karen carpenter could do no wrong whilst singing, she is the only person i've ever heard on youtube who sounds amazing recorded or live, she is my absolutely favorite singer of all time!!!
The guiter solo should have replicated the recording note for note. Not because innovation can't be worthwhile, but because the recorded version was ideal for this song.
@TheDokaDoka Agreed. Not to diss Cubby or anything, but his solo at the end there is really repetitive and not very exciting, not to mention no dynamics other than "SMACK." Karen would've done way better!
Thank you for all of the nice comments that many of you have left for me on my Channel. Please feel free to subscribe as this channel is dedicated to Karen.
If someone else had produced Karen rather that the insiped and sugary Richard then we would have seen an even better side of her. Richard totally over produced everything and smothered Karen's natural talents. Plus maybe in different company she would have stood a better chance !
@paisleygerry I read your comment & let me tell you first hand that you must of heard, or read somewhere what your commenting on. Richard Loved Karen more than anything in the world & is the reason you get to hear the over produced (as you call it) Tell you a little secret, Richard WANTED to be the guy behind the scences. I wish Karen was here to tell you & the world all of these things people say Richard did is not true, I know this for a fact. She had her freedom, but she Loved her group.
of all the female vocalists i have ever heard my favorite is Karen Carpenter. She had the ability to make someone believe that she was in the room singing directly to that person. I also believe that bluesy soulful aspect of her voice is woefully under appreciated. I mean what is blues music but the ability to convey the sadness that you are feeling at that moment? Even We've only just begun cannot hide the true sadness Karen felt in her soul.
the voice hides her terrible problems, i guess that's why there will always be a hint of sadness whever she sings, be it a happy songs or a sentimental numbers. Rest in Peace, Karen. We miss you.
Karen is lovely, but why did they ever let Ken and Mitzi Welch turn their show into this kitschy mess? I wish Cubby would shut up, go home, and let The Divine Ms. K. take her rightful place behind the kit.
@improvguru well the drums was where she wanted to be. Wasn't her fault she had a voice heaven sent on top of the drum talent which ended up taken priority.. A one off woman in this world who will never been forgotten and she died before i was old enough to know/remember her alive. I am a fan and always will be. RIP KC.
Yes she truly had one of the great and most unique voices in music history!! They were a great group.....I have their greatest hits cd and I must say every song on there is awsome.....they even did an old Beatles song "Ticket to Ride" and they did a great job with it!! Too bad her life was cut short!
I only just found out from reading these comments, and then doing my research, that Tony Peluso died. ;( He was so talented and such a sweetie. He spoke so fondly of Richard and Karen and a part of me had the hunch that he loved KC.... At least now Tony and Karen can make great music together in heaven. I love you Karen and I love you Tony! RIP xx
The album "A Song For You" was one of the greatest albums of the rock era.Yes,the Carpenters WERE rock, especially their first four albums, which beyond the hits they were known for, were in the vein of rock/jazz."Goodbye To Love" is the first real power ballad in rock music. For that reason alone,The Carpenters should be in the rock and roll hall of fame. It's criminal that they have yet to be seriously concidered.
Astonishing and terribly sad. Thanks so much Karen and now, sadly, Tony. Richard, you are still one of the best producers/arrangers ever. The music lives on.
@FlyingMondongo So far beyond any other female pop vocalist that has ever been that they are simply not worthy of being compared to her. Proof: watch?v=RJwRafRP9g0&feature=related

@cosg9531 Would have been nice, but this is a `Vegas` type show where everything is delivered note for note, night after night.

@awnok Exactly. So why not note-for-note as originally recorded? Would have sounded much better.

@JeffersonDinedAlone Would have been better if was the same without the fade at the end.

The Carpenters were hot! OK, very soft-sell hot, but this is 1970s, our world was a little friendlier back then.
Watch this video if you don't believe me, Karen's always on the money, Richard with the arrangements, and live they all cook.
Guitar and drummer are way hot too. (I really love those acrylic drums; almost bought a set of those in 1973).
