  • Kevin and Andols are both good in their own way but in my opinion Kevin sounded better. Salvation is a sick song.

  • @drummerkevintalley What size sticks do you usually use? I have big hands and I've played with bigger sized sticks and still get blisters and callouses. Should I step up a size bigger or perhaps go smaller? Also, what other types of music do you practice to to improve your own style and composition for your projects? What are some good warm up techniques rudimentary that will help with coordination and overall speed and dexterity?

  • @Jltd4294

someone needs a new life ;)

  • drum cum

  • I fucking love the drums to this song. I've had it on repeat for the past week...

  • The thing thats always caught my eye with kevin talley is not only is he a skilled drummer but i havent seen a live video of him yet where hes not actin wild as hell and you can tell hes genuinely having fun. you can be the best drummer in the world but if youre not havin fun on stage then the crowds just not gonna get into it. so cheers to kevin for keepin it crazy

beat the shit out of them!!!!!!.

    fuckin classic????....

  • @pramfiller74 yeah talley is indeed a cool motherfucker

  • Hey Kevin you play better than Andols.. too bad you didnt stay in Chimaira :(

It would be Great if all the drummers in metal beat the hell out of the drums the way you do.. Some of them hit the snare like sissy girls (kinda like andols do...hahahaha)

    Cheers from Peru man!!!

  • kevin talley is god

  • My Bro Kev!!!! Definitely without a doubt one of if not thee hardest hitting MoFo I ever seen!!!! And I've seen a few :-)

  • "Chimaira" is still the best album!! Kevin Talley kicks ass.. i like Andols, but i prefer Kevin \m/

  • Zildian Z Mega Bell

  • simply put: fucking awesome...

  • Kev,is that a big bell ride,is that made by zildjan? it sounds amazing over that double bass

  • hey kevin do you have any problems whatsoever with that grip? you look so loose and im having a bit of a hard time in german grip.that would be so cool if you saw my post xD

  • Hey guys I am playing drums on this video and do a lot of session work and side projects so hit me up if you know a band that needs drum tracks. cheers!! kev

  • Awesome vid! Are you charging cold hard cash for these drum tracks or are they free? lol

  • @drummerkevintalley Good stuff. Pity you didn't get the position with Slayer...perhaps you could have breathed some life into those dreadful songs they've since written with Lombardo :)

  • @drummerkevintalley you that strapped for cash dude? Anyways, you are an amaing drummer, the line at the end of Pray for All is epic.

  • self titled would'nt sound the same without kevin on the kit!

  • i love chimaira... the self tiltled CD is still my fav album... nothing remains is byfar chimaira's signature song... well for me, not "down again"

  • this is tight as hell dude

you kick the most ass in my book

  • heavy hitter! your drumming for chimaira wasn't too technical, but it is certainly tight

  • w0aH kevin talley has a youtube account and actually uses it..so cool

    you own!

  • Andols is brilliant @ the studio, but you're WAY better live! And I love DAATH too! You rock man!

  • those pedals are insane!!!

  • Kevin Talley FREE SNARE, ZILDJIAN K CYMBAL, + more. I am holding a drum competition. Youtube search "Kevin Talley dying fetus snare" to see the details. Thanks!! Kev.

  • hey brother, you are really putting yourself on the map doing this youtube thing and being active with it.

i was looking for some inspiration to get back into metal drumming again, & i think i just found it.

    cheers mate

  • that song is a beast

  • i wish you would re-join chimaira, the album you made with them fucking ruled and your much better than andols, hes good but acts like a faggot

  • well i wouldnt say he acts like a faggot.

he's good but talley blows him outta the water. ive never really had a favorite drummer until i seen this guy play lol

  • anyone knows where i can find the video of this drummer when he tested for slayer?tnx

  • i've been looking for this as well... no luck yet

  • dude what kit do you use?

  • can kevin or someone who has alot of experience on drums settle an agruement i have this dude i know says melodeath and metalcore drums r harder to play then death metal and i say death metal is harder

  • It depends who is writing the drum parts. Some of Travis Barkers drum parts are more difficultthan a lot of death/hardcore/metalcore/etc. drumming. So the answer is that Chimairas parts are easier (technically ) than Red chord. But you don't have to be a great time keeper to play for the red chord... and you DO in Chimaira. For most drummers it is much more difficult to keep time than to play really fast or crush on double bass. Kevin Talley

  • @drummerkevintalley- Very well said.

