My heart goes out to the camera people filming, I can't imagine how it feels to not be able to stop the pain and suffering in order to do the undercover filming. My heart is shredded, for the animals & for the ignorant people that think it's all a apart of the food chain, or are subject to the Law of the Jungle. We don't live in a jungle, we as westerners, are suppose to be "intelligent" beings, able to make proper choices, not only for ourselves, but for the animals who have no voice!
when we can survive by eating vegiarian, all this suffering to animals for my pleasure is not worth. if there is no choice in this earth i might think of consuming them, right now im a happy vegan ..people want to believe that the whole world is consuming whats wrong if 1 more person adds to it will make not much difference..) so who ever thinks that way tries to just feel better..) i do consume eggs..now im thinking of quitting it as far as possible...

I TOTALLY agree that animals should not be treated this way. What difference is there between a baby cow/pig/sheep and your own puppy or dog?
We treat our dog's like family in the Western world, yet we treat the animals that feed us like total crap. We are omnivore's, and although I don't agree that we should all be vegetarians, the animals definitely should have more respect.
To all the close-minded, cruel people who oppose the truthful message this video is trying to convey:
Whenever people say "we mustn't be sentimental", you can take it they are about to do something cruel. And if they add, "we must be realistic", they mean they are going to make money out of it.
people these animals are there for a reason, we are the dominant species of this earth so we should take advantage of these oportunities. you may think its cruel but think what it would be like with out meat. is sad in someways but it will never change my way of thinking.
A world without meat... Fewer people would suffer the diseases consumption of it is strongly linked to; less money would be spent on healthcare; more food would be available; fewer environments would be cut down to create land as less land would be wasted (and destroyed by erosion of topsoil); chefs would get far more creative with food; there would be less suffering... ah i'm sure the list goes on. What were you taking about?
Actually, your "facts" aren't true. Less food would be available as grazing land is not suitable for crops. Erosion happens because of farming...crops. If you wanna fight something fight processesed foods. Your superior Utopia world is silly and dogmatic, as well.
Ah, but we would have more food purely because we wouldn't be feeding all the grains to the intensively bred and farmed meat and dairy animals. Besides, I'm pretty sure a lot of the land we now use as grazing lands would be suitable for crops. But whatever, I can't be fruitcaked getting you sources...
I'm sorry, but we make plenty of food as it is. The issue is money and getting it where it should be. And it's grazing land because it's suitable for that, because of bad soil types, drainage, terrain and the like. A lot of animals that we use for food can break down cellulose in plant matter, which we cannot. so, best to use that land towards that. And you know what part of the grain plant is used most in conventional farming, right? The part we can't eat!
We are supposedly the dominant species only by way of intellect, this intellect is what differentiates us from any 'top of the food chain' crap. Our intellect means we can reason and I believe it gives us a responsibility to refrain from such unethical acts. Consumption of meat is an antiquated method of survival that just aint necessary no more. We can and thus should use our heads and compassion to see beyond such ridiculous practices as the consumption of meat in modern society.
Uh, sorry, nature doesn't work that way. We have a big brain because of meat, the protein, fat and chemical makeup is very good for humans. I understand your feelings on compassion, but this is the way of life, and life is built up on death.
there is no such thing as "happy meat". that's equivalent to happy rape. the two don't go together. these animals WANT to live and do NOT want to live in fear and pain. wake up! as long as you consume animal flesh, you are condoning this cruelty.
I'm about half-way thru' your book about Farm Sanctuary. It's a real eye-opener. If people can't give up meat entirely they should become informed so they can lower their meat consumtion. These factory farms are as bad as the Nazi death camps and the people working in them must be just as hardened. You made the point in the book about how all sorts of drug, family violence & pollution problems result from these farms too. Not good for animals = not good for people .
Ok, not all farms are like the first half of the video. That just makes me sick. I have nothing against farms, i do eat meat, etc, but cruelty like that is nasty
not all farms are like this, but the farms you are talking about hardly exist. there are barely any family farms. this is a movie about factory farming. all factory farms look like this.
This is very sad, especially the cow which is going for her calf while is taken away... Made me feel so sad and week... Poor animals, after this people should consider their behavior to them. We are all God's creatures on earth.
i am joe nobody. i eat chicken and beef all the time. i read the post and watch the vids about this stuff. i must tell you - we need to treat these cows ,chickens, ducks better than we do. i dont care if it cost more. ITS NOT AMERICAN TREATING CREATURES LIKE THIS. I DONT LIKE IT. joe nobody
i'm more worried with people who buy durgs and support traffic and crime that leads to thousends of children deaths. after that is fixed, i may worry about the animals.
compassion is not exclusive. In fact, think of all the children who die of starvation - who we could feed with the crops we feed to livestock instead. The ratio of pounds of grains it takes to make lbs of meat is 20 to 1. Also don't forget the amount of drinking water and land cattle take up where we cold be giving clean drinking water and land to grow food for those starving children.
Did you know 1 bushel of corn = 17lbs of distillers grains from an ethanol plant? Right now i have cattle gaining 3.5lbs a day with less than a 1/3rd lb of grain. All this grain being unedible by humans.
Do you know how much fuel it takes to farm land? Do some more research, cause your "facts" are uneducated.
Also, farmers and rancher stick thousands of dollars into each cow they hav,. what good would it do them to abuse or injur them?none. Thats why farm animal abuse is NOT common.
"If all the grain currently fed to livestock in the United States were consumed directly by people, the number of people who could be fed would be nearly 800 million," David Pimentel, professor of ecology in Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, reported at the July 24-26 meeting of the Canadian Society of Animal Science in Montreal. Or, if those grains were exported, it would boost the U.S. trade balance by $80 billion a year, Pimentel estimated."
How do you plan to grow this grain if we arent grazing the land with cattle? DO you know how much diesel fuel (pollution) it takes to cover farm land? Land in Americas western ranges cannot be farmed without MASSIVE irrigation. Even then, little is possible due to soil type and lack of rainfall.
So this 80billion you talk of is foolish, because that amount of crop could never be grown.
its already being grown... and being fed to livestock. You just don't get it... use your brain.
Oh, Yes... these nefarious ecologists and scientists are making this up and benefiting from spreading these 'lies'..um..how, exactly? Certainly not financially (as opposed to the multi-billion dollar animal-foods industries whose very existence depends on keeping what goes on hidden and greenwashed).
No, fucking moron, whats being grown to feed animals is GRASS. NATIVE prairie grass.
Most beef in the USA comes from "feeder cattle" feeder cattle come from momma cows or "cows". "cows" graze on grass for up to 7 months of the year, usually with the calf beside her until 5-6months. The land this native grass grows on is generally NOT FARMABLE.
I never accused them of making anything up, but they better pull their heads out of their asses because anyone who knows cattle knows the truth.
Incase you havent figure it out yet, I'm an American farmer and beef producer. Don't sit there and tell ME what it takes to feed a cow. People using these youtube vids for their education of the beef industry are fucktards. All your theories are so laughable most people probably dont take you serious.
The United Nations released a report in 2006 called Livestock's Long Shadow. I suggest you read it so you can avoid making statements like the ones above.
It's not just about beef. Every year industrial animal factories in the U.S. feed 157 million metric tons of legumes, cereal and vegetable protein to livestock, resulting in 28 million metric tons of animal protein for human consumption. Nutritious food that could feed humans instead is fed to animals in a very inefficient use of resources.
Ok, so its not just about the beef industry.. but what % of those numbers is in regards of the beef industry?
Do you know how much ethanol biproducts are fed? Whats the problem with that? We grow non-edible corn to fuel our vehicles, and feed our cattle which in turn feeds humans.
A rough summary of Livestocks Long Shadow still doesn't answer the questions of how much fuel it would take to farm pasturelands? And how many millions of gallons of water it would take to irrigate it? Then how much it costs to get that wheat kernel from the field to a piece of bread?
A large portion of cattle dedicated land is simply not -farmable.
All those facts sound great but, the reality is most wouldn't receive the grain anyway.. Politics, greed you name it.. This isn't a perfect world.. People in the USA love their meat...
"Chicken meat production consumes energy in a 4:1 ratio to protein output; beef cattle production requires an energy input to protein output ratio of 54:1. (Lamb meat production is nearly as inefficient at 50:1, according to the ecologist's analysis of U.S. Department of Agriculture statistics. Other ratios range from 13:1 for turkey meat and 14:1 for milk protein to 17:1 for pork and 26:1 for eggs.)"
"When the Nazis came for the communists, I remained silent; I was not a communist. When they locked up the social democrats, I remained silent; I was not a social democrat. When they came for the trade unionists, I did not speak out; I was not a trade unionist. When they came for the Jews, I remained silent; I wasn't a Jew. When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out." - Pastor Martin Niemöller
Wow! I can't imagine what this world would be like if the aboltionists weren't oncerned about slavery and only "their own problems". Or what kind of world it would be like if Human rights advocates didn't concern themselves with child labor and only "their own problems". Or male suffragetts cared only about themselves and not women rights. What kind of world would we be living in if everyone only cared about their own problems and no one else's?

