I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps Carb and tank clean and rustfree
nice car and motor, u might want to clean the carb and check the injectors on it though [they didnt look like they were misting the fuel the best], and the distributor could use its points cleaned or replaced and the spark plugs of course, thats what i would do just to cover all bases
ey man i have the same problem right now with my 3AU toyota trueno carby ,i finally crank it but cant still IDLE just like ur car, whys that?cause i asume ur car was laided up along time ago but with the right timing why the hell cant hold IDLE u think can be a dirty carb?i m thinking that and could be timing cause i messed up the 4 and the 1 wire lead just to crank it,how u fixed it?to hold the idle, love carbies oldschool rules
Indeed! Is coming together now - just needed the cobwebs blowing out as the engine had been sat for 4 years and the carb isn't quite correctly jetted for it.
Runs and drives now though - and fires up without too much grief! Like you say, a little more time and it'll be spot on...
If Triumph hadn't been boxed in by Rover & Jaguar in the BLMC-whatever mess, they could have sold V8 Dollys, Tols, 2500 saloons & estates.
I still think that the Stag V8 was a bad idea, cost & engineering wise. Would have been better/cheaper to design new OHC heads for the 3.5l Buick V8. Still, what do I know?
It's settled down a bit now - reset the float chambers and ran some cleaner through it. Two pumps and it bursts into life on the first flick of the key.
It's still not quite happy on the transition from idle to running but if you're gentle it's fine.
Runs and revs without issue, otherwise, now! Soon be taking it's first steps!
Seriously. The timing is 180 out

I think we all noticed that the timing is miles out, twist that dizzy to get it to run proper....

use 1% two stroke oil in your fuel to prevent fuel system corrosion with todays ultra dry eco fuel (E10)

More than they did, at the time, methinks! Still, benefit of hindsight and all that...
All those V8 models would have been awesome.....

It needs a choke plate on the acellerator pump side barrels. As you can see theres a choke plate mounting on that side.

if you keep getting carb fires (which it seems you do), then you need to give it a tad more timing, might help it fire up
