He has been re-elected four times. note, people from the cities and county get to vote for him. He runs one of the largest sheriffs agencies in the country. an examination of public records reveals that Arpaio failed for years to demonstrate that he had the proper credentials to operate the county jails. This violates a state law that went into effect in 2003 and requires sheriffs to annually provide the Arizona Department of Health Services with proof that their jails meet national standards. From 2003 to 2007, Arpaio failed to provide such proof to the department.

Jail is not supposed to be fun. The point is to hopefully make a person NOT want to return. The only way to get there is to do something illegal. Do you agree? Now, keep in mind, I'm all for tougher crime enforcement. However, abusing current inmates does nothing to actually help the problem. The money being wasted due to the resulting lawsuits could be used to put more officers on the street, create neighborhood watch programs, drug education for minors, better training and equipment for officers. The police for the most part do a damn fine job of protecting people, but people view in extremes, and only a few "bad" ones are needed to spoil the image.

I'm not suggesting we treat prisoners to a slumber party. However, beating them is not the answer. I invite you to read his Wikipedia article. However, let's try something new. I will admit he HAS done good things. Providing free cellular phones to domestic violence victims, bicycle registration, these are all good solid programs. I'm not trying to say he's evil, or that all cops are bad. It is the face that the abuses have been continued and are costing taxpayers money that's the problem.

Absolutely! I am not a name caller or a person in need of hurting anyones beliefs. I am a person whom has seen personally what Arpaio has done in Arizona and have lived in OR,NM,CO and CA as well with not even close to the positive results Arpaio has brought to the table. It is not only in regards to the "tent city" scenerio but also the fact that he is one to actually do what he says he is going to do instead of waiting to see how it will work out.

So many politicians and policemen and state legislature reps etc., talk and talk and talk and never accomplish anything. It is nice that Arpaio tends to put the thoughts into action and deals with the repercussions if and when they arise. I do not believe that the prisoners are being beaten. I think that they are placed in an unpleasant situation but all and all it does seem to be effectively working.

The problem is that the lawsuits and autopsy reports, performed by the state, don't agree with that. It seems that more training is needed to teach the officers how to handle people who are disabled, mentally impaired, or have medical conditions. Withholding insulin from a prisoner, beating a man who is legally retarded for "not complying", these are actions that do nothing to help people as a whole. The simple fact is people ARE being beaten and abused. Not all of them have been convicted yet.