Ah well, it's just how things work. No need crying about it. The cows and stuff probably weren't going to do much with their lives anyway...were probably gonna get eaten by something at some point.
what a stupid thing to say. It doesnt matter what they were doing with their life its matters when animal are made to suffer. Imagine you were treated like some of these animals are .Just left to die in a cage. NOT A GOOD LIFE.
im with BrandonS1994, i mean...like i said i dont buy the extreme food, i buy free range from local produce.
and like Brandon said, the animals are a source of food, and me going vegan will not stop that, so im going to go the way that nature intended, and im going to get my vitamins and minerals naturally from meat by keeping on eating meat. we wouldnt have canines if we were meant to eat leaves and nuts all our lives. lets all live our lives for christs sake, why are we arguing over meat?
im not vegaterian, but i dont eat any factory crap
i buy locally produced stuff, so i know the animals have been treated with respect ALL their lives.
but @ LARAMONExALFNOWx , cats and dogs arent bred to be food, a chicken is. I have upmost respect for the lives of the animals, but at the end of the day i know the reality is that i will eat some form of meat in my life time, so i agree with eating meat, but as long as respect is given to the animal
'Factory crap?' ALL poultry, eggs, etc comes from factory farms, no matter how big or small they are. Their sole purpose is to raise and kill animals for profit. so go ahead and delude yourself, that you're a great person bc you ONLY eat dead flesh from animals supposedly not from 'factory crap'. God, some people are so fucking ignorant.
i know, and i respect your love for animals i love animals to death but at the end of the day, me being vegetarian or vegan isnt going to stop anything to do with farms.
i respect that you dont eat meat, please respect that i do
tomaskas, if it were only about you and me, then having a mutual respect for our differences makes total sense! Unfortunately, you exclude the perspective of the animals. You can't just ignore the fact that they have something at stake in this scenario because it's convenient. So no, I do not have to respect your decision to ignore the animals if i am speaking up on their behalf. Imagine if I said "I respect that you don't hit your kids, and you respect that I hit mine." See the problem?

