meat in the US is cheap- I often buy hamburger or pork for on sale for $2/ lb. After purchase, I sparate the meat into sandwhich bags and put into the freezer. (Pork must be cut with a knife- careful!) In the afternoons I pull out a frozen bag and let it thaw over several hours. At night, after the dogs have been walked, I take the thawed meat and put it on the stove. After lcooking it rare, I mix with commercial dog food and add minced vegitables or fruits. (never feed dogs grapes or raisins)

Actually, cereals are a very small part of even herbivores' diets. The cereals we know today were selectively bred by humans from almost unrecognizable ancestor species that are much more like grasses. Feeding cows corn is almost as bad as feeding it to dogs, though in the case of dogs it's much worse since their digestive tracts aren't as good at processing carbohydrates.

@kendy4 Dried food is mostly corn meal. Some dried food bags have meat, rice, and vegetables in it. I feed my cats canned food with real meat, and dried food with meat, rice, and vegetables.

Cheap dry cat food does harm them. A cat is a obligate carnivore which means they don't have the digestive enzymes to process carbs which is exactly what cheap dry food is full of. Even if you can stretch your budget to feed them meat a couple of times a week that is better than none.

Wow, I just watched the video about "how it's made: nuts" before this . Except for the starting ingredients the video is almost the same. Same ovens, tumblers, conveyer belts, dryers and packaging. Nuts and pet food: not that much different!

@Uwaikai -__- I am Asian (middle eastern asian) and that "yellow stuff" is rice. There are different types of rice that vary in color. Matter of fact there are even red rice, green rice, blue rice, and even purple rice that exist. They can be naturally colored or colored by different ingredients that give off that color.
