Wouldn't that be funny if the first time he insulted an opposing team's player he was given a yellow card and then he continues and he gets put off the team.
I think "Pitcher's got a big butt" became a catchphrase for a while after this. This story is basically what would become of Adam Sandler in "Happy Gilmore".
I went to a Braves game and yelled give em the cheeeese!!! give em the high stinkyyyy limburgerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! Everyone turned around and just stared at me.
i remember after watching this movie along with everyone else i knew watching it. we would always pick on whoever was pitching singing the "pitcher's got a big butt" gigg. haha good ol days.
This movie sucks on so many levels. First, they cast a New York Jewish kid to pass off as a Chicago kid. Also, they obviously filmed this movie in the late fall. The fake IVY is totally obvious and many of the trees in the shots in the movie (obviously) had no leaves. Not to mention, there isn't a single sunny day in the movie. A HUGE WTF goes out to the "Funky ButtLovin'" line as well...
@815oceanic815 yeah cause you're gonna get so much fliming done when it's baseball season, duhh.... and it's a movie, it's funny and more for a baseball player to watch and have fun, who cares about the facts
Yes, I take the fictional aspects of most movies for what it is; however, this movie's lack of effort just comes off as plain "lazy" and it is distracting as hell when you watch it. I was a kid when I saw this movie for the first time as well; and even as an adolescent, I knew that the directing of this movie was absolutely terrible. Yes, it probably has a lot to do with being from Chicago, but when you have works like Ferris Bueller and this trite garbage; there's no comparison.
@LikeABoss109 John Hughes got it right and was able to film a scene (a short one, albeit) during an ACTUAL game at Wrigley and during the actual summer/spring months of the year in Chicago. Rookie of the Year was so glaringly sloppy in its production that it takes away from the overall quality of the movie. There's a reason why this movie isn't celebrated in Chicago like most of Hughes' movies, because it doesn't even hold a candle to most of the EPIC movies shot in Chicago.
@KnightMD I loved it when Gary Busey walked in on the kid playing a GameBoy and chimed, "That's gonna make you stupid." That actually ended my (unhealthy) addiction to video games.
@lakebay972 As an avid gameboy gamer who was also top of my class, I was offended by the preposition he made there... but loved the gameboy scene nonetheless. BTW research has shown that children who were gamers have enhanced creativity and problem solving skills.
@KnightMD True, but the movie was from 1993; and video games back then were basically targeted to the lower common denominator. We have come a long way; but in some aspect, Gary Busey was right. Kids today are less articulate and more inclined to having health issues. There are lots of factors; but a large part of it is because of video games.
Love this movie!!!!