so you think senseless murder is a form of respect. wow. i hope you realize that as long as animals are being treated as mindless commodoties, as they are even on local farms, they are being treated horrendously.
food is a thing - animals are not things. as long as you support those who treat animals as food, you are disrespecting them completely and taking away the dignity that all beings should have.
viva veganism. try it. i promise you will like it.
Senseless murder means there's no reason behind it. We kill animals for food, just like we've been doing since our species came into existance, and so on.
It has nothing to do respect or anything like that. Meat is a NATURAL part of the human diet, and I plan to keep eating meat. But I do hope to switch to mostly deer and Elk as I enjoy those meats immensely. I reckon it's better to kill your own prey anyway.
exactly. there is no reason to kill an animal for food when there are countless other options. it is senseless murder. we don't NEED to eat other animals, and in fact, we shouldn't. it is about as natural and healthy as filtering water through a sewer and then drinking it.
you realize killing deer and elk so you can feed off their corpses is saying "my hunger is worth more than your LIFE"? that is a horrible way to treat others.
to continue eating meat is selfish, irresponsible, and dumb.
each and every goverment in the world, is your enemy, they are the ones who allow this, it does not matter the party they are, the only thing that matters is that they allow this hell. you can kill animalls for food, as the human being has done for ages, is natural, but that is not natural, that is a consecuence of the stupid capitalism and neoliberalism. so we must fight against each and every goverment on earth, becouse is not only this, wars, weapons, coltan... the are the ones who allow that.
that was hands on the hardest thing ive probably ever watched. How can people do that?Damnit people!cant they see the animals trying to live?!!?! i mean its one thing if it has no brains or soul, but these are living creatures!!! dont htey deserve a shot at life? And its worse that in reality, if people all watched this, it would probably, most likely stop.
Watch the documentary 'Earthlings'. It'll absolutely change your life, and you'll be hard pressed not to sob the entire way through at mans' callousness and selfishness.

I'm 13 and vegan, thank you very much for the vid, gonna use it in my presentation in the boyscout troop and maybe they wont buy meat for the next camp out or better yet... wont buy meat.
I was at farm sanctuary and it was great :) giving belly rubs and playing "Hit my hand with your horns" with the goats and it was winter so feeling the sheeps warmth as well :)

i dont see the problem with killing the animals, i mean come on, we need them for food. It should be done as quickly and painlessly as possible. but bringing the animals up in ways like this is horrible, it should be stopped, and the only way to do this is to educate people where their meat comes from, because most people dont actually know that animals are brought up like this
Please stop perpetuating the myth that "We need them for food". If you have access to a decent selection of nuts, vegetables and fruits, you do not need to eat flesh. In fact, you can even do better without it. Meat "production" is unsustainable, wasteful, polluting, unethical and in a society of abundance, completely unnecesary.
The first part of this video was one of the hardest things I have ever forced myself to watch. To all of you that think you can't live without it - face it, meat is murder. I have never regretted my decision to give it up 20 years ago! There is no humane way to slaughter another sentient being. Thanks for posting.
Look up the video named "Earthlings" (not sure if it's on youtube, but it's on google video I think..?). If you had trouble with this one, have fun with Earthlings... =S
The title of your video says it all. It doesn't have to be this way. It saddens me and I would stand with you anyday to try to help stop this cruel treatment. Thankyou for posting..
my heart just like stopped for a sec watching this video... but not all people can help... we or many people do or just gonna have to eat meat ... and oraganinc or factory farmed, they are destined to be slaughtered, and theres no ethical way to purposley kill a living thing even euthanisia.. its like silent murder.. but all i know is this is gotta stop and this is wrong!
YES on proposition 2! The passage of this proposition would require that animals have a space large enough for them to stand up and turn around. Birds would have space to spread their wings. These animals have short, unnatural lives. The least we can do is treat them humanely. If the California Legislature were doing its job, it would have written these provisions into the law years ago.
o...m...g... :'( i'm sooo ashamed! i can't believe the way that people treat these animals! This is probably the most i've cried in a long time... i will definitely become a vegan and try to stop this!
This fucking pisses the shit outta me if i were there i'd beat the shit outta that fuckhole who took away that calf from its mom like what.....the SECOND it was BORN!!!!?? Fucking shit headed meat eaters they don't give a damn where their food comes from.they even don't give a shit if they've eaten shit as long as it tastes good.Oh my god! did you even notice how that cow went towards its calf like..please please let my child be with me for atleast a few minutes..WHen will you people ever learn
Because of the federal government's subsidies and people's blind support, they killed the small farmer off. The kind of farmer that cared about his animals and their well-being. My grandpa was a dairy farmer in Pennsylvania from 1930-1970, and he was the kind of farmer we need back. He never denied an animal quality veterinary care, and he risked his life to save stranded cows from floodwaters more than once. He almost died doing it. We need to shut down the factories and bring back the farmer.
I'm vegan and around 50% of people I know say something along the lines of 'I respect you and wish I could do it too but I like my meat too much.' I think this is a poor excuse. Are you saying that a few moments of 'Yum yum!' is worth a whole life of torture for another sentient being.
P.S. I've heard all the anti-vegan comments known to man so don't try and shock me with them. It just won't affect me.
[continued] Because churches use the money to pay staff and improve the building. Even if you are a devote follower of a certain religion, you should realize that your donations can make a difference if you give your money elsewhere. I don't mean to start some sort of religious argument, so I'll stop there. :)
If there were as many animal sanctuaries as there are churches, the auction houses would be full of people looking to rescue animals, not to kill them.
This video is nothing but good. And it's something I can share with everyone. I can't thank you enough for this, and I hope that everyone will make a donation. For as long as I can remember, I have been a vegetarian and from childhood I wanted to own a small sanctuary of my own. Whether or not that's possible, I wish more young girls would dream of one day becoming a hero for animals, and not the next star. And I wish the Christians on here would give 10% tithe to this, rather than to church.
I recently became a vegan so I can help stop animal abuse. We can survive and thrive without eating meat, causing unnecessary suffering. Thanks for the great work.
All animals big or small have the right to live, no matter who or what they are. The goddess created this earth that we could all live in harmoney with one another, we are not all powerful. But we have to live in respect to all things great and small. My brother never understands why i cry.. Can feel the pain and suffering of the animals, one day he to will understand.
kwulf-I am always hugely embarrassed by evident Christians who use the whole God gave us meat argument. I am a practicing Christian who is appalled by factory farming and have made the personal choice to eat a vegetarian diet. God gave man dominion over animals...isn't that a call to care and provide for as well as utilize? People have free will, and I believe that God is heartbroken over the choices people have made concerning the world's animals.