  • Goddamn Sick. i Vote Kevin Talley To Make A video Of "Everything You Love".

  • your ride's bell is beast

  • i love how he plays with energy alot of drummers now just sit there and it makes them look like they dont want to be there lol

  • Amazing player

  • Dude.. you are so sick! I really admire your drumming!! I'm a beginner but hope to be as good as you some day.

  • yeah svsh9, try running cause it really helps improving your feet stamina. and just a lot of practice, in the beginning I could only play slow beats and not even Hatebreed double bass ;)ow and about the left foot: when doing high speed ryhtms, try to make your right foot sound a bit louder by hitting the right pedal harder than your left. this way, you can hear if your timing is correct so you only have to worry about the left foot, which of course will improve the longer you practice, g'luck!

  • man that megabell zildjian cuts through everything!

  • Kevin Talley DESTROY WITH CHIMAIRA !!!!

  • they had a sweet set at the guitar center by my house and normally i'll put headphones on the electric set. but i figured i'd play on the real drums. but they had the fucking stool so high i couldnt do any double bass shit. i like my stool low. or maybe someone tall as fuck was playing on it idk but it was a bitch.

  • that china sounds amazing

  • i need tips on how to get my leg muscles developed so can play fast double bass beats. like nothing remains, my right leg can go fast enough but then my left leg is just a bitch and cant do shit

  • dude go running it really works big time

  • yeh left side can be a bitch if your right handed cuz actually ur right side is more stronger than your left and vise vera if your left handed u just got practice practice practice and it will get easier with time i kno i have the same problem when i first started left handed blast but im always faster with my right tho so just run on a tredmill and sometimes legpress helps just make sure u do a double bass warm up that always helps get my feet going speedy

  • try to keep time with your left on the hihat whenever you are not playing double bass. thats the main thing kevin told me will help.

  • to dual bass fast like this you must dribble the pedals as you wood a basketball but with your feet, letting them hover a bit instead of having your feet pressed down on the pedals lift them off slightly and use the dribble method , try it out for a while and play with it to figure out how it works, i play barefoot, it's easier i find, cuz i dribble it off the front of my foot, not the heel, i only use the heel for slower dual rythms or heel toe.

  • u can really only get that from axis or direct drives. otherwise its really hard to keep even and powerful.

  • not really... i have pearl P2002C double kicks and i use the dribbling effect fine.. i get up to 250bpm at my gigs with dribbling so im just saying it differs for some people

    xx

great drumming, by the way, talley!

  • as a reply to "ilikememusic"

  • well u must have great technique because i suck at it.

  • thank you very much. it takes years of practise and preference, experiment with techniques which you like rather than what others like

    xx

  • Yeah I just use foot on pedals heels up. THat's how I get the most speed and power.

  • Hey man, if you read this, i'm from Ireland and i'm a metal drummer and i've been readin the negative comments and bout you bein a "shity person" but your what we call in Ireland a "buzzer" a person who likes to have fun dude. so fuck that asshole. If i could play drums like you i wouldn't care what people say coz 99% is most likely jealousy. Anyway enough of that, dude awesome drumming and i love the blastbeats. Do you use the Mike Smith finger tap technique???

  • This man, like Herrick is also a machine. Mad respects!

  • Haha nice dude Kevin has his own profile i thought this was a fake fan thing but omfg...its real Kevin^^

lol youre grooves rule, you make the simpliest rythms and hits amazing, every hit & beat in the right place, respect man!

  • Well said. Kevin's got great timing and rhythm for such speed. Everything falls into place and everything is incorporated into the groove. My kind of drummer.

Still liked him best in Dying Fetus though. He fit so good in that band. It was like getting thrown down a well coordinated flight of stairs.

  • Yeah man I know what you mean.

He's one of my few fav drummers who's not only about speed.

  • Hey Kevin, great stuff. You are from the baltimore area no? What kind of pedals are you using and technique, swivel, heel toe?

  • hes actually from texas but livs in the baltimore area. he uses axis a longboards. he uses regular singlestrokes i think.

  • but andols slays empire! nuff sed!

  • u play nothing remains way better then andols does

  • maybe cause andols didn't write it?

