@LuminousSymphony I know it's an old comment but I HAVE to explain. The environment says unstable, right? That means other monsters are on the map (even the ones you've never seen before) besides your target.
Im a big great sword fan in all the monster hunter games, but I'm not a fan of the lvl 3 charge needing to be timed. Sure the pro's have no problems, but if you're new to the monster hunter its gonna be a bit harder. Also I have a lot of issues unsheath-charging. He seems to not want to charge from the sheath stance (to activate sheathing crit skills) any issues with that?
When you say the charge after the Slap makes more damage, i found out that using CC1 you need to Press UP + X as X alone will just do a regular charge.
You will notice as the charge animation is way different when you do it.
try the switch axe. just change it to a sword and you have a fast and more powerfull greatsword and axe! i bet you would defeat it faster that way. i always use switch axe! of coures i try different things but the switch axe is my favorite.
@SocialDissonance you forgot 1 thing. 1 of her attacks she flies up like shes going to another area but she doesnt then flies in a circle and comes down in a speed dive. i almost got hit by that a few times while drinking potions.
I've noticed in all your videos that you have a larger health bar then me. Is that due to youtube/your set up, or is that something you get via armour, or decorations?
@Craigus1337 certain decorations or charms can increase your max health. but the best way to increase max health is to use a max potion or eat a meal before any quest
@Craigus1337 A bit late, I know, but meat (not fish) and dairy will give you health boost+40 and def (M). Meat and meat will give you +50 health boost and meat + drink (wine or cola) will give you +40 health boost and att (S).
You're missing the inifinte charge combo. Do a normal charge, the do a slap, then do another charge and you can combo it inifinitely. BUT you mustn't hold the analogue stick at all, just leave it neutral. Otherwise you'll go into the twist charge.
@minkerdinke i find lance is best. keep guard up until it charges you, then release gaurd get in 1 or two stabs, then reguard. if you get the chance, do a guard attack or two whenever you can. they are weak, but fast and you dont lose guard when doing them
@minkerdinke lol i forgot to add. i did the double barroth capture with the Shark Attack lance (250 atk, 450 water, 2 slots and blue sharp) in about 25 minutes, solo.
How do you get that sword? By upgrading it each time ? ?
+ I want roay luthroth armor... Is it hard to get? I mean, i can get it but i need a Thingy to succeed the upgrade :( , The luthroth (royal) one i can get all the materials of the creature? ?

Greatsword is a fun weapon, but it's a bit more difficult than Lance or Sword/Shield and Hammer. Aside from the unsheathing attack, GS is your best friend when you can learn to control stamina consumption while rolling by timing your rolls until they are absolutely necessary. This is because the Greatsword can do attack cancels with rolls which can make it surprisingly graceful if you know how to wait to strike.

@Alateron1231 Trust Me Alloy is best. Hunter is ok... Be sure to check the skills of each armor though, to see which ones you'd enjoy... skills are semi-critical to understand.

@LiamOllie7777777 Hit the head with attacks that do KO damage. Probably not going to happen with a Great Sword. Easy with the hammer, kind of tough with the Sword and Shield, technically possible with a bowgun. Don't even bother with the lance.
@LiamOllie7777777 It's hard to stun with a Great Sword, but that slap attack that SD talked about in the video but didn't use much is the only way I think you can stun monsters with it. You can do a slap attack with the Great Sword by pressing the x button right after a veritcal/charge slash. Your character will swing it quickly with the flat side of the blade. It's really tough to stun monsters with it because it's not built for it, but it is possible.
You sead in the video that you cant stop a monster form eating, well you can. Just trow a flashbomb in front of the monsters head and the stop eating. I think you already know but I was thinking it would be nice to know.
pro seruously, my first time with the game i had jaggi armor it took me 49 minutes to kill her with bowgun -.- when i got further into the game i tried the barioth lance and killed diablos first time in 491/2 minutes. idk how you do it so quickly heh, got to HR 32 now i need a new wii so i have to restart!
Earlier i did something awesome. A barroth started charging at me nearly dead, i had focus so i charged up to a level 3 charge really fast and killed it in its charge XD
you said that any boost to the great swords multiplier is a good one. wouldnt the ame be for the sns? because if they are hitting so much any boost would be a HUGE boost right? or is the multiplier decreased for some weapons?
@TheLordRatatosk those buffs come in percentages, the additional damage isn't a fixed amount and thus it doesn't matter how speedy your weapon is at all. in other words, the weapon that can deal the most damage in a short amount of time will still remain the most damaging weapon.
@tatsuke234 hey, you should always use whatever you feel the most comfortable with. weapon choice is all about opinions. though, if you like SnS, it might be good to give it a try at first, because it's a quite well balanced weapon. GS is more recommended when you can predict a monster more easily and thus have a less hard time landing your full-charges.
i have a question, for great sword i often have trouble with some of the attacks... such as the charge, its very easy to know when to release i mean it gives you a huge window, but i just cant time it right.... should i charge with gs or just strike normally unless knocked down or immobilized?
@Ceath .. No offense.. but isn't that somewhat logical? ^^ Sorry, I know what you mean. The biggest problem is that people want to kill something in 10 minutes too fast ... I mean, in MHF I had an average of 45 minutes per G-class monster. And that was when I was able to avoiud every attack and killed X wyvern atleast 60 times.