well, for one thing, god put animals on this earth so we can survive. mainly, animals are trated badly in factory farms because the production of meat has to go fast. think about how many people love their meat. do u giys think that we can ever stop this.... NO!!! its not like the workers like treating animals like that, its cause they have to for a pay check. yeah its brutial but its the way life is. GET USED TO IT.
kwulf14, your god is your opinion - it is not a fact. I do not believe in a god that would give animals intelligence and the ability to suffer and feel pain if their only purpose was to be food for humans. This would be a very cruel god.
It is true that the huge demand for meat results in mistreatment, but with every person that decides to stop eating meat - the demand grows less and less. You can make that choice right now if you truly wanted to. After all, it really is a simple choice.
The suffering is hideous. It's a shame that so many end their miserable lives in pain and terror so someone with a hankering for a pork chop can go to the supermarket to find it wrapped up in plastic.
Good work Farm Sanctuary. Obviously everyone needs to be educated and start questioning what they put on their plates.
this video made me cry...well im only thirteen but i wanted to do something so i went and donated $20...i realy hope something happens and that my donation helps out
Ok, I'm all for animal rights, but I would just like to make a point that I don't think anyone made. I'm a Christian, I believe what the Bible tells me. The Bible plainly states that man has devine right over the animals for nourishment if they so desire. It's in black and white. Now, like I said, up to the point that the animal is to be consumed, it should be treated with respect. But it is not morally wrong to eat an animal. If you were starving what would you do? Your life for an animal's?
Kevin, I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as it suggests in Exodus 21:7. How much can I get for her?
What I am pointing out is that you are rationalizing based on the same book that rationalizes slavery and stoning people. The bottom line: most of us do no NEED meat. It is a choice. Your god must be a cruel god to give animals brains and nervous systems if their only purpose is to be food.
this will be my final comment on this video. for the record, i'm a girl. i love animals and hate to see them mistreated. This doesn't mean i'm going to talk down to people who raise animals because that doesn't make them cruel. I'm sorry if my comments were offensive, yet i seek to make people informed of the whole story. Also, i have no problem with people who are vegetarian or oppose the mistreatment of animals because i do to. I didn't choose to live on a farm.... my parents did.
daedreamer: I was speaking about the meat industry in general. No, with the newborn calves they are taken from their mothers within 24 hours, dragged and thrown around because they are too weak (or just left to die on the farm or at the auction), fed a low iron diet to keep the flesh "tender and light" which gives them constant runs. And veal crates won't be phased out for years. There is NO EXCUSE FOR THIS SICKENING PRACTICE AND YOU DAMN WELL KNOW IT. Only a heartless moneygrubber would do it
This savage profits from the horrific suffering of others, and therefore, his opinions are negated. After all, he does what he does to innocent animals, why would anyone expect 'it' to tell the truth.
daedreamer20 - you are heartless and cruel. Animals are not there for YOU to tether and torture. They exist for their own reasons, not so you can keep them in lifelong servitude for an unhealthy food source.

well we actually run a business that involves picking up young bull calves that dairymen can't use and we sell them to people who want to raise veal calves. Dairymen can't use bull calves because they only want female calves. We don't drag calves away from their mothers and never will. A calf needs a day to get the cholostrom from their mothers wihich contains antibodies and other good things for the calf which most dairymen make sure the calf gets, because they can't sell it. i'm done arguing.
daedreamer: ONE DAY? And then you sell them to veal farmers? WTF is wrong with you? There is absolutely no excuse for any of this. Only a callous, cruel, greedy person would be involved in such barbarity or eat the products produced by this sickening industry. Additionally, it is making us all sick because of the antibiotics needed to keep them alive, the growth hormones, the reconstituted dead animals they are fed. WHAT about any of that is humane, necessary or logical?????????????
Thank you for this wonderful video and please keep doing this work. You are right in that some people don't know where and how our meat, eggs and dairy come from. I only discovered this 3 weeks ago and instantly became vegan. I'm actually shocked to know that a lot of people do know and still continue to eat meat and even justify it. Anyway, I've made my choice now and am ecstatic about this. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

i live on a farm and we raise veal calves just like the one that is tied up by a chain. that doesn't mean we neglect or mistreat our animals. Close monitoring helps us better treat sickness in our animals and prevent it from spreading to the whole group of calves. To all the vegetarians, i'm not against you, but some people probably don't know the whole story behind how humanely animals are raised on most farms. There are exceptions, but they are outnumbered by the majority.
Daedreamer, you must be dreaming. I grew up immersed in agriculture, especially dairies and beef lots in northern CA. The opening scene of this video is something I've witnessed a million times. Any large scale operation is liable to commit such cruelty. I'm an expecting mother and watching that cow follow so closely after her calf being drug away was absolutely overwhelming to me. We had horses and even at the "appropriate time" for weaning, dams become obviously distraught at separation.

