He looks downright uncomfortable performing for a camera. This is such a cool audience participation song, and I think James feeds on the energy of the audience when performing it.
It's certainly wonderful to see this, but there's no comparison to seeing it live.
I am Canadian but don't remember seeing the show. Too bad. Maybe we didn't get it on the Prairies, or in the 70s and 80s I was just too busy driving our kids to hockey, ringette, dancing, choir, that I never had a chance to watch TV!!
I'm not Canadian myself, but just across the border - north of Windsor, in Detroit. I'd never heard of the show til I found these youtubes, but I love Canadian folk music...Ian and Slyvia have always been my favorites, Stan and Garnet, and so...

One of his many great songs. But, I think I recognize the room as the same that Garnet Rogers recorded some of his records as well. Am I right?

By the way, he lives in Winnipeg now. Was at his latest CD release a couple of weeks ago. A great voice and a fine story-teller, in his songs.

185 men died when coal dust ignited on the morning shift. One more disaster for the Crowsnest Pass.
