That does hold true in many, but not all, cases; today's cops were once bullies in middle and high school. The only difference is those bullies decided to undertake criminal justice because the curriculum is much easier than business, accounting, engineering, and computers and probably leave those occupations to the nerds they ordered to do their homework. Those bullies eventually "saw the light"; since they are used to ordering others around, they decided to use that for peacekeeping.

I do agree with bizartch; our job is not as dangerous as others perceive it to be; most of us were taught DTA: Don't trust anyone, and since we are armed with firearms and self defense our chances of survival are much bigger. That does hold true in many, but not all, cases; today's cops were once bullies in middle and high school. The only difference is those bullies decided to undertake criminal justice because the curriculum is much easier than business, accounting, engineering, and computers and probably leave those occupations to the nerds they ordered to do their homework. Those bullies eventually "saw the light"; since they are used to ordering others around, they decided to use that for peacekeeping.

In many cases, it is true that, like all defense attorneys, they only serve the interest of the agency that hired him. That is one reason they are very cynical of the public and have this "blue curtain" alienating themselves against that public. They are there to make a living for themselves and their family; whatever that "to protect and serve" logo states is all PR: Public Relations.

I do agree with bizartch; our job is not as dangerous as others perceive it to be; most of us were taught DTA: Don't trust anyone, and since we are armed with firearms and self defense our chances of survival are much bigger. Those that get gunned down at schools and factories have to worry about the unexpected, and those are the ones unprepared for such disasters.