  • this guy is quality ...drumming suites the the riffs perfectly....in every sense in my opinion..

  • i'm FUCKING gutted i missed Chimaira in london when you played with them. andols is whack at laying down your tracks man, when i seen them in Reading, he played nothing remains like 3 times as slow, my grandmother could have done it. sucked.

  • Awesome drumming man..pity we dont get to see guys like you in India.. pls consider coming over .. pave the way for extreme metal here.. keep fukkin kicking ass!!!

  • You use That big bell Z ride huh?

You've played with a lot of damn good bands...I have double pedals, but I never use them. Can't stand the pedal feel of a slave pedal.

  • great stuff man, your drumming is incredible on the chimaira album

  • I saw u in modern drummer and I was wondering if you have advice for improving stamina and speed, aside from being absolutely insane. I get that speed comes from constant practice and experience, but what exercises do u do? U ROCK K-man!! (R those your Masters customs with the axis pedals by the way?)

  • Don't tell me

    that I am

    taking the

    easy way

  • Yow Kevin, Awesome drumming! But have little question, why do fast drummers like more 2 bassdrums kits than one bassdrum kit with double pedals on it?

    Thx in advance

  • slave pedals feel different than 2 single pedals. if you have a double pedal, move your left foot over to your right pedal and notice the difference. some drummers are better with a double pedal. some drummers have two bass drums on stage and still use a double pedal... so the left one isn't even used. They just use it for looks.

  • ok. Thx I understand now. Hope to see you playing in belgium soon dude!

  • aww man why do you say that?

  • ah he's just jealous he didn't come up with a policy as good as yours when it comes to playing drums: "treat 'em like a woman, beat the fuck outta 'em!" genius. hail, kevin.

  • dint mind him. hes just wat u call a dick.

  • no sound quality at all.. just some gu hacking up drums look at how high his arm comes up. Hack

  • why did u kick sean farber off your band daath huh? he kicks ass and if you get some lead singer of the band corpsegrinder some one who sings like that ill boycot you merch and cds and remove you off my myspace ge sean farber back or get someone who sings liek him damnit

  • u blasturbate to much

  • your so fuckingggggggggggggggg greeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttt dud

  • i will gladly fucking place this video in my myspace (sad to say i have one)...one word to discribe you, amazing

  • Hey Kev. I'm from Scotland, I have a drumkit made out of sticks, sheep skin and old rubber tyres. It sounds awful.

  • Hey Talley, great admirer of your work. Just wanted to know, how long can you play at full speed?

  • WOW, amazing drumming. I really like your drumming in DAATH. Keep up the good work, you're a big inspiration for me!

  • man kevin talley is an amazing drummer! that album owns, but when i saw them live andols drummed :| hes still pretty good though

  • DuDe ur an Awsome Drummer

  • hey man great drumming! you probs herd this question million times just wondering why the leave from chimera? loved the drumming you did for self titled album

  • well andols wanted to come back and mark is just not cool so i wanted out anyway. Plus the music was limited.... sorry to say that since most of you guys are huge chimaira fans. It's ONLY MY OPINION.

  • Yeah, mark does seem a little weird, So jim was your favorite?1?!? haha.

  • jim rob and matt are great dudes. I don't really know chris cause he was usually working on his computer doing band shit.

  • Did you have problems with the rest of the band or just mark.. Mark needs to stop being such a prick sometimes, If he was the only one who had a problem with you, why couldn't he just deal with it. And in every interview he keeps saying "we didn't get along with Kevin"...

  • Understandable. I'm a Chimaira fan and I know how limiting the music is, so no disrespect for your opinion.

  • He left for a few reasons. 1, because Andols wanted back in. 2, Mark and Kevin didn't really get along so there was tension between them. Lastly Kevin found the musical vision of the other band members limiting his playing and Kevin was feeling resitricted. So he bid farwell.

  • It's not that mark didn't get along with only him. He told me that mark just really isn't a nice person to anybody in the band.

  • do you ever use bassdrum triggers?

  • I use triggers and mics... that is best.

  • im self taught too wooooooo but i can't play that good

  • hey, Kevin! Great playing! I've got a question about your snare drum playing. Did you play rim shot on Slayer auditions video? Thank you! :)

  • no i don't think so. I just hit the snare hard cause it was so fucking loud in that room!!! It's better to not hit rim shots cause it (usually) makes snare hits inconsistant and your sound guy will bitch at you.

