A good way for kids to get a lesson in Black History month, and learn not all Africans are Black .Africa is ethnically and racially diverse like the U.S
I hated this movie, ever since I was young I knew this was fucked
I remember looking at pictures in my grandpas house of wild game in Angola but I will never do that because the niggers stole all our land and killed all the animals
there are almost no lions left in Africa because the blacks kill everything
South Africa was the most powerful and wealthy nation in Africa, now look at it today
it is the crime and rape capital of the world!!!!!! LOOK IT UP, so much crime and murder for everyone!
@ToothpasteKisses6345 No excuses: they were handed complete control over a basically functional developed nation, in a part of the world rich in natural resources.
Also, the apartheid regime had managed to keep going in spite of the handicap of being unable to trade with many countries because of sanctions.
The black regime have faced no such obstacles, by rights, they should have done even better!
@ToothpasteKisses6345 As sad as it is to watch South Africa slide into corruption, chaos and poverty, in a perverse way I want to see it collapse into the usual black African nightmare.
Because this will demonstrate to the rest of the world: here was a country that was by far and away the richest and most developed in Africa when run by WHITES.
But give control to the blacks, and in one generation they've fucked it all up.
@tHeWasTeDYouTh lol lemme know what section of Hell you get put into. But you know what, peace onto you brother. I hope you're blessed with a sound mind later in life.
@xsuki000 If you are referring to Mahree, it is unfortunate you see it that way. What happened to her was terrible, but I'm sure she wouldn't regret the friendships she made. The better person she became.
Also watching this because of MLK day. It's annoying how many people forget about what he did. America would be so different today if he never stood up for his race.
Hahaha sort of what I had to put up with growing up saying I was South African, when we came to America so many kids didn't believe me and called me albino. :P
OMG. disney classic!!!!!! a lot of people think that all disney channel movies are crappy and cheesy, but really, thats only the new ones people!!! old ones, like this, are awesome and worth watching!!!!
for a QUICK moment, she does look a lil like Raven-Symone WITHOUT all the make up and eyebrow work. no wonder she was cast to replace Raven's character in "Zenon the Zequel"
I'm probably the millionth person to say this, but I wish that Disney Channel actually made films like THIS now. You know... ones that actually mean something?
this movie inspired me to be an exchange student when i saw it forever ago.
i'm currently living for a year as an exchange student in mexico and learning to adapt to the difficulties of everyone expecting a "normal" american -- aka white girl.
It was 2009 I think when I first saw this movie.I LOVED it.But I had bad memory so the next day,I forgot the name.I searched for it for about a year until I just gave up.Then in 2010 I had a dream,it was the scene where Piper gave fries and a shake to Mari and being pissed. Then I looked for it again up until I found it today in 2011.The show and movies on Disney Channel are about anorexic girls thinking there all that with bad jokes. But this movie, possibly Disney Channels finest moment.
I actually learned things in old DCOMS, but now what do they teach you ?how to be a slutty dancer or wack singer. Glad I was born in '91 and and not after '95.
@samater16 i was born in 97' and i watched a lot of of classic disney movies like johnny tsunami, cadet kelly, the thirteenth year and a lot more, so i dont know what your talking about. i dont like the new crap movies either, and most of the people who watch it anyways are like 8 or 9, so yeah.
@koolkat1675 i didn't say every kid. The majority is like that. I have a cousin who was born in '98 and she doesn't like most of the old DCOMs, but prefers todays movies.
@nolanjuice84 from what the movie told us... Keffer basically means "nigger" so Bloody Keffer would translate roughtly too bloody nigger. like annoyingguineapig said, keffer is a really bad name for blacks
I remember when Disney Channel used to play movies like this every friday at 8 o'clock. I learned a lot, morality wise from those movies. I think my favorites were The Color of Friendship, Smart House, Cadet Kelly and The Thirteenth Year.
I remember in kindergarden I saw some sick racist kids picking on a little black girl (she was the only black little girl in the shool) So I stood up and put my doll on the floor. I went up to them and told them to piss off. (My parents cursed a lot, I didnt know it was a bad word at the time) Soon after that we became best friends. We saw this movie together in middle school and cried. We're both in 8th now. I love my best friend!! :')
I remember watching this and not understanding that the movie is based on apartheid in South Africa. I was way too young to concieve the conpcept of racism.
could someone help? there was a movie similar to this where an american family adopted a korean/vietnamese family and there was a particular girl who the mother tutored and she became really smart and stuff, i forgot what it was called i thought it was this :(
Oh my gosh thank you for uploading I first watched this movie when I was about 14 now I'm 20 this is one of my favorite movies it's great for people to watch and sends out a great message and it's a true story which is good I watch this movie everyday because it's recorded I love it so much and can't get enough of it I love Africa!!! :)
The movie is about friendship, no matter what colour a person is. And yet, I find it amusing that, for a movie with such a big message that's really meant to impact upon people, Disney chose the safest road by having the main black character be around about as pale as a black individual can be!
I find it amusing that regardless of the wonderful message that this movie has, all you can comment on is how having an actress that is the 'wrong shade of black' is safe. People come in all colors. If this movie impacts you less because the actress is still too light, then you miss the point of the movie entirely.
@SoraSlayer - Yep. I guess I do miss the point. But since the overall message of this movie is racial equality and diversity, it's absolutely useless to me in the first place considering the fact that my father is Caribbean and my mother is Irish. Pwned - and have a nice day. ^^
@Candie4JC maybe they did not want him to sound to nigerian because some people when they move to differnt parts of the world the accant changes a little
I remember watching this on disney like 5 years ago but i never finished it because it aired at like 2 in the morning!! So i fell asleep and i've never saw it on t.v agian so thanks now i can finally watch the ending!
when i was younger and didn;t understand anthing about what had happened in south africa, this movie confused me so much. i still liked it but i couldn;t understand the meaning. now watching it and 16 years old and to have more knowledge on the situation i enjoy this movie so much more. thank you for posting it !! :D
What happened to Disney!! We need to write letters to them or something. This is a good movie. With morals, teaching history, friendship, family, loss, hardship and so much more. This is what kids need to be watching
I think they could have gotten a South African girl to play the role, rather than an American. Quite frankly, she did the accent well enough but it was obvious she was faking it. I don't remember this movie but I'm glad I stumbled upon it. It's great so far.

It's really, really disheartening. Proud child of the late 90s/early 2000s!
@unicornalita ohhh it could be worse, you could have someone like snooki and Kim Kardashian going to the teen choice awards and given a award as people that influnce adolescent media.....oh wait that's already happened. no they new there were whitets in south afarica it never even went though there mind that it might be a white kid great movie though i hope the disney channel wouled make movies like this again
