  • A good way for kids to get a lesson in Black History month, and learn not all Africans are Black .Africa is ethnically and racially diverse like the U.S

  • omg, I never realized how horrible their accents were until now! Practice more! LOL!

  • @tHeWasTeDYouTh wth? you're crazy. Why can't blacks and whites live in harmony? The land is their land just as much as it is yours. So get along!

  • Little did she know this would be the worst decision she made, resulting in the end of her life.

  • @xsuki000 If you are referring to Mahree, it is unfortunate you see it that way. What happened to her was terrible, but I'm sure she wouldn't regret the friendships she made. The better person she became.

  • is this a movie from the 90s?im born in 2000 but i kinda like the 90s movies a little more :)

  • Also watching this because of MLK day. It's annoying how many people forget about what he did. America would be so different today if he never stood up for his race.

  • Watching this in honor of MLK day (Martin Luther King)

  • OMG. disney classic!!!!!! a lot of people think that all disney channel movies are crappy and cheesy, but really, thats only the new ones people!!! old ones, like this, are awesome and worth watching!!!!

  • for a QUICK moment, she does look a lil like Raven-Symone WITHOUT all the make up and eyebrow work. no wonder she was cast to replace Raven's character in "Zenon the Zequel"

  • daaaaaaaayuuuuuuummmm!!!!! i remember this movie!!!!

  • Awwww back when the days where disney was actually GOOD.

  • @jayden2595 amen to that. Even though Wizards of Waverly Place was

  • @jayden2595 yesssssss!!

  • I love thios movie.

  • Did the blacks, or did they not, have Africa first? Then again, I could ask the same questions for the Native Americans.

    *sigh*

However, this is NOT the place for racial debates, so...

    I love this movie!

I've spent FOREVER looking for it (seeing as how Disney doesn't play it during Black History Month anymore, like they used to).

  • i miss the old good disney movies they havent made good movies like this in a while! :)

  • this movie inspired me to be an exchange student when i saw it forever ago.

i'm currently living for a year as an exchange student in mexico and learning to adapt to the difficulties of everyone expecting a "normal" american -- aka white girl.

  • Ah yes. Here is a REAL Disney movie. Don't see these much anymore...

  • i'm watching thi movie in english and i cant believe this is a disney movie

  • Flora's accent isn't south african at all..

  • It was 2009 I think when I first saw this movie.I LOVED it.But I had bad memory so the next day,I forgot the name.I searched for it for about a year until I just gave up.Then in 2010 I had a dream,it was the scene where Piper gave fries and a shake to Mari and being pissed. Then I looked for it again up until I found it today in 2011.The show and movies on Disney Channel are about anorexic girls thinking there all that with bad jokes. But this movie, possibly Disney Channels finest moment.

  • I actually learned things in old DCOMS, but now what do they teach you ?how to be a slutty dancer or wack singer. Glad I was born in '91 and and not after '95.

  • @samater16 i was born in 97' and i watched a lot of of classic disney movies like johnny tsunami, cadet kelly, the thirteenth year and a lot more, so i dont know what your talking about. i dont like the new crap movies either, and most of the people who watch it anyways are like 8 or 9, so yeah.

  • @koolkat1675 i didn't say every kid. The majority is like that. I have a cousin who was born in '98 and she doesn't like most of the old DCOMs, but prefers todays movies.

  • bloody caffer? what the hell does that mean

  • @nolanjuice84 from what the movie told us... Keffer basically means "nigger" so Bloody Keffer would translate roughtly too bloody nigger. like annoyingguineapig said, keffer is a really bad name for blacks

  • The little caucasian boy is Ryan Cooley from Degrassi!(:

  • I remember when Disney Channel used to play movies like this every friday at 8 o'clock. I learned a lot, morality wise from those movies. I think my favorites were The Color of Friendship, Smart House, Cadet Kelly and The Thirteenth Year.

  • thank you

  • since when did disney channel have a movie lyk dis

  • @liz30693 These are older disney movies from the 90's

  • @mochamegan123 this was made in 2000!

