on a 1989 c1500 does the bleeding valve have to be up? im thinking i put the caliper on the wrong sides? because it seems like they have bled but then i turn the truck on and nothing.. anyone?
i use a plastic bottle with a rubber hose the goes from bleeder screw to a bottle that has a little bit of brake fluid in there n as you you open it you will see bubbles in the bottle and by the time your done the fluid is all dirty n you can tell you did it
I thought the bleeding sequence for a left hand drive car should be (1) right rear wheel (2) left rear wheel (3) right front wheel and finally (4) left front wheel. This info is what I got from authoritative sources like popular mechanics. Anyway, I still appreciate this video. Thanks for posting.

YOUR BLEEDING ON MY FLOOR... DOG! lol you need a small air hose that fits the nipple and a clear bottle or jug. then run the hose from the nipple to the jug. and pump the brakes till you stop seeing air bubbles
@atforger He's just saying that because if the pads don't contact with the rotor your car is not going to stop and you'll end up hitting the garage door.
Thank you so much for this very instructionnal video. It changes from these idiotic videos not showing properly things. That will be very useful, you're very good at teching mechanic.
Ok so Im just checking around, because I am always the one in the car, and I know that, you have to PUMP UP THE BRAKES TILL THEY ARE FIRM. then open the bleed screw, and pedal will go to the floor, (light pressure and Hold), close bleed screw and pump pedal again.
@Glenn,, No you don't need car running with power brakes.
@ejlister Seriously? Dangerous? To who? The brake-bleeding timid nonprofessionals or the EPA tree-hugging spooks? Most of us grow up in the real world, not an ideal one. This info was "down to earth" and to the point. No crap about removing wheels (huh?), buying a stupid, do-it-yourself brake-bleeding kit, or inviting an OSHA rep to watch as you perform this remedial task. ADVICE: Don't be so quick to criticize as I have just done you (Miller Lite x 8 or 9).
@MidgardWarrior9 Did anyone notice that he wasn't tightening the lug nuts? He was actually tightening the plastic lug nut covers that hold the center cap on.
Thanks I check the air pressure in the Tires they were low in notice that I put the right air pressure in the tires it stop pulling to one side thanks again
@windhammer357 Check the tire pressure, and if this is correct, check the pads/rotors on the car. If your car is consistently pulling one way, lets say left, I would assume it might be the right front bake that needs to be checked/replaced. And remember always replace bakes in pairs, both front, and or both back. Hope this helps.
Normally I saw 2 mechanic , 1 mechanic pump.. pump..pump and pump and hold down... and the other mechanic will unscrew it.... and repeat up to 4 times... is that correct?
From your video, it show 1 time push down the brake and then you unscrew the bleed screw...
Where is the blleder on a 94 GMC Sierra, COuld Someone Send me a link to a page that shows where the bleeder is ? on both front and back perferabbly, im a newbie in mechanics, i mean i can change tires brakes and oil and sparksplugs, but ive never bled brakes before .. and im kind of nervous that im going to unwrench the wrong thing and the shit just falls apart ... thanks to anyone who can
For most vehicles you do not need to apply pressure to the pedal. Just open all the bleed valves and let them drain freely for some time. Much less work :-)
@lazyhorse22 Hi. What you do is that you open all bleed valves and let them drip freely. Keep the reservoir filled to the top at all times. Do NOT let the reservoir run dry. Do NOT touch the brake pedal.
Run through a bottle of brake fluid and you have replaced all break fluid and at the same time removed all air from the system.
This have worked for all the cars I've done a brake job on.
ps.... in addition to my comment....22 years experience using a 3/16th hose, bottle or container & never squirted fluid about 10cm over any floor either lol!!!
this is gotta be the unsafest brake beeding system i seen on youtube yet!
i aint even gonna start on the wheel re-fitment....this guys a crank mechanic lol!
Squirting brake fluid everywhere... Putting wheels on with windy gun... (good luck on not stripping nuts)
and your not ever tightening them in the correct order! its always diagonal!
And never test the brakes by driving the vehicle... your meant to have someone press the brake and your meant to turn the wheel by hand to see if it locks or not.