Look in the mirror and smile. Nice canine teeth, right? We've been eating meat for millions of years. Granted, being cruel to animals (I have several) is disgusting. It's unfortunate that your video only exploited rogue slaughterhouses. Most meat / dairy / egg facilities keep their animals fat, dumb, and happy. Have to go, the grill is fired up...
The thing I love about rationalizations like this (aside from thinking they're the 1st to point out this genius detective work) is how bombastic they are - as if they are somehow entitled to the very lives of other animals. I could disprove the canine teeth argument (silver-back gorillas have 9-inch canines & are strict herbivores), but you would move on to the next rationalization like 'tradition' or how unintelligent animals are & therefore deserve no mercy. Whats follows? Personal Attacks.
You assume that this documentation is only of 'rouge' slaughterhouses, when quite the contrary, this treatment is routine. Why else would the very few, high-risk, undercover scenarios where people record this footage so easily prove effective. Look at the Hallmark recall case, the pending legislation like Proposition 2, & the Farm Animal Protection Act in California. All signs point to fact that animal agriculture is ecologically devastating, cruel, and most horribly: unnecessary.
The truth is, this evidence (unless rationalized) would mean we would have to change our habits, and as we have seen in every history book, habits die hard - so we rationalize because change is terrifying -
Simply put, it is a choice for many of us to make. We can choose to not participate in a behavior that causes suffering. It is quite simple, and quite amazing the lengths some will go to justify terrible things... with defiant pride, no less (re: your grill comment).
this video brought a tear 2 my eye, I'm vegetarian, and it's so frustrating because wish that the government would step in and do away with factory farms, but that's not going to happen unless a majority of the people push this issue, and it's important for the animals, ourselves, and the environment.
Many people don't realize that they don't have to have meat/fish with everything. Veges are the main ingredient by volume anyway, it's just such a small extra step to skip meat + the satisfaction that nobody's life was unpleasantly terminated for the pleasure. Give yourself a break from growth hormones and mercury. Fried tofu with french fries - yum (all essential aminoacids like in meat). There is a plethora of food, esp. in Asian cuisine, without any animal bits in it that tastes plain yum.
Ahhh thank you, Farm Sanctuary. I *deeply* appreciate the work you are doing and look forward to supporting you - as best as a college student can, that is :)
Calling each other names isn't going to fix anything. If this turkey character wants to open his mind, and think for himself instead of feeding off of his parents or society, then that would be great. Yelling at one another will not help this situation at all. So "powerturkey", open your mind a little, and pretend that you havn't been brainwashed by your parents or the television your whole life. Then maybe you will come around. if not, it's too bad you will only be a conforming follower.
powerturkey: you need to be a little more open minded. Some of you vegans are getting too angry with this character "powerturkey". If you responded in a way that he could understand, he might think about changing his ways. The way you are responding to him though, only makes him want to eat meat more. He is closed minded. He was raised a meat eater, and his parents branded it in his mind that meat is for human consumption. Which hey, to an extent it is, but not if it's done this way.. TBC...
Well I guess there must be many closed minded peoplo in this world! So if I eat meat that means I don't think for myself? I eat veggies! Great side dishes for chicken or a pork roast. Using your logic Ican say Vegans don't know what they're missing by abstaining from meat. Yes I was raised a meat eater. I don't feel that makes me closed minded! I have always encouraged people to eat what they like! Yet all the nasty flack I get come from VEGANS Hmmmmmmm
I have done reserch on factory farms!Gruesome places. They can be modified however. Now I'm an ignoramus because I ike meat. I tried"Fakin Bacon" and Boca Burgers...they were terrible. I do have to thank you, you have solidifed my views on Vegans.

You should check your language and how you respond to people!! A turkey does have the same needs weather its wild or farm bred. SO WHAT!! IT is still food for humans!! You want to eat carrots and tofu fine,no problem. Don't tread on my right to eat meat and it's many variants! Folks lke you are convinceing me that VEGANS are nothing more than ARROGANT SELF CENTERED CULT FOLLOWERS!!!
thank you for posting this. anyone who is compassionate cannot support animal slaughter. and factory farms are torture. i am vegan and i look forward to the day when animals are not bred for slaughter.

Thats right pigs and cows and sheep are raised to satisfy the taste of most humans!! So whats wrong with that!! All way fallback on the old"What if this was you argument" Nothing wrong with eating food animal products!
Where does one begin to challenge the mind of someone so selfish and ignorant? Watch the documentary "Earthlings" on google video and see the senseless cruelty going on. It doesn't have to be this way and instead of just defending your right to eat meat learn about what really goes into it.
To address your argument, what's wrong with that is these animals have lives, needs, and interests of their own, apart from anything humans would want from them. When animal agriculture is one of the top polluters, and animal products are the top reasons for the most common human health issues, its just crazy to keep supporting this. And that's not even mentioning the cruelty aspect. To inflict pain for no other reason that to satisfy a desire is just cruel.
Basically what you're saying is that when people label something, like "food animal" for example - that label bypasses & justifies & rationalizes any terrible thing? An animal is not born with a label. We put it there...
This is what CRITICAL THINKING is for; to challenge assumptions with evidence - like the fact that animals can feel pain and fear.
It's easy to rely on those labels because it means you don't have to change. An animal's life is as important to it as yours is to you.
If the scenes of animal cruelty were shown on TV,along with meat and milk ads, maybe some things would change and there could be at least increased humane treatment of animals.
1 question:all the animal suffering we just saw, is it only in factories like fkn KFC or is it ok to eat meat from the grocery store were animals are rase in conditions of the end of the vid?
the ones shown at the end aren't getting eaten. They are being rescued and brought to a happy place where they can live til they are old and die peacefully, like every animal should have the right to do. The ones in the grocery store were not raised in a farm sanctuary.

