You can catch them on the fly, but note: These are not the same bonefish you would catch in Florida, or Belize. We do not sight fish them in shallow waters. Good luck, James

  • I didnt know there were bonefish in san diego bay. I gotta go out and try to flyfish for em

  • San Diego is not the only spot in california that has bonefish. You can also find them around newport harbor, dana point harbor, basically anywhere warm, with a mud bottom.

  • An El Nino brought them in years back. What I would like to see is a pic of the snook that are also there. I know, but I have seen two of them caught from the post over my the Navy Dolphin pins next to Shelter Island.

  • we got snook in the sd bay?

  • BIG WOOP! nice jacksmelt! go back to the east coast!

  • I'm not from the east coast. I did win a trip to the Florida Keys once about 5 years ago, and went fishing with one of the best Bonefish guides in the area, but we didn't catch a single Bonefish. In fact, one week after being home from that trip, I caught my first Bonefish in San Diego Bay. According to our Department of Fish and Game, there are no Bonefish in San Diego Bay of any sizeNone ... Period. Now if I could just figure out the Jack Crevalle... BTW: thank you for the positive comment.

  • thingany,

Yes, that was really San Diego Bay. As a licensed guide in the state of California, I have to document my trips. Falsification of those documents can lead to the termination of my guide license. That will cause a loss of income for me and my family - an event I am not willing to bring about. If you want to attend a private bonefish charter, call me, or log on to the Fish Icon website, and we'll book you a day you will not forget.

    Peace,

    James