  • I remember in kindergarden I saw some sick racist kids picking on a little black girl (she was the only black little girl in the shool) So I stood up and put my doll on the floor. I went up to them and told them to piss off. (My parents cursed a lot, I didnt know it was a bad word at the time) Soon after that we became best friends. We saw this movie together in middle school and cried. We're both in 8th now. I love my best friend!! :')

  • I remember watching this and not understanding that the movie is based on apartheid in South Africa. I was way too young to concieve the conpcept of racism.

Ah, to be young and pure

  • could someone help? there was a movie similar to this where an american family adopted a korean/vietnamese family and there was a particular girl who the mother tutored and she became really smart and stuff, i forgot what it was called i thought it was this :(

  • I remember this was on TV a while ago, one of my favorite Disney Channel Movies! :)

  • Oh my gosh thank you for uploading I first watched this movie when I was about 14 now I'm 20 this is one of my favorite movies it's great for people to watch and sends out a great message and it's a true story which is good I watch this movie everyday because it's recorded I love it so much and can't get enough of it I love Africa!!! :)

  • I can't stand racist people!

  • sound quality is great! thanks

  • The movie is about friendship, no matter what colour a person is. And yet, I find it amusing that, for a movie with such a big message that's really meant to impact upon people, Disney chose the safest road by having the main black character be around about as pale as a black individual can be!

  • @gOtHiCxAnGeLxox

I find it amusing that regardless of the wonderful message that this movie has, all you can comment on is how having an actress that is the 'wrong shade of black' is safe. People come in all colors. If this movie impacts you less because the actress is still too light, then you miss the point of the movie entirely.

  • @SoraSlayer - Yep. I guess I do miss the point. But since the overall message of this movie is racial equality and diversity, it's absolutely useless to me in the first place considering the fact that my father is Caribbean and my mother is Irish. Pwned - and have a nice day. ^^

  • @gOtHiCxAnGeLxox you haven't seen my sister.

  • @Drumlady12 - No, you're right, I haven't. But if it's of any consolation (to myself, at least), I doubt I'll be missing out on much. ^_^

  • I cant see the dislike bar anymore cuz i just liked it and made it 24O likes, :)

  • racist.

  • it's Hadley from TrueBlood.

  • aw. "HIIII, DAAADDYYY." XD

  • thumbs up if u waching diz in 2011

  • @mindlessjaray thumbs up if you know how to spell 'this'

  • i loved this movie!!

and im Nigerian... and nigerians do NOT sounds like that when they speak haha. nice try, Disney :)

  • @Candie4JC IKR.! im nigerian too, he sounds lik he's from idk kenya or Zimbabwe or somethin lol

  • @Candie4JC maybe they did not want him to sound to nigerian because some people when they move to differnt parts of the world the accant changes a little

  • @Candie4JC ikr my friend she is nigerian but she has been in amerca in along time so she probbally got the ascent away

  • Like the boy just dropped it the man pushed him off balance

  • I was like 5 when this came out and i couldnt believe they said nigger on disney lol

  • I remember watching this on disney like 5 years ago but i never finished it because it aired at like 2 in the morning!! So i fell asleep and i've never saw it on t.v agian so thanks now i can finally watch the ending!

  • when i was younger and didn;t understand anthing about what had happened in south africa, this movie confused me so much. i still liked it but i couldn;t understand the meaning. now watching it and 16 years old and to have more knowledge on the situation i enjoy this movie so much more. thank you for posting it !! :D

  • Those to girls look sooo pretty!!!! :D

  • What happened to Disney!! We need to write letters to them or something. This is a good movie. With morals, teaching history, friendship, family, loss, hardship and so much more. This is what kids need to be watching

  • I think they could have gotten a South African girl to play the role, rather than an American. Quite frankly, she did the accent well enough but it was obvious she was faking it. I don't remember this movie but I'm glad I stumbled upon it. It's great so far.

  • Oh the racism at 7:23. We were too young to know what that meant.

  • @maefan86 IKR!

  • Oh white people in the 70's

  • this was THE BEST dcom ever!

  • Why is there so much trash on Disney now. -_- There are no morals or messages abymore!

