Good music is what you makes your soul vibrant and gives you shivers down your spinal cord while making your body move in various ways you never could have imagined.
"Soul Thang" was an arrangement of "Phunky Fanfare" by Keith Mansfield and organist Alan Hawkshaw that used an organ rather than a piano. If this is cut actually from the real album, then they used the wrong song title for the track. "Soul Thang" and "Boogaloo" are the only tracks written by Mansfield. The others are arrangements of songs written by others.
Album Title: The Keith Mansfield Orchestra. Year: (1968). Format: Long Play Record. Label: Pronit, Stock Number: SXL 0986. Side "A" = A1: "All You Need Is Love". A2: "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling". A3: "Everlasting Love". A4: "Whiter Shade of Pale", A5: "Soul Thing", A6: "Moanin'". Side "B" = B1: "Walk On By", B2: "Lovin' Things", B3: "Reach Out", B4: "Take 5", B5: "Boogaloo", B6: "Rainbow Valley". Only "Soul Thang" and "Boogaloo" are original works by Keith Mansfield.
Funny thing, The kinks plagiarised this song. Even stranger is that If you make a google search you wont find any mention of this. But who cares.. I love both songs, but this is better. This song was released 1969 and The Kinks - Lola was released 1970.
This was our local drive-in's "The movie is getting ready to start" theme music. Yeah, I'm a bit past my prime, lol
It is forever burned into my memory banks and I am so happy that 3 of my favorite hip-hop people used this cool-ass tune in a song. Keith Mansfield , I hope you are happy for the rec.
At 2:00pm we go over live to Athletics, at 3 we join barry at Twickenham and at 4:45 we go to Des for all the day's round up but first we see how Suzi is doing at Val Thorens for the mens downhill, Suzi...........................Thank you Carol.
@Skelemelon You just can't say it can you? Might as well not even bother trying to say it. Trust me, I've been trying it for hours and I still can't. Just go with I love this song.
I'm not sure which one I like better, but I'm definitely feeling this version a lot more simply because of the 'sound' it gives. It's like an aged wine, I guess.
Yeah, this is definitely a separate track from Funky Fanfare. I mean it's the same music, but the instrumentation and voicings are all different. Different piano solos too. Really interesting to listen to the two back-to-back.
@pitrogol not to be picky, but Doom sampled the version called 'Funky Fanfare' - it's over in the related videos - would be mad nice if he sampled this one for a remix though...
my bad - it might have been Dangermouse who made that particular beat - I haven't actually heard it on any of Doom's Special Herbs albums and there's no specific production credits on thealbum inlay, now that I've checked. MYSTERIOUS
Hey guys, did you know that this amazing song was used by Quentin Tarantino and Danger Mouse on two separate occasions? This sure is an amazing song, and it's so nice to see mainstream artists recognize a true masterpiece... This song is just so positive; I don't think anyone with a true appreciation for this type of music could have a negative attitude while listening to it. Only a music-hating troll could possibly spread contempt with this song playing. Good thing that's not the case here :)
I like the song, and even more I like the artist. But it's really ignorant, no matter how well off you phrase it, to believe that your tastes, especially in music, are that much better off than the rest. Some people might just not 'feel' this tune, but that in no way makes them a troll
The track used is "Funky Fanfare", which is almost identical. I think it's the same song, just done by different performers. It was originally used for the Astro Daters series of snipes from the 60's. The use of it is a homage to older films.
Excellent tune, and I'm sorry, stillceaser is just a fucking idiot, borderline troll. He's making an issue out of fucking nothing like every other Youtube moron out there. DD heard the beat, liked it, and sampled it. What's the beef?
Trying to track down that they used in that song (I'm from the UK, we didn't have it played in cinemas or on TV), has turned me onto all of Keith Mansfield's wonderful composing. Doubtless it's done the same for a few other people too, so I give DD much credit.
I can only suppose you are a little too young to have a genuine conception. Of course, I have listened to the dangerdoom song, on numerous occasions. You howver, appear to have underdeveloped historical and cultural reference points with regard to music. It's funny that most of the messages on this thread credit DangerMouse as if he wrote the original composition. You are clearly missing the point. It is a touch banal.
Nearly every point you have tried to make is inaccurate as Danger Mouse has mentioned Mansfield as being an influence often, as well as the songs lyrics pay homage to the memories, thoughts, and feelings that many of Mansfield's works spark, thus pointing the importance of his accomplishments squarely back at Mansfield and thanking him.
That is pure shit, if you want to ride Danger Mouses dick, try not to be so obvious about it. The idea of a 'homage' is not only a subjective area but he's hardly going to say 'yeah it was just a straight jack' to a music journo is he now. So the 'inaccuracies' you waffle on are just wishful thinking on your part, you no-nothing, pompous and painfully moronic ass stain. Cheers.
The thing which irritates me is the fact that we hear Mansfield tunes on the TV all the time on this side of the Atlantic (and people remember them from their childhood) but nobody knows the guy's name because he was a library artist!
Dangermouse did a right number on the Keith Mansfield material from KPM for that DangerDoom album. It's a bit embarrassing really because they were invariably straight lifts and not fucked with which was a bit of a poor show.