  • do you have any dbl foot pedal practices that boost your foot endurance on those longer straight double bass riffs

  • no I just have a good technique so my feet don't get tired. they used to, but not anymore.

  • hey man i love watchingyour videos your an awsome drummer, but your foot technique is it strictly heel up or are u swiveling your feet at all or heel-toe?

    thanks

  • yea my left foot "swivels" around but I don't really do it on purpose... it just happens. yes " heel up" 99 % of the time.

  • holy shit

  • Dude you rock! I was wondering what kind of stick you use????

  • ahead 5b. once you use these for 2 months (cause they are hard to get used to) -- you will never EVER want wood in your hands again.

  • oh, and for those of you that like the 5a stick feel, but want a heavier weight, get the pulse brand 5a's. they are decently heavy, and i use them in my speed workouts to build strength, but still maintain the same stick feeling. live i use the nova 5a's, because they seem to be the lightest, yet very strong and consistent. oh, and kevin, what pedals do you use, and have you ever considered axis, if you aren't on em yet?

  • yes i use axis... got them in 1996.

  • thats why you are a great drummer. you have the ability to play powerfully live, and play for a long time, and not rely so much on dynamics. thats why when i practice, i only go as fast as i can, without loosing power or precision, especially on the double bass. i am forcing myself to do the george kollias style swivel technique.

    keep up the great work!

  • That was intense, man! Extreme metal drummer having fun while playing? Don't see that too often, nice work.

  • he kicked ass in fetus

  • you know who else is sick as fuck the drumer from cephalic

  • Hi Kevin! Great to find your stuff from YouTube. I liked your work on Chimaira, although I'm an fan of Andols.

I'm sorry that things with you and the band didn't go fine in tour life.

Your work on "Salvation" and "Nothing Remains" were a good time to cover! I really liked the aggressive feel in Nothing and Salvation was great for cooling the temperature a bit.

Have an blast and good luck with your other projects!

  • twins are so cool ...

  • I've been practicing double bass pedal for almost two years, yet I still struggle at playing as fast as most chimaira songs. How long did it take you to become as fast as you are and are there any tricks at becoming fast?

  • haha... about 6 years to get to 220 playing about 15 to 20 hrs per week... every week.

  • thats the way its done!!!! treat your drums like your ex girlfriend, beat the shit out of them!!! haha j/k.. nice fucking drumming.. how long have you been playing?

  • started in 1989 when I was 10 yrs old

  • Hey dude, I like to play Chimaira etc on drums, but still my kit isn't tuned all that great, I have a drum dial tuner what would you recommend me to tune my kit at?

  • Hey KT.. well done dude :)

if you got a myspace profile, feel free to add me there and say what's up? just look for METALEX that's me. only real and Official METALEX on myspace.

I met Adam Jarvis 2 times now, when he had been on tour with Misery Index.. I'd love to meet you sometime in the future. I'll buy you a beer, cuz you've got talent bro! anyways take care. METALEX

  • i really like your mixture between technical and energetic drumming ... i wish i´d have your technique, i´m just hitting the s*** our of my kit ;) (stoner)

  • wtf you just say that he is awesome because you read it in a magazine? fuck man, you need to buy the daath albums to feel what he create! keep blastin' kevin, you're a great drummer, and a song writter.

    DAATH RULES

  • i think the band rocks.

ur a great drummer...u shouldn't be put in the lame sentence of lars ulrich (who blows btway ! lol)

not as fast (obviously) but in the same league as lombardo !!(who never uses triggers)

  • He doesn't live but def used triggers/replaced his bass drums on the new slayer cd.

  • i really liked the parts you came up with for this and salvation..do you just come up with and evolve the drum parts as you rehearse with the band - or is it something you take some time to think about before you approach it?

  • instead of the standard "follow the guitar" which I think is cheesy and played out. You will hear many beats on that record that don't follow guitar parts. Instead they either contrast, compliment, or shadow guitar riffs. Vinny paul did this a lot. think about the into riff to shedding skin and air drum the drum beat. Yes, the beat you will play is a fear factory beat... Now go and listen to "shedding skin" and listen to the beat. I did something similar during the verses of "salvation".