Interesting idea about history. Slaves arent eatin for sustance! This vedio shows the most egregeious clips to get peaplo upset at slaughter and then PRESTO! Makeing love to chicken and turkeys and pigs!! Ican't believe my eyes! How about some rats and other rodents on the farm!! They are sentient being too! Perhaps we can send a few thousand!!
Just for one second, allow yourself to seriously consider the interests of an animal as an individual. If that animal had a choice, it would certainly choose to avoid pain & suffering. We do not give animals that choice, nor do we recognize their cries as valid expressions of opposition.
Simply put, eating animals is just not necessary for most of us to survive. Compound that fact with how horrible it must be for them, and what is the most logical step? To make choices to not cause suffering.
Your first sentence is a broad generalization and assumption. Many humans do not have meat as part of their diet. Are you saying that people who have a plant-based diet are not human?
Once again, you are avoiding the point (and i bet you will continue to avoid responding to it):
Animal products are not necessary for most people to thrive. Therefore, we have a choice. Your choice is no more 'natural' than my choice to avoid causing unnecessary suffering.
1. It's what we're built to do. Given, not ALL societies eat meat, and that's how it is because of dogmatic reasoning or what have you.
2. No one said you didn't have a choice, you seem to imply that I don't believe so. If you don't want to eat meat because of some personal ethical reason, that is your choice. Just as it is my choice to eat meat because it's part of my diet, and a good part at that. At least we both agree factory farming sucks ;P
re 1: That is an opinion. In fact, there is a lot of evidence that points in the completely opposite direction. Clearly you haven't done much research on this, aside from making personally justifying claims.
re 2: your equation leaves out the critical perspective: that of the animal. I wish it were just and you and me and our difference of opinion. Unfortunately, there is a 3rd perspective you choose to invalidate. Therefore, this is a social justice issue, not a personal choice issue.
re1. Uh no, our species has been eating meat since the day it came into being. We are a species that evolved through glacial periods, and we hunted for meat, which was and still is a good dietary food.
re2: Social justice? Social Justice is generally reserved for a member of the social species. And, this opinion could go to plants, as they seem to have ways to communicate with other plants. Should plants have social justice? Must suck being ripped out of the ground like that.
Again, we have the ability to choose avoiding causing harm. You are avoiding owning that responsibility, People also been raping and murdering each other for thousands of years - does that mean we should?
"Social justice, sometimes called civil justice, refers to the concept of a society in which justice is achieved in every aspect of society." There was a point when some groups of people were considered sub-human. Animals are sentient beings who are involved in our society in many aspects.
Why people think of their taste pleasure only ???
Veg. food is even cheaper than meat.

Whenever people say "we mustn't be sentimental", you can take it they are about to do something cruel. And if they add, "we must be realistic", they mean they are going to make money out of it.

people these animals are there for a reason, we are the dominant species of this earth so we should take advantage of these oportunities. you may think its cruel but think what it would be like with out meat. is sad in someways but it will never change my way of thinking.
beere911 2 years ago
A world without meat... Fewer people would suffer the diseases consumption of it is strongly linked to; less money would be spent on healthcare; more food would be available; fewer environments would be cut down to create land as less land would be wasted (and destroyed by erosion of topsoil); chefs would get far more creative with food; there would be less suffering... ah i'm sure the list goes on. What were you taking about?
bridgm 2 years ago
Actually, your "facts" aren't true. Less food would be available as grazing land is not suitable for crops. Erosion happens because of farming...crops. If you wanna fight something fight processesed foods. Your superior Utopia world is silly and dogmatic, as well.
DarkMuu666 2 years ago
Ah, but we would have more food purely because we wouldn't be feeding all the grains to the intensively bred and farmed meat and dairy animals. Besides, I'm pretty sure a lot of the land we now use as grazing lands would be suitable for crops. But whatever, I can't be fruitcaked getting you sources...
bridgm 2 years ago
I'm sorry, but we make plenty of food as it is. The issue is money and getting it where it should be. And it's grazing land because it's suitable for that, because of bad soil types, drainage, terrain and the like. A lot of animals that we use for food can break down cellulose in plant matter, which we cannot. so, best to use that land towards that. And you know what part of the grain plant is used most in conventional farming, right? The part we can't eat!
DarkMuu666 2 years ago
We are supposedly the dominant species only by way of intellect, this intellect is what differentiates us from any 'top of the food chain' crap. Our intellect means we can reason and I believe it gives us a responsibility to refrain from such unethical acts. Consumption of meat is an antiquated method of survival that just aint necessary no more. We can and thus should use our heads and compassion to see beyond such ridiculous practices as the consumption of meat in modern society.
bridgm 2 years ago 2
Uh, sorry, nature doesn't work that way. We have a big brain because of meat, the protein, fat and chemical makeup is very good for humans. I understand your feelings on compassion, but this is the way of life, and life is built up on death.
DarkMuu666 2 years ago
I Do understand ur point of view,,,
but the main argument is:
Can't we provide a better life to all of those animals?
It's not a "in the end" question, it's a "During their lifes" question..
Ofc they would be killed eventually, but at least they felt something diferent from "total fear" -.-

Actually, yeah, I never disagreed with that. I disagree with Veganism, not better conditions.
Happy animals means Happy meat ;P
DarkMuu666 2 years ago
there is no such thing as "happy meat". that's equivalent to happy rape. the two don't go together. these animals WANT to live and do NOT want to live in fear and pain. wake up! as long as you consume animal flesh, you are condoning this cruelty.
cbheld 2 years ago
No, it's not equivalent to rape.

