It's the PATRIACHY!!! OMG!! Really? I read a story about a mother who drown her two kids to get back at her ex-husband who divorced her.
During her trial she claimed he abused her during their marriage and that's why she murdered their kids. Really? No proof at all about the abuse, but just the same, shouldn't she be happy to be rid of her abuser husband?
And of course, we don't look at the abuse of a mother murdering her kids.
@TookiGuy It is sad. It's sad that we push people into gender boxes and judge them. As a radical feminist I do NOT support the social construction of gender. I fight and educate people by exposing the nature of these social constructs so that people will THINK about it and realize that these boxes are cruel and unusual punishment. I won't socially antagonize you Tooki. There are so many feminists who understand and won't hurt you. And the meek shall inherit the earth.
@TookiGuy I understand about school. I was bullied by girls in my middle school years and I'm like you too. I am non-aggressive and I never stood up to them. The girls were jealous of me and I was and am a very eccentric person irl. My eccentric difference didn't suit my social life until I was out of school and went to Berklee. It was there, going to school with ppl from all over the world who were just as eccentric as me that I felt socially accepted. I never had problems with guys in school
@Took and I had waaaay more guy friends than I did girls. Sometimes it's the environment that needs to change. If you live in a place where your eccentricity isn't accepted it is soooo painful. Is there a way you can change your environment?
@sausage4mash - I don't think any socially constructed gender roles are good. I'm not opposed to moms being stay at home moms if they want. But when it's the expectation - that's when we run into problems because it places people into boxes. All of a sudden the mom that works isn't a good mom and attacked for it and the fathers who stay at home are emasculated. I don't see how this is beneficial to society as a whole. (just thought I'd use the most obvious example).
@cannibalcountry I think perhaps gender roles are a reflection of our own biology dismissing them maybe damaging ,obviously no one should be forced to be anything they do not want to be , I would say the father in the video was an extremist ( he allowed no moderation to his beliefs ) but to have no sex roles is that extremism as well ?
@AuntieDiana1969 it would be drastically different from what we have now it would be an extreme departure from the norm ,I just think maybe if we move too far away from our inherent nature it may have adverse psychological effects .
off at a tangent just watched this video : watch?v=16fvTonR_gA
Interesting how they have set gender roles ,very similar to are own.
You are putting stigma on child beaters. There are NO GOOD STIGMAS. Now that man is in danger in prison, because of YOUR STIGMA. (ooh Step Father, ick). Serious Note: I have a HUGE thing with women putting their kids in danger with these steps. It's VERY common, and I wonder if mothers sometimes don't subconsciously hate their kids. I could not believe what my mother subjected us to. Flowers In The Attic.
@rememberthediamonds WooT? Did some idiot say I was putting stigma onto child beaters and gay bashers? You're kidding me right? Well I did get a video response from efwhore but it was very lacking in any real critical thought. And why in the hell are these people sending me videos anyway that I have no interest in.
yea heard about this story. the guy was obviously insane so if it wasnt the gender roles he was obsessed with it woulda been somethin else. but yea, everythin you say here is right.
Brandon Teena's story and the stories of others like him (those who have been silenced or attacked for adopting a masculine gender identity despite being genetically female) fits all too well within this narrative too.
That is a veeeeeery disturbing story. In the past 4 years, some of who I've seen guardian over children has robbed some of my idealism about the family unit. From the ethically unsound to the mentally unstable, everything seems to be raising these little unformed people. So anything I hear of the darkest nature regarding abuse is completely believable. Further, this fear of all things feminine is the product of mis-education going on for years. Maddening.

Mothers commit twice as much child abuse as men.

People only say social construction is "fake" because they don't want to confront their own shitty compliance. Truth VS Compliance!!!!

This is just sad.
I'm what you'd call a "feminine male," I'm anti-masculinity.
How do I avoid social antagonism from others?
I suppose it's because I'm just so withdrawn. I'm a super introvert.

@AuntieDiana1969 I do have to say, though - my case isn't as bad as most people's.
I just happen to be non-aggressive, non-confrontational and generally shy.
I'd be called one of those "silent types" if it weren't for the way I look. I just happen to have a feminine look, no matter what I do.
Compare that to the people who actually are feminine in the way they talk, the way they move.
Like I said, I'm not social, so for the most part I don't get too much shit, but school was intolerable.

@AuntieDiana1969 Haha, sadly I've got about a couple of years here.
Anyway, thanks for caring.

The facts :
In the Netherlands per year at least 50,000 children are maltreated seriously.
Each week child dies to the impact of child abuse.
It concerns here all forms of physical or mentally violence, therefore including abuse, neglect and negligent treatment.
And this is only the figures on the basis of the number of reports. :-(

not sure I agree with your conclusions as you point exclusively too very rare events to make a point ,but well presented video .

@sausage4mash I wish these events were rare. :( They're not.

@AuntieDiana1969 I can't find any stats on infanticide so I conclude it's very rare in western society ,but nether the less it's a disturbing crime .
Can you see no benefits of social constructs in respect to gender roles ?

@sausage4mash Why in the world would NO gender roles be extreme? You asked the question so why don't you give us YOUR opinion.

So many suicides, so much harassment. Most horrendous bully stories are due to Gender constructs.
