he doesn't sound like a kurt knockoff, we're all coming from a new modern vocabulary and Kurt is kind of the fountain head for it. Its jut like in the 40's when every musician was influenced by parker.
Great playing man. I'm curious; are you using a tri grip on the pick(thumb index + middle)? One not of constructive criticism; start practicing your hybrid picking.
I believe Life is comparison. I do, however, think we can learn to compare artists without limiting their playing or belittling their efforts! Commenting while still giving respect to the artist's indispensable individuality! The only people I can't stand are non-musician music critics! :)
I very rarely view youtube users own guitarvideos, simply because there's so much shit on this website, I virtually always end up mad and disapointed.
This however is the first homemade guitarvideo that impressed me. Your playing is fluid, confident and innovative. Keep up the good work, you have potential!
Check out Tom Quayle, Cesar Huesca, and Gustavo Guerra for some guitar videos you won't be disappointed in. If you only like fusion just check out Tom.
oh wow, this is great playing. i saw this vid like a year ago when u first posted it. its just clicked to me who you are. i can tell by your picking technique and the give aways on your account. nice tone nice style nice chops! keep it up mate!
Great man. I can hear the Rosenwinkel influence big time in your playing. You have a loose and relaxed feel for time I hear a lot of guitarists sticking to 8th too much but you can break from it nicely.
Man, don't you know Mesa Boogie amps are only for metal... yeah, as if! I hate it when people push equipment into categories. Excellent tone and great playing! I have a Mark IV and LOVE it for everything from country, Jazz, Blues, to Metal. Keep up the good work!!!!
well maybe he played nice for a 19 year-old but... well you decide. Go to mimmocafiero 's page and listen to summertime mp3. It's from 1989, so Kurt is exactly 19. He doesn't sound like a promising new genious, which he later proved to be.
I disagree.I just listened to the tune you're talking about...Well,for me-besides too obvious Metheny influence-it was a great solo,very original and well built.Maybe there weren't too many "hip" lines,but who needs them?Especially when you're 19 :-)
@FusionistAS200 I ran across these recording of Kurt when he was a student, one of the tracks is a 9 minute inner urge. haha. Strangely enough, he sounds alot like he does now, just with less chops.
too obvious metheny influence? seriously? come on man. first of all, it's impossible to escape sounding a little bit like metheny, because he has influenced almost every jazz guitarist since him. second, he doesn't really sound that much like metheny. also, I thought he had some pretty hip lines.
@griffinsemple I just wanted to listen to this Kurt's version of Summertime ones again and couldn't find it: it seems that it's not on mimmocafiero's page any more...Where did you find it?
Great playing. I'm impressed. Very intelligent playing, good direction. I can hear Kurt's influences. Btw I love Kurt's music as well. Btw2: Kurt sucked at 19 :)
Just amazing!! What a player!! You really rocks man!! all my respects. I have an Ibanez AS93 and I hope play like this some day, greetings from Peru...
