  • Asian countries like China and Japan are ancient countries with a culture and solid principles that put society before the individual; the needs of the majority above the needs of the few. Things like this are going to keep happening more often, because China is now a rising super power that needs to create great innovations like this to fuel its growth. This is just how things are, change happens.

  • China's Goverment Comphensation was $25 a month Per Person!

  • Lets hope the chinese dont invade Taiwan over the weapons sales by the USA or this dam could get a big red target stuck on it. i dont think it could take a cruise misile attack for long. I think german dams were attacked in ww2 made a real mess.

  • @solentgreen2020

the dam is over 100m thick of steel and concrete. it will take some time for it to fail.

  • @solentgreen2020 The army has announced attack on dam=trigger in revenge by nuclear weapon

  • @solentgreen2020 you canot cover the sun by glass

  • It is either hydroelectric power from the river system or the polluting intoxicating power of coal. China is trying to go away from coal power. Would the anti-3 gorges dam people on here prefer that china focuses on coal instead of hydro-electricty? I doubt it.

  • People in China will always have to move in the name of progress and development.

Would they prefer that the Yangtze floods every year killing hundreds of thousands? Chinese economic growth requires massive amounts of energy. This dam is essential for the hydroelecric power required by southern china. Millions of people will benefit. The silt problem will easily be handled by the technological innovations in the dam.

  • The government will have to face facts. The economic growth to which the people have become accustomed, will have to decline in order for extremely serious issues regarding pollution of the river, build-up of silt behind the dam, disappearance of wetlands fish and wildlife to be resolved for the future "greater public good".

  • Building a damn that big is just ridiculous. everything points to ridiculousness. you say it might save lives having all that electricity or water blah blah fucking blah, i say, it was never there and was never going to be there to begin with so there would have been no loss had it gone ahead meaning its pure greed than created such a thing and now it is there there is going to be a loss if such a thing fails. there. argument is impossible to interject. unless your a child and say "im an idiot"

  • It's called appropiation. Last time I checked every country in the world uses this practice in order to further the greater public good.

It's not news people that get appropriated are going to complain. Thanks for the idealistic propaganda, idiot.

  • This was a waste of news. Who cares about what the Chinese government is doing beside the people that hate China. China doesn't have soliders anywhere in the world killing people. I the U.S. want to talk about human rights just mention black americans.

  • @southbobby every world power on this earth is an oppressor in one way or another. I agree with you, but theres nothing wrong with showing what china is doing wrong, as well as showing what the greatest oppressor is doing wrong, USA.

  • Watch 'Up The Yangtze'.. really good movie about how the three gorges dam affects families in China .

  • Welcome to China's justice system. Chinese gov. are heartless and no respect for humanity. Hu and Wen should be charge with crime against humanity

  • No pain, no gain.

  • it's also done, let's look into the future. No matter what, future and human lives saved downstream are more important.

  • Unfortunately, the millions of people that died from floodings, year after year do not have their voice heard, and the tens of millions that was displaced by the flood can not settle down without fear of loosing their properties and lives afraid of the recurrent floods. The few that have short sightedness should know that they are , not only selfish and shortsighted, but also lack of common sense of knowledge, of the history and the future generations, their own children, grandchildren and more.

  • @notadino Sacrifices need to be made. When the great wall was built, a quarter of our population was lost, but the great wall acted as a defence for china for two thousand years. When china revolutionized agriculture in ancient times by redirecting the rivers, millions died in the effort, but the amount of farming done boosted our population greatly. China has a history of massive engineering efforts requiring sacrifice, but long term benefits ALWAYS require sacrifice.

  • I definatly think this dam is a huge mistake. I am currently writing an essay on why it is bad. Yes there are many pro's from building the dam, but at what cost? All those people being displaced so the bigger part of China will benifit in the future? That's bullshit, the government should not be aloud to do that.

  • Not only that but what if that fuckin thing breaks down. The Chinese government knows that area is Earthquake prone yet they spent 40 Billion dollars on it anyway for benefits in the future, yet destroyed billions of dollars of housing and ancient sites. I just hope that China will benifit for a long time from this monster.

  • This dam is 187 times the size of the largest dam in usa. It is also 72 times larger then the 2nd biggest dam in the world that is located in canada. China with a population of 1.3 bilion people needs this to survive as a civilization. This project was a good move by china. Fucking amazing!

  • this is a hardship of this projet, but not a complete one. you can see discovery videos about three gorges, that is more complete: the advantages and the disadvantages.

  • un giorno la natura si ribellerà a questo continuo abuso ...questo stupro che solo l'uomo crea...un giorno si ribellerà e la sua forza cancellerà tutto

  • Have any of you done the research? Of course this has become a hardship on so many that lived in the cities and towns that will be flooded along the Yangtze River. Yes, millions will be displaced but after thousands of years and millions of lives lost they will finally have control this terrible water dragon. I'll wager in years to come this will be proven to be a huge financial and economic success in China's future.

  • This can't be redeemed the chineese government are acting like people who buy jeeps to look big. They want to control the Yangtze. but why? to generate electricity that people will pay for with the money they earned building this inevitable disaster. and im a year 10 geography student so what do i know? if i can see this, why cant they?

  • China is now state capitalist in character. The Chinese workers need a new revolution.

  • anyways, i agree the movement is in a bad direction. the chinese government needs to realize that its manadate from the people is still as a socialist state. the calls for a "harmonious society" need to gain some meaning.

  • Very disturbing. Well done Tony Cheng for highlighting this.

  • This is the kind of predatory state fascism that the the Chinese government is known for. This is why Chinese people emigrate in huge numbers to many countries despite having high IQs and being known as sturdy and high workers. I hope the Chinese people will backlash against huge government takings such as this example.

  • i do not think the chinese state is an ideal, but the fascism analogy is a bit inaccurate. fascism was essentially funded from the start by large corporations and big buisness to increase their declining profits. these groups went from street gangs to well funded and organized political groups with business funding and worked for the corporate interests through wars, expansion, and the murder and oppression of constructive social groups.

  • the chinese state went backwards, starting with a constructive revolution to throw off the chains of imperialism and earn the right to grow by being able to shelter their markets from western economic imperialism through "free trade" and war. external pressures and misapplied socialism led to reforms that accepted state-capitalism, with the state sheltering business. only now is the state beginning to cater to some private chinese business that have been created.
