't agree more.

  • Thanks !

It's nice to see that you think the same.

  • NICE.

  • is there a higher quality recording of them covering this out there anywhere?

  • yep. go to hypem . com and look it up. its good stuff =)

  • nice job!

  • they do it really good!

check my studio version if you want...

  • on the gay channel?

  • por que no me la chupas, pedazo de maricon? Que haces firmando aca si no sabes nada de musica, imbecil? Pobre tonto que sos...

  • COOOL!

  • They're one of the few bands that can do this well.

  • Good songs! But the mouths` don`t snyc?

  • My second favourite band of all time covering one of the greatest songs by my most favourite band of all time!!!

    <3!!!!!

  • i love the shins and they sound awesome on this cover!!!

  • the vocals are amazing the guitar not so great but a very gd cover

  • i never thought anyone could successfully cover floyd, but i love there harmonies! great!

  • Wow, you could almost mistake this for the real pink floyd.. VERY good job.

  • Yeah, I was just thinking that! Never thought the Shins could pull it off, but they did. :)

  • calm down

  • wuw, take a chill pill man

  • it doesn't suck, i am a pink floyd fan, and i know that rarely any band would get to their level, but you gotta admit that they did a pretty good job with the song.

  • and your a home

  • dont listen to that idiot zenarrrow...

take a look at my breathe cover if you want... it's a studio version...

  • I am proud of the Shins for doing this cover. It's ballsy as hell, and I think they do a pretty damn good job of it, too.

For those naysayers, you have to admit that it's better to watch than James Blundt sing "Where's My Mind" by the Pixies!!

  • the studio version has gilmour's vocals on it, though roger has sung this song many times whileperforming live..

  • i'm floyd thru and thru and this is a great cover.

  • i kinda digged the solo...good cover

  • only missing the slide g tar and gilmour sings this one !!

  • cool cover

cool that they, or one of them, listens to pink floyd. risky move indeed, but they did it well. course the shins are almost always good, and this wasnt a song they could totally ruin if it didnt come out right.

atleast compared to stuff from the wall

  • face it he sings better than waters.

  • waters did not sing this

  • yep. It was Gilmour.

  • There are two vocal parts. Not sure about the studio version, but Waters did sing one of the vocal parts when they played it live.

  • As far as i know, in the studio version both vocal parts are Gilmour's (check the "Classic Albums" DSotM doccumentary), live however, i'm pretty sure it's Gilmour and Wright.

  • On Pulse, the Live 8 Reunion, and Remember that Night Jon Carin sings harmony with Gilmour, but back in the 70s I think Gilmour sang alone. I've got to check my bootlegs.

  • donbon waters wrote the song and how can u say gilmour sang better its a matter of opinion. i happen to like waters voice much better then gilmour.( except on meddle)

  • NO SO GOOD...

  • f.a.n.t.a.s.t.i.c.

  • Impossible to do it better than Floyd. There was so much emotion in Floyd's version and it was raw. I will say this is a good cover, but no where near better.

  • good version actually.not that bad. does them justice. cause they didnt take their own ideas. you just cant beat the original one

  • Yeah. Covering Pink Floyd is a really risky move but they pulled it off.

  • The Australian Pink Floyd, is, and WILL, be the best thing you can see, unless the real Floyd reform. End of Story. They have the original Pig, and everything. The Shins are good though.

  • Yeah, sorry guys, he's right, the original pig ends every argument. Who really cares about the music! Behold the power of the original pig!

(by the way, wasn't Roger Waters still looking for it a couple of weeks ago, offering a reward and stuff?)

  • lol southern california's "which ones pink?" is really good as well...while the don't have the original pig they build a mini replica of the wall onstage...if you're in hollywood any time soon you should chech em out

  • @valido940 pretty sure they had the original pig and it was not air worthy so that's why they commissioned the new one. Of course three years ago we probably would not have known that. Love your response though. The pig must truly hold magical powers.

  • @valido940 the real pig was recovered in a farmer's field a couple of miles down the road back when it was first lost. it has a hole in it so they couldn't use it for the re release.

  • @valido940 the real pig was recovered in a farmer's field but has a hole in it so they couldn't use it for the re release.

  • @listentofloyd011 Personally, though Aussie Floyd does have the Pig and a better light show, I think James Mercer's voice suits Pink Floyd far better than Aussie's lead singers.

  • Hey Cuntwaffle you have nooooo argument. Now.... feck off!