  • i love this movie and it is so amazing and such a grea movie its a good movie to learn and watch from

  • its baby J.T from degrassi

  • @babybluecful omg! I totally didnt know that..

  • When I first came to America across the Pacific, it is the first movie I saw :D

  • oh gosh a baby version of J.T (from degrassi the next generation)

  • what program do they do that lets children spend a semester in a foriegn country?

  • @EvansvilleIceMen71 Foreign exchange programs.

  • What is the name of that song?!? I love that song. . .And this movie! XD

  • OMG they're actually playing this movie right now!! :) YAY

  • Thank you for posting this, I have been looking for this movie for years!!

  • lol "u have one life dont push it" funny shit

  • AWWW SNAPPP!!!! damn.... its not just the music.. thats getting horrible now.... the shows are too........ dmn i miss 90s nick and disney channel..... now they BOTH STINK

  • I found the song at the start: LTD - (Everytime I Turn Around) Back In Love

  • What's that song at the start? :D

  • Maybe this is cheesy or something but I literally want to cry thinking that kids aren't learning important lessons like this from the media anymore...I firmly believe that movies like this shaped me to be a better person and now kids are getting High School Musical and Hannah Montana where all they're learning is to hide who they are, lie to the ones they love, and kiss a boy by age 13. It's really, really disheartening. Proud child of the late 90s/early 2000s!

  • @unicornalita I couldn't agree more!

  • @unicornalita ohhh it could be worse, you could have someone like snooki and Kim Kardashian going to the teen choice awards and given a award as people that influnce adolescent media.....oh wait that's already happened. I think its alright that kids/teens are in to kid/teen things like that just know it could be worse! other than High School Musical, Hannah Montana and Justin Bieber they could be watching jersey shore or keeping up with the kardashians.

  • @unicornalita u have 2 watch the hanna montana proprely and interpret it proprely....:p seems like u didn't get that movie

  • @unicornalita im a 13-year-old girl in high school............so that doesnt really work out for me

  • no they new there were whitets in south afarica it never even went though there mind that it might be a white kid great movie though i hope the disney channel wouled make movies like this again

  • I haven't seen this movie in the LONGEST time!!

Sigh......the days when I would drop any and everyone for the Disney Channel. :(

  • this is REAL and this was when Disney had meaning.

now...it is just prissy cookie cutter shit. :(

  • an amazing movie. i used to love this movie. GOD, i miss old disney back when i was 6 and 7 ;(

  • Comment removed

  • you mean...disney movies aren't all about love and boyfriends?!

  • OMG i actually found it man i havent saw this since i was maybe 15 and im 21 now wow flashbacks down memory lane

  • movies with meaning.

  • i love this film

Disney doesn't make movies like this anymore

Movies that are meaningful and have a purpose

  • 4:50

  • Happy Freedom Day! I'm watching this in celebration!

  • i love the old disney movies!!

  • I use to love this movie! :D

  • SO YOU YOUNGSTERS KNOW, THIS WAS AROUND THE TIME SOUTH AFRICA FIRST STARTED TO REBEL AGAINST THE DUTCH/ENGLISH. THATS WHERE THE PLOT COMES FROM

  • this was the first movie when i actually learned about racism.....and i was huh? cuz i was young...i was like why do people hate other people

  • THEY DON'T HAVE SOUTH AFRICAN ACCENTS..IT SOUNDS TO ME THAT THE LADY, THE GIRL AND BOY HAVE AUSTRALIAN ACCENTS

  • @Purpleiciousbabe It sounds New Zealand mixed with Dutch, I think they were aiming for an Afrikaans accent.

  • ok i think im missing something blacks an whites dont get along but at 9:17 hes talkin to one

  • @JustinDrewBieber170 at 9:17 they are in america. the black and white conflict goes on in south africa

  • Thank you profusely for uploading this; out of all the terrific Disney movies, I think this is my favourite =) Wish the world would take a lesson from Disney!

  • they should replay old movies ... like "the old disney moments" and there'll be all the old shows and movies! I could see even stevens AGAIN!!!