You mean K.O-ed? being KO-ed come from chained, being chained comes from bad position or getting hit by a "SUPER EASY TO AVOID BUT WILL CHAIN YOU" attack ... or fighting Barioth. Everything boils down to the players knowledge of: X slash takes 1 sec, monster is open for 2 ... is it worth doing 2 slashes or run off?. Knowledge of wyvern, Knowledge of your weapon, common sense: and the only reason you can die is because online players hit you into a combo.... ugh

I've been using GS since I first started so far I haven't used a charge unless it was sleeping. But all your other tips about sheathing and dodging has help me tons. Especially fighting Raths killed my first Los using a Lagia Blade thanks to you.
The most exciting way to dodge a roar us when your a hammer user and you get hit by a great sword. Happened to me today when I was fighting the barroth.
@Android480 don't feel stupid for being new at games. i feel ashamed i ever had problems with barroths too, even with lances. we all have our diffucult humps we need to cross
Generally speaking, Jaggi GS --> Ravager Blade --> Siegmund --> High Siegmund. You might want to use a diff. GS between Sieg. and High, but the damage calculator tends to favor Siegmund and its upgrade until G rank (except there is none in tri). Also, the head is the weakest area, and I see you were hitting the head. Try staying a bit more to the outside and nailing the head with one shot (don't hold down R) then roll through and put away. Repeat this quickly for fast kills.
I know what critical draw is, but i am a bit confused when it comes to the great sword. When sheathed, if you go directly into a charged slash, does that also make it critical? Also, how does it work, would it turn the final damage output critical, or what it would do normally critical. As in, does it apply the critical modifier to the slash before adding the charge multiplier, or does it apply the charge multiplier, then the critical multiplier?
@Omegadragon4 Yes, unsheathing into a great sword turns the charged slash into a critical.
All a critical attack does is add an additional 1.25x damage multiplier into the damage formula. Due to the laws of multiplication we don't need to worry about where in the formula it is, it's just an added multiplier!
@SiLeNtDo0m Best thing to do is just focus on either one armor set or one weapon at a time. If you get bored of hunting the same monster, take a break, but go back at it until you can make the full set.

Level 1 charge is probably one of the worse great sword attacks you can do 2+ Chain Attacks>Level 1 charge.

BTW Dissonance the trick to the flash bomb is to throw it the direction the monster is looking at, not directly at the monster itself.

i have a question, for great sword i often have trouble with some of the attacks... such as the charge, its very easy to know when to release i mean it gives you a huge window, but i just cant time it right.... should i charge with gs or just strike normally unless knocked down or immobilized?

@Ceath .. No offense.. but isn't that somewhat logical? ^^ Sorry, I know what you mean. The biggest problem is that people want to kill something in 10 minutes too fast ... I mean, in MHF I had an average of 45 minutes per G-class monster. And that was when I was able to avoiud every attack and killed X wyvern atleast 60 times.
Good times... I guess I should do online high rank fights solo for the same deal in MH3 ^^

You mean K.O-ed? being KO-ed come from chained, being chained comes from bad position or getting hit by a "SUPER EASY TO AVOID BUT WILL CHAIN YOU" attack ... or fighting Barioth. Everything boils down to the players knowledge of: X slash takes 1 sec, monster is open for 2 ... is it worth doing 2 slashes or run off?. Knowledge of wyvern, Knowledge of your weapon, common sense: and the only reason you can die is because online players hit you into a combo.... ugh

I've been using GS since I first started so far I haven't used a charge unless it was sleeping. But all your other tips about sheathing and dodging has help me tons. Especially fighting Raths killed my first Los using a Lagia Blade thanks to you.

@Android480 the latter. Rathian is doable with any weapon, really, as soon as you get her movements, she's easy to predict.

Generally speaking, Jaggi GS --> Ravager Blade --> Siegmund --> High Siegmund. You might want to use a diff. GS between Sieg. and High, but the damage calculator tends to favor Siegmund and its upgrade until G rank (except there is none in tri). Also, the head is the weakest area, and I see you were hitting the head. Try staying a bit more to the outside and nailing the head with one shot (don't hold down R) then roll through and put away. Repeat this quickly for fast kills.

I know what critical draw is, but i am a bit confused when it comes to the great sword. When sheathed, if you go directly into a charged slash, does that also make it critical? Also, how does it work, would it turn the final damage output critical, or what it would do normally critical. As in, does it apply the critical modifier to the slash before adding the charge multiplier, or does it apply the charge multiplier, then the critical multiplier?

@Omegadragon4 Yes, unsheathing into a great sword turns the charged slash into a critical.
All a critical attack does is add an additional 1.25x damage multiplier into the damage formula. Due to the laws of multiplication we don't need to worry about where in the formula it is, it's just an added multiplier!

@SiLeNtDo0m Best thing to do is just focus on either one armor set or one weapon at a time. If you get bored of hunting the same monster, take a break, but go back at it until you can make the full set.