  • AWSOME COVER, shins r the best

  • u think this is awesome cover? wait till u see the australian pink floyd perform. they got so big that all the staff, crew, managers, stage hands of the original pink floyd are now working for them.

  • Well I've never heard of them, so they can't be too big :P

  • thats cos they don't receive airplay on the radio or have done any mtv's or any of that mainstream stuff. just cos YOU have not heard of them doesn't speak heaps of their popularity.

  • Lol, okay that's true. I don't watch MTV though. heck? Even if we got that in Australia, why would I, it's more like Crappy Reality Televison than Music Televison.

All i'm saying is i'm from Aus and i've never heard of them, or anything like that happening with Pink floyd's old crew. I would think if they were half popular they would have at least got some airtime on Triple J, I haven't heard them on JJJ. I doubt they're popular outside of their city if they "don't recieve airplay on the radio"

  • Yeah but they're just a tribute act? Did they write any of their material? nope. Therefore, The Shins rule.

  • the shins didn't write breathe either. what the hell are u saying? yeesh

  • The Shins haven't made a career out of covering songs? Duh.

  • really? that 3 chord song sounds strangely familiar. now what was its name hmmm....

  • their careers not based on it though jackass.

they got popular off of their own material.

  • indeed...then why is it u are here spouting gibberish on this page where the shins are doing a COPY of pink floyd? wise up fag douchebag!

  • i like how they didnt try improving it cause that would be stupid pink floyds music was all perfect as it was and this stays true to that LOVE THE SHINS!!!

  • This teenage band did a cover of this same song that I heard today. Slide stuff and everything.

    Pretty cool.

I think you can just type in "Bingo Fridays" in the search box, its like a slideshow and then their music.

    This version is awesome.

  • wow.

the shins actually did a good job to floyd,

and its hard to cover floyd, because they are so, different and amazing. But good job!

    think pink!

  • Pretty sweet. Pretty freakin goddamn sweet.

  • These guys nail this song! Absolutely excellent job covering it. If you're going to do a cover like Breathe, it had better be spot-on. These guys nailed the vocals and tonality of the song.

  • I like this :D

  • This is a great cover, see if ours is any good.

  • very nice cover

  • I'm surprised. It actually sounds quite spot-on. Congrats. Nice vocal harmonies.

  • awesome!

  • pretty good ya bastards

  • That's real good. 5 stars!

  • which commercial??

  • The song from the commercial is the first song off the new CD Wincing the Night Away. The song is called Sleeping Lessons, and in the commercial they edit the fuck out of the song.

    The song is amazing.

  • get your fucking dates right.

the cd has been out for over a year

  • amazin

  • does anyone know the song off the commercial??? what is it called

  • the zune commercial?

    its sleeping lessons.

  • holy shit this is freakin awesome!!!!!! one of the best bands around today covering my fav pink floyd song AWESOME!

  • the shins are amazing

  • how cool can this band get? i'm a teacher who is introducing the shintastic sound to a new audience of college students i teach. the word is a spreading!!

  • when i listen to pink floyd covers i realize how difficult it is for their songs to be played by another band..

  • i love the shins and everything they do

  • ya it was great

  • It Rawked in Atlanta last night!

  • They played Breathe in the encore last night in Atlanta

  • wow i agree it sounds a LOT like pink floyd. & i was pleasantly surprised b/c i didnt think anyone would have th guts to attempt to match pink floyd but i love it :)))

  • I saw them play this Wednesday night in Albuquerque. I was amazed at how much the voices sounded like the original recording. It was by far the best song of the evening.

  • Im seeing them on the 23rd in NY- do the shins do covers at all there shows? I would die to see them do Pink Floyd

  • This makes me love the Shins even more! That was incredible!

  • Usually I don't like covers, but wow, I'm glad I checked this out. Definitely did the vocals some SERIOUS justice, thanks for uploading.

  • FANTASTIC!!

  • i saw this in adelaide!

  • Great cover :)

  • una mierda el sonido, pero la cancion de pink floyd es la raja,no hay otra =...pink floyd lo mas grande del planeta, ojala se vuelvan a juntar todos de new.

  • wow. when i listen to the songs written by the shins, his voice sounds nothing like david gilmour's but somehow he pulls it off in the cover. this is excellent

  • I get the chills everytime I hear this.

  • this is awesome. It does justice to the original recording.

  • great cover!

  • well you know the shins can nail the vocals. these guys are great great singers.

  • Wow! Very nice.....I dig it!!!

Bumbershoot!!! LOL I was there in the late 80's and saw Greg Allman....Lots of good street performers also....

