I'm pretty sure the point of a cover is not to "get it right". Usually, you're supposed to put your own spin on it. If they got it "right", then the song would be a carbon copy, would it not? And why would you want to listen to a carbon copy if you could just listen to the original?
I found it really amusing actually, I have never heard of this band before but I am pozitive they don't play it WRONG. Its called covering. They have just put their flavour to the song here.
And in my opinion, any band covering Floyd, are surely great Floyd fans, since Pink Floyd is not commercial stuff, so they play it not to promote but to appreciate and perform.
it doesn't suck, i am a pink floyd fan, and i know that rarely any band would get to their level, but you gotta admit that they did a pretty good job with the song.
cool that they, or one of them, listens to pink floyd. risky move indeed, but they did it well. course the shins are almost always good, and this wasnt a song they could totally ruin if it didnt come out right.
As far as i know, in the studio version both vocal parts are Gilmour's (check the "Classic Albums" DSotM doccumentary), live however, i'm pretty sure it's Gilmour and Wright.
On Pulse, the Live 8 Reunion, and Remember that Night Jon Carin sings harmony with Gilmour, but back in the 70s I think Gilmour sang alone. I've got to check my bootlegs.
donbon waters wrote the song and how can u say gilmour sang better its a matter of opinion. i happen to like waters voice much better then gilmour.( except on meddle)
Impossible to do it better than Floyd. There was so much emotion in Floyd's version and it was raw. I will say this is a good cover, but no where near better.
The Australian Pink Floyd, is, and WILL, be the best thing you can see, unless the real Floyd reform. End of Story. They have the original Pig, and everything. The Shins are good though.
lol southern california's "which ones pink?" is really good as well...while the don't have the original pig they build a mini replica of the wall onstage...if you're in hollywood any time soon you should chech em out
@valido940 pretty sure they had the original pig and it was not air worthy so that's why they commissioned the new one. Of course three years ago we probably would not have known that. Love your response though. The pig must truly hold magical powers.
@valido940 the real pig was recovered in a farmer's field a couple of miles down the road back when it was first lost. it has a hole in it so they couldn't use it for the re release.
@listentofloyd011 Personally, though Aussie Floyd does have the Pig and a better light show, I think James Mercer's voice suits Pink Floyd far better than Aussie's lead singers.
u think this is awesome cover? wait till u see the australian pink floyd perform. they got so big that all the staff, crew, managers, stage hands of the original pink floyd are now working for them.
thats cos they don't receive airplay on the radio or have done any mtv's or any of that mainstream stuff. just cos YOU have not heard of them doesn't speak heaps of their popularity.
Lol, okay that's true. I don't watch MTV though. heck? Even if we got that in Australia, why would I, it's more like Crappy Reality Televison than Music Televison.
All i'm saying is i'm from Aus and i've never heard of them, or anything like that happening with Pink floyd's old crew. I would think if they were half popular they would have at least got some airtime on Triple J, I haven't heard them on JJJ. They were boring 'cause they were playing like they were selling hoovers. They need a little something called "passion" that doesn't hurt in a live show.