I think you need to watch some videos yourself before you give people the wrong impressions.
yes you start at the furthest away from the resivour . so if you have a right hand drive car you bleed
rear left
rear right
front left
front right
sometimes has to be done more than once on each wheel affter each one is bleed
DONT WORK UNDER THE JACK, or wood, bricks or spare wheel, all ways use axle stands! and if they work on ratchets have them at least one click not resting on the frame of the axle stand.. good luck
how do you determine if your brakes are firm enough? I mean I can press hard on my brake pedal and it will go all way to floor, does that mean i need to bleed my brakes, or that I am just pressing them down too hard?
Its good to purge out some of the old fluid. I just did a brake job on my car, I bled all 4 wheels even though I only replaced the front pads and rotors. I opened the bleeder valve about 7-8 times per wheel, the left rear wheel some how had a little air in it, this was an '06 Sonata.
this is really quite simple you need 2 people. one inside the car one at the bleeder nipple. start at the farthest caliper from the reservoir then back to front then to back then to front. diagonal like such as rr, lf, lr, rf. have him push the pedal down then open the screw and when it squirts out close it off do it 2 or 3 times for sureness. repeat on all wheels. then like he said go at about 15 or 20 mph and slam the brakes during the testy drive. befoprehand press the pedal down a few times
Or, another idea if someone can comment, if you pushed the seat against lets say a "toilet plunger" or "pry bar", you could hold down the brake pedal, then go out open the bleed valve, push seat back, push seat forward on pry bar or plunger, then go back to bleeder valve and repeat. Works better with a power seat.
You open the bleed screw first THEN tell the guy to press the pedal down. As the fluid is coming out CLOSE the screw mid stream. Repeat until fluid comes out in a steady stream.
He should be using a plastic tube connected to the bleeder valve with the other end in a glass jar filled with new brake fluid, otherwise air will get sucked back through the bleeder valve. Oil on the floor? That wouldn't fly in my shop.
First off, you should refrain from insults, it only shows a great immaturity and lack of self esteem on your behalf. Now, watch the video, his first mistake would be bleeding the brakes, without the proper bleed tube, container or reservoir to catch excess fluid.
This wouldnt stand in any shop that I know of and to make matters worse, this is supposed to be an instructional video. I made a visual mistake lug nut covers BUT - continued
BUT You see him using an Impact wrench too apply them, also using the same Impact wrench to apply the lug nuts, this is another mistake and is commonly found in poorly managed working environments. There are Various reasons as too why he should be using a Torque wrench and not an Impact wrench when applying lug nuts but not necessarily for the removal of lug nuts.
These habbits are dangerous for the work environment and for the customer.
welcome to flat rate pay, thank you have a nice day.. if u go to a shop chances are very high that the tech working on your car isnt going to torque them
I like that quote "welcome to flat rate pay, thank you have a nice day"
Ofcourse it all depends on the area. You can usually have good mind of how a shops ran, by getting a look on the inside. My uncle has managed a multiple shops (Relocating). One of my good friends, happens to be manager of a local tire shop (Well known chain). He upholds the same standard with his employees. I on the other hand, come from a family line of mechanics (like most mechanics)
i work at ford, over the years over the years you learn how tight to tighten bolts/lugnuts with air tools or just ratchets/wrenches. i really only torque engine parts. i also know if you tighten the lugnuts to much, you can warp the hub, but ive never had a customer complain and ive never had any problems with my cars, the way i look at it only noobies/guys who wanna look professional, torgue everything
Most of the time, when something happens, youll just break a stud. Usually from a repeat customer, who had his tires installed at your given establishment.
Obviously there are various other issues that could occur, this one being the more frequent issue.
it must suck to work at your shop then, i always get oil in my stalls, thank god for oil absorbers/cleaners. my stalls looks like new every monday, who wouldve knew
that was very informative, thanks. but what would it feel like if you still had air in the lines? would you not be able to stop, or would the pedal just be real spongey?

not sure why bleeding the brakes is necessary in this instance. At now time was air allowed into the system during a simple rotor and pad removal.
If you have concerns that they have never been bled before or if you remove some of the tubing (replacing caliper) then you need to bleed.