  • I was at bumbershoot in Seattle yesterday and they played this song. Amazing. Shins are great live.

  • i'm a huge fan of both.. this is exciting.

  • nice

  • esos espinillas son lo unico bueno de la mierda gringa rockera

  • I was sad they didn't do this at Leeds fest - i'm a massive Floyd fan, but not much of a Shins fan, so it would've been awesome for me... never mind, they were good anyway

  • not bad at all

  • dude.... they dont fuck around

  • this is a great cover the shins are amazing

  • HOLY SHIT! This is fucking amazing

  • this is swell

  • this is awesome, thanks. i still hold out hope that the shin's masterpiece is ahead of them.

    killer outro

  • If anyone has a better recording, get it up!!!! THE SHINS ARE THE BEST BAND SINCE PINK FLOYD!!!

  • i just saw the shins at splendour in the grass in byron bay. They played this cover of breath, it was incredible. Best set i have ever seen.

  • pretty awesome, I love pink floyd and the shins.

  • It´s not Pink Floyd. It´s The Shins playing a Pink Floyd song.

  • why do people asume that when audio is out of sync with video, that it must mean it's fake. Are you stupid! If it was Pink Floyd audio it would sound a FUCKLOAD better than that!

  • shame it's such a crap recording but probably not gonna get that many opportunities to hear such a cool cover of breath

  • The video is real, I just had some problems while uploading it. The file was too heavy and the sound went off-sync. I've been told that this happens often on Youtube with amateurs like me :P Now I learned how to do it properly...

  • how?

  • it sounds like pink floyd because it is pink floyd.....the singing doesnt match the video

  • the video is a slower then the video everything is off just somthings on youtube load the video quicker then the sound but its definetly not pink floyd

  • The Shins did a cover of Breathe at the auckland concert and it was amazing. James Mercer has a great range. And if anyone thinks that is Pink Floyd then they are either retarted or have a very loose grasp on reality!!

  • Both amazing bands. Not a great use of Mercer's talent though. So does anyone know why they chose this song to cover live? IT must tie to Mercer's Rabbit symbolism for his ex (Red Rabbit and Turn on Me).

  • well, I don't know them, but I like it. :)

  • im a huge floyd and shins fan so this is completly phenomenal

  • I know. They should try a cover of Pink FLoyd when Syd was in the band. Mercer could do a good job i bet

  • always a Floyd fan way cool

  • this is an amazing cover.

  • I'm a fan of both bands. I'ma say I like the performance. Coming from me, it sounded a lot like Pink Floyd.

  • And, again, there's no need theatrics. I need "feeling". I like The Shins on cd. I just want Mercer to be a little more involved in what he sings, and not just check the sound and make a dumb smile every now and then like a paid session man. Check Bright Eyes for a quick example. See? I'm not talking about Metallica.

  • I posted this video because I liked this cover, but the rest of the gig sucked. Simple as that.

  • Well, if your kind of show is listening exactly to the same thing as the cd while the singer looks completely deadpan and all he does is checking if his guitar is tuned... go ahead, throw your money at them. I prefer people who actually plays like they fucking believe in what they're doing and not like it's just a contract to respect. If that's their style, I'm ok just listening to the cds. Sorry for my english. It kind of sucks. Just like The Shins live.

  • Why do you bother posting a video of a band who you think sucks live? That makes absolutely no sense. For that matter, why are you at the show? Do you like eating spoiled food as well?

  • so you post a video for them? and you expect people watching it not to like them? you're fucking retarded.

this is a pretty good cover. not every band is like The Who on stage by the way. Pink Floyd wasn't. if the music does something for you, you don't need a lot of theatrics. Some bands blind lack of talent with a bunch of stage shit that doesn't matter.

  • I saw them live too. alright, but not the best.

  • brilliant.

  • Wow. Really, really, really good.

  • They didn't do too bad for covering Pink Floyd, I really like The Shins, but I love Pink Floyd, and this is pretty cool

  • Sorry everybody for the bad sync, didn't realize until now... by the way, they were incredibly boring and this cover was the highlight of the show.

  • Hmm...you're insane.

  • Seriously... what was that? the second live show you've seen in your life? or are you 17 maybe?

  • y they are boring? cuz they didnt tell jokes?

  • They were boring 'cause they were playing like they were selling hoovers. They need a little something called "passion" that doesn't hurt in a live show.

  • wat kind of passion? smashing their guitar? jumping around? lol.. mayb thats their style though