  • You always get people bitching here and there. "You dont do this right or you doing it the wrong way". End of story your a good drummer you have got somewhere. I have a question, Im not big into theory in drumming, since you are self taught did you learn much theory?

    And any tips?

  • i am self taught on the kit but I was in drumline so I know theory and how to read music. Being able to read will make you a better drummer.

  • kevin i just have to ask when u were in fetus, did you do the drumming on Killing on Adrenaline and Streaks of blood? for the recording that is?

  • yes both

  • Eh, im just going to presume you are not the real Kevin talley...

  • hey bro do you sit with your legs parallel to the ground? i dont see how you can double pedal so fast like that...guess cause your fuckin INSANE ha

  • The day i can play this song so good hasn't come yet :D so BRAVO! well done man. I love your drum parts they are all good exercises to practice.

  • Man you are an amazing drummer... I met you a few years back at Master PIzza in Cleveland before Chimaira officially announced that you were the new drummer. You may remember me, and you may not. If not its understandable. I remember asking you for advice on getting better at blasting. You said "Um, don't stop and go faster"... lol I will never forget those words haha. Take care man.

  • haha fuck yea thats awesome.... i am pretty sure i had some garlic that day. I do remember because it was the only time I went to master pizza. I miss Jim. Take it easy!!

  • that was bad ass you need to get back w/ dying fetus! =)

  • aight kevin im goin to see you and DAATH play at ozzfest so KICK SOME ASS cant wait see ya!

o and wat kinda pedals do you prefer?

  • what is wrong with tiny sticks I have it and it is so hard to come up in real speed with fat sticks I had 5a before and I tried 7a and they are nice

  • i use 5b.

  • Do u find that those sticks rip through cymbals cause i might get a pair.

  • yes be careful. just hit the drums hard and cymbals soft... but not too soft. I use 5b.

  • awesome job man!

  • I've seen all three drummers live now that Chimaira have had an can honestly say I think I prefer Kevin, Andols is awesome but even on the Self Titled I prefer the drums to the other albums.

  • what foot technique you use?

  • the "press pedal - hit drum" technique... is this why people hate me? I guess it's the heel up but it's only about 1 or 2 inches up... like george from nile except he is faster and a much much much better human being. Hi George!!!!

  • woah dude do you drum in a band perminantly and why do you have so many vids filling in for all these bands jsut cause for somereason their drummer couldent make it for some reason?some sick vids btw-thanx if you coudl answer my question

  • Usually these bands where inbetween drummers and I was doing fill in gigs so I just filled in for them. It was fun.

  • andols herrick or whatever sucks man, chimaira should stayed with kevin, he can kick andols ass....

  • This is a great song! Fantastic drums! I like your sound. Keep up the good work!

  • Kevin Talley sucks big black hairy cock i fucking hate him!!

  • yes disturbed are cool. But why do you hate me. Now i am sad....

  • sw1tched ur a dumbass this is kevin tally's video page, dont make stupid comments like that, their both sic drummers, any drummer who plays in chimaira is sic.

  • You know what I find kind of funny is that you've got people who rip on you (Kevin) for not having enough dynamics, and then you've got people who rip on you for not playing like Derek Roddy. Now, I respect Roddy a lot, but the guy has not really used any dynamics in his playing whatsoever. It's obvious that there is NO WAY to impress everyone. Therefore, it's best to play for yourself and hope that maybe, just maybe, people enjoy. With that said, KILLER playing dude.

  • exactly... fuck em. Nobody says anything to my face... they just cry on the internet... u don't have any dynamics... well when was the last time you heard a ghost stroke at a metal show... half the time you can barely hear the snare drum period. I do ghost strokes and dynamics all day long in my rehearsal space... but at a live metal show... it's pointless. Except for showing off for people standing behind you.

  • Bro, you're doing a great job of drumming here. You're very right about live drumming vs. studio drumming too. Especially once you've heard feedback from the audience, you'll understand how to play a certain way to make it sound better to the crowd.

  • The Best Double bass I've ever heard...you should read the shit they talk about Portnoy and Peart...

  • You are a big inspiration.

  • dude your awsome how do you practice double bass?

  • what the hell?! talley is an fuckin´ awesome drummer!!!!

i want to be so good too =)