Not good for animals = not good for people .

lucasdoc7 2 years ago
compassion is not exclusive.
JoshuaOshua 2 years ago
BULLSHIT.
TLcavvy 2 years ago
"If all the grain currently fed to livestock in the United States were consumed directly by people, the number of people who could be fed would be nearly 800 million," David Pimentel, professor of ecology in Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, reported at the July 24-26 meeting of the Canadian Society of Animal Science in Montreal. Or, if those grains were exported, it would boost the U.S. trade balance by $80 billion a year, Pimentel estimated."
Cornell University
JoshuaOshua 2 years ago
How do you plan to grow this grain if we arent grazing the land with cattle? DO you know how much diesel fuel (pollution) it takes to cover farm land? Land in Americas western ranges cannot be farmed without MASSIVE irrigation. Even then, little is possible due to soil type and lack of rainfall.
So this 80billion you talk of is foolish, because that amount of crop could never be grown.
TLcavvy 2 years ago
its already being grown... and being fed to livestock.
JoshuaOshua 2 years ago
No, fucking moron, whats being grown to feed animals is GRASS. NATIVE prairie grass.
Most beef in the USA comes from "feeder cattle" feeder cattle come from momma cows or "cows". "cows" graze on grass for up to 7 months of the year, usually with the calf beside her until 5-6months. The land this native grass grows on is generally NOT FARMABLE.
I never accused them of making anything up, but they better pull their heads out of their asses because anyone who knows cattle knows the truth.
TLcavvy 2 years ago
Incase you havent figure it out yet, I'm an American farmer and beef producer. Don't sit there and tell ME what it takes to feed a cow. People using these youtube vids for their education of the beef industry are fucktards. All your theories are so laughable most people probably dont take you serious.
TLcavvy 2 years ago
and then, just to further prove you wrong...
After cattle are weaned they are usually fed a ration generally consisting of
1) GRASS HAY
2) ETHANOL biproducts
3) corn screenings or other mixed non(human) edible grains.
Beef cattle are fed grass hay all their lives, supplemented by products that usually arent used for human consumption.
Its that easy.
TLcavvy 2 years ago
The United Nations released a report in 2006 called Livestock's Long Shadow. I suggest you read it so you can avoid making statements like the ones above.
It's not just about beef. Every year industrial animal factories in the U.S. feed 157 million metric tons of legumes, cereal and vegetable protein to livestock, resulting in 28 million metric tons of animal protein for human consumption. Nutritious food that could feed humans instead is fed to animals in a very inefficient use of resources.
JoshuaOshua 2 years ago
I will check that out.
Ok, so its not just about the beef industry.. but what % of those numbers is in regards of the beef industry?
Do you know how much ethanol biproducts are fed? Whats the problem with that? We grow non-edible corn to fuel our vehicles, and feed our cattle which in turn feeds humans.
TLcavvy 2 years ago

Other ratios range from 13:1 for turkey meat and 14:1 for milk protein to 17:1 for pork and 26:1 for eggs.)"

tomaskas, if it were only about you and me, then having a mutual respect for our differences makes total sense! Unfortunately, you exclude the perspective of the animals. LARAMONExALFNOWx 2 years ago
DarkMuu666 2 years ago
No meat is NOT a natural part of the human diet--we are conditioned/indoctrinated into believing that before we are even able to walk or talk.
The truth is we originally lived off the land and ate plant-based foods, at which time the diseases we die from today were unheard of.
Lisamarie1968 2 years ago 2
exactly. there is no reason to kill an animal for food when there are countless other options. it is senseless murder. we don't NEED to eat other animals, and in fact, we shouldn't. it is about as natural and healthy as filtering water through a sewer and then drinking it.
you realize killing deer and elk so you can feed off their corpses is saying "my hunger is worth more than your LIFE"? that is a horrible way to treat others.
to continue eating meat is selfish, irresponsible, and dumb.

EnglandBeat 3 years ago 3

Thank you, Josh, for posting.

well, for one thing, god put animals on this earth so we can survive. mainly, animals are trated badly in factory farms because the production of meat has to go fast. think about how many people love their meat. do u giys think that we can ever stop this.... NO!!! its not like the workers like treating animals like that, its cause they have to for a pay check. yeah its brutial but its the way life is. GET USED TO IT.
kwulf14 3 years ago
kwulf14, your god is your opinion - it is not a fact.

I didn't choose to live on a farm.... my parents did.

very powerful video about a diabolical business. shame on humanity. thank god for people like farm sanctuary!
mishka1305 3 years ago 3
daedreamer: I was speaking about the meat industry in general. Only a heartless moneygrubber would do it

well we actually run a business that involves picking up young bull calves that dairymen can't use and we sell them to people who want to raise veal calves. Dairymen can't use bull calves because they only want female calves. We don't drag calves away from their mothers and never will. A calf needs a day to get the cholostrom from their mothers wihich contains antibodies and other good things for the calf which most dairymen make sure the calf gets, because they can't sell it. i'm done arguing.
daedreamer20 3 years ago
daedreamer: ONE DAY?

