the glow plugs simply warm the combustion chamber to fire it, it runs off of the heat generated by compression, and i believe the truck you were using doesnt have glow plugs at all instead it has a grid heater in the intake that warms the air before it enters the heads

@sstroh08 The 6.4L PowerStroke does not have a grid heater. Only the Cummins' diesels have grid heaters as far as I know.