There are exceptions, but they are outnumbered by the majority.
daedreamer20 3 years ago

NAU097 3 years ago
The thing I love about rationalizations like this (aside from thinking they're the 1st to point out this genius detective work) is how bombastic they are - as if they are somehow entitled to the very lives of other animals. I could disprove the canine teeth argument (silver-back gorillas have 9-inch canines & are strict herbivores), but you would move on to the next rationalization like 'tradition' or how unintelligent animals are & therefore deserve no mercy. Whats follows? Personal Attacks.
JoshuaOshua 3 years ago
You assume that this documentation is only of 'rouge' slaughterhouses, when quite the contrary, this treatment is routine. Why else would the very few, high-risk, undercover scenarios where people record this footage so easily prove effective. Look at the Hallmark recall case, the pending legislation like Proposition 2, & the Farm Animal Protection Act in California. All signs point to fact that animal agriculture is ecologically devastating, cruel, and most horribly: unnecessary.
JoshuaOshua 3 years ago
The truth is, this evidence (unless rationalized) would mean we would have to change our habits, and as we have seen in every history book, habits die hard - so we rationalize because change is terrifying -
Simply put, it is a choice for many of us to make. We can choose to not participate in a behavior that causes suffering. It is quite simple, and quite amazing the lengths some will go to justify terrible things... with defiant pride, no less (re: your grill comment).

this video brought a tear 2 my eye, I'm vegetarian, and it's so frustrating because wish that the government would step in and do away with factory farms, but that's not going to happen unless a majority of the people push this issue, and it's important for the animals, ourselves, and the environment.
trishthedish33 3 years ago 2
Many people don't realize that they don't have to have meat/fish with everything. Veges are the main ingredient by volume anyway, it's just such a small extra step to skip meat + the satisfaction that nobody's life was unpleasantly terminated for the pleasure. Give yourself a break from growth hormones and mercury. Fried tofu with french fries - yum (all essential aminoacids like in meat). There is a plethora of food, esp. in Asian cuisine, without any animal bits in it that tastes plain yum.

Then maybe you will come around. if not, it's too bad you will only be a conforming follower.
deadphishy 3 years ago
powerturkey: you need to be a little more open minded. TBC...
deadphishy 3 years ago
Well I guess there must be many closed minded peoplo in this world! So if I eat meat that means I don't think for myself? I eat veggies! Great side dishes for chicken or a pork roast. Using your logic Ican say Vegans don't know what they're missing by abstaining from meat. Yes I was raised a meat eater. I don't feel that makes me closed minded! I have always encouraged people to eat what they like! Yet all the nasty flack I get come from VEGANS Hmmmmmmm

powerturkey1 3 years ago
Where does one begin to challenge the mind of someone so selfish and ignorant? Watch the documentary "Earthlings" on google video and see the senseless cruelty going on. It doesn't have to be this way and instead of just defending your right to eat meat learn about what really goes into it.
Debrevol 3 years ago
To address your argument, what's wrong with that is these animals have lives, needs, and interests of their own, apart from anything humans would want from them. When animal agriculture is one of the top polluters, and animal products are the top reasons for the most common human health issues, its just crazy to keep supporting this. And that's not even mentioning the cruelty aspect. To inflict pain for no other reason that to satisfy a desire is just cruel.
ganymeder 3 years ago 3
Basically what you're saying is that when people label something, like "food animal" for example - that label bypasses & justifies & rationalizes any terrible thing? An animal is not born with a label. We put it there...
This is what CRITICAL THINKING is for; to challenge assumptions with evidence - like the fact that animals can feel pain and fear.
It's easy to rely on those labels because it means you don't have to change. An animal's life is as important to it as yours is to you.
JoshuaBoshua 3 years ago 3
If the scenes of animal cruelty were shown on TV,along with meat and milk ads, maybe some things would change and there could be at least increased humane treatment of animals.

1 question:all the animal suffering we just saw, is it only in factories like fkn KFC or is it ok to eat meat from the grocery store were animals are rase in conditions of the end of the vid?

the ones shown at the end aren't getting eaten. They are being rescued and brought to a happy place where they can live til they are old and die peacefully, like every animal should have the right to do. The ones in the grocery store were not raised in a farm sanctuary.

JoshuaOshua 3 years ago
Joshua, does a Tiger contemplate it's prey's interest? I understand you are an idealist, but reality sings to a different tune : /
DarkMuu666 2 years ago
DarkMuu666, are you a tiger? And are you not part of this 'reality' you speak of?
The simple fact is that we can choose other food options that don't require confining and torturing animals. There isn't much more to it than that.
JoshuaOshua 2 years ago
I'm a human. And as a human, meat is part of my diet.
If I haven't clarified yet, I am against factory farming. It's disgusting on quite a few levels.
DarkMuu666 2 years ago
Your first sentence is a broad generalization and assumption. Many humans do not have meat as part of their diet. Are you saying that people who have a plant-based diet are not human?
Once again, you are avoiding the point (and i bet you will continue to avoid responding to it):
Animal products are not necessary for most people to thrive. Therefore, we have a choice. Your choice is no more 'natural' than my choice to avoid causing unnecessary suffering.
JoshuaOshua 2 years ago
DarkMuu666 2 years ago
re 1: That is an opinion.
JoshuaOshua 2 years ago
DarkMuu666 2 years ago
Again, we have the ability to choose avoiding causing harm. You are avoiding owning that responsibility, People also been raping and murdering each other for thousands of years - does that mean we should?
"Social justice, sometimes called civil justice, refers to the concept of a society in which justice is achieved in every aspect of society." There was a point when some groups of people were considered sub-human. Animals are sentient beings who are involved in our society in many aspects.
